I'm Protestant, but yes, Catholics are Christians. Just because we have some theological disagreements doesn't nullify that we're brothers in Christ.

Generally people do not genuinely believe Catholics are non-Christian, it's rhetorical. But the reason why Protestants rightly view it with disgust (besides the single political church aspect) is because the saints and Virgin Mary are basically all little demigods. Anytime I've had a conversation with someone from a non-Christian culture, comparing Protestantism and Catholicism, they very readily acknowledge. Put whatever bullshit excuse you want on it, but those saints that you pray to, make images of, visit on pilgrimages, keep their bodies around so you can kiss to cure your ailments are functionally equivalent to a pagan's fetish or totem. Add on a bunch of superstitious nonsense to it and other garbage like babbling over beads. It is one of a few religions that, the more I study, the more contempt I have for it, though there are a few aspects I like or don't exactly like but find very interesting (like monasteries/monastic orders).

The Mormons, who every Catholic I've ever known has had a hate on for, are ironically less pagan while being open polytheists, as at least they only have three gods they actually worship instead of 50 billion and counting.

St. John disagrees with you.
good for him. what does GOD himself say? oh right...no other gods before Him. jesus/god never crowns mary queen of anything, and mary herself says she is a servant.

the worship of mary, and the stories catholcis tell about her are taken from gnostic (satanic) books which are in turn taken from cults. they literally just took some pagan goddess, plugged mary in, and made that the story
