Pew Research did a 2017 study where 7% of adult respondents indicated that they had at least once used a gun to defend themselves, their family or their property, with 17% of current gun owners saying they had.

Thats tens of millions of Americans, who have stopped crimes with firearms, and using a conservative assumption that you’re only going to have one such encounter in your life, that’s pretty well consistent with the 100,000 to 2.5 million range from other studies, maybe topping out at 500,000 to 600,000 annually just based on Pew’s self-reported incidents.

That’s a lot of lived saved and rapists thwarted.

More importantly, that makes the odds uncomfortably high that in your lifetime you’ll be in a situation where you need to defend yourself with a gun. And that’s assuming the relative peace and safety of our current society is sustained.

I did some quick math using data from another study and came up with roughly a 1 in 20 chance that you’ll be a victim of a home invasion while you or a family member is at home, over the course of your life. Again, that’s at our current rates of home invasion while the victim is at home, which unsurprisingly is rock bottom compared to the rest of the western world.

In short, buy a fucking gun. Don’t let anyone judge your for it, and quit voting for people who are okay with the proportional increase in victimization just so they can feel good about themselves.
I also consider it very important to remind people that Warren V. District of Columbia enshrined that the police are under no legal obligation to provide you with protection. Not only is the response time of your local police department going to be significantly slower than your own response time, but even when they arrive, they're under no legal obligation to put themselves in harms way to defend your life.

You might luck out and get a cop who's willing to take a bullet to save you, but you also might get a fat dude who just wants to pull down a paycheck with the minimum of risk involved. It's not exactly a great gamble.

Not really new info, but ENHANCED video here:

Not really conclusive still imo. The dreadlocks and hoodie (and the deafening media silence) make me think black, but the face flash at 21 seconds looks white. Maybe a Notim Portant inspired crime?

One thing not discussed?

Dude in white pushes the woman in black down and shields her body with his.

Texans are good people. No wonder the left is doing their best to fuck that state up.

Any info on the shooter yet?
Sam Hyde jokes aside, one of the few info released was the fact that the shooter was wearing fake beard and sunglasses.

Also one reason this is not widely reported is the fact that this event statistically, does not count as a "mass shooting". Most organizations like the FBI only counts it as one if there are four or more victims, perpetrator not included.

Also, we don't even know if it was an attempted mass shooting, and we may never know, as the shooter is dead.

It's possible it was just attempted murder, but they panicked after being confronted and started shooting.

We may have to wait for the police to go through all their stuff, and look for notes/plans.

It pisses me off that the shooters always get the spotlight and the infamy from these stupid greedy """News""" distributors, but the people who deserve fame and recognition like this guy, the guy dropped the shooter, and the countless others who were prepared to shoot.

I wonder how many less copycat killers there would be if instead of showing the killers off 24/7, we showed the heroes who put an end to it off.

I doubt he wants recognition or spotlight he probably feels terrible having killed someone (in church no less) even if it was justified.

e: welp I stand corrected, looks like he has political aspirations :shit-eating:

He's friends with Count Cumia but that's about it. I've never seen him lie or be disingenuous. All he does is try to bring attention to the many cases of chimp on human violence that gets ignored by the media that occur everyday.

So did he leave his little gay manifesto anywhere? Because whatever vision of being some martyr who lives in a society got demolished by based old dude, a week away from retirement.

Hero ex-FBI agent who stopped Texas church shooting says he 'had to take out' gunman because 'evil exists'

The ex-FBI agent who jumped into action when a gunman opened fire on worshipers during a church service in Texas said Monday he was placed in a position he didn't want to be in, but had to react because "evil exists."

Two men were killed when the gunman opened fire at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement on Sunday morning as more than 240 parishioners were inside. Within seconds, he was shot to death by two congregants who fired back.

Jack Wilson, a Hood County resident running for commissioner for Precinct 3 who is the head of the church's security team, shared some details on his campaign's Facebook page as he gave thanks to "all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today."

TEXAS CHURCH SHOOTING GUNMAN HAD 'SOMETHING NOT RIGHT' ABOUT HIM, WITNESS SAYS

"The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church," he wrote. "I’m thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church."

At a news conference Sunday night, White Settlement Police Department Chief J.P. Bevering told reporters the gunman – who has yet to be identified – had sat down in a pew before getting up, taking out a shotgun and firing at a parishioner, who was killed.

A livestream of the church service shows the gunman getting up from a pew and talking to someone at the back of the church before pulling out a gun and opening fire. Parishioners can then be heard screaming and seen ducking under pews or running as papers fly to the floor.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told reporters on Sunday the church's team responded "quickly," and within six seconds, the shooting was over.

"Two of the parishioners who were volunteers of the security force drew their weapons and took out the killer immediately, saving untold number of lives," Patrick said.

On his Facebook page, Wilson lists his personal history as a small business owner for 30 years and who served in negotiating proposals and contracts for a major defense company. He said he also served as a Hood County Reserve Deputy Sheriff from 1980 to 1986. It was not immediately clear when he served as an FBI agent, but he said that he had taken the oath to support and defend the Constitution "multiple times" beginning in 1965, when he joined the National Guard, a reserve deputy for the Hood County Sheriff's Department, and "multiple times" with the Department of Defense Security Clearances beginning in 1965 through 1995.

"I swore to the oath then and still live by the oath today," he wrote.

In the Facebook post on her personal history, he added: "I continue to work with Federal, State and local levels of law enforcement."

Wilson, who has previously posted on Facebook does "totally "stand" by President Trump, said his mission of running for the county office is to "be accessible to serve the public with honesty and integrity, to help provide essential services through an efficient and effective use of the County’s resources and to be accountable to the citizens of Precinct 3 and all citizens of Hood County."

The commissioner candidate says his wife of 51 years has raised his family in Granbury/Hood County for the last 42 years, and are the proud parents of three daughters and the "blessed grandparents" of 10, and 1 great-grandchild.

"I feel I have the knowledge and passion to move this growing county into a place all residents can be proud to call home," he wrote.

While authorities have also not yet identified those killed in the shooting, Tiffany Wallace told Dallas TV station KXAS that her father, Anton "Tony" Wallace, was one of the victims in the attack. She said her father was a deacon at the church and had just passed out communion when the gunman approached him.

"I ran toward my dad and the last thing I remember is him asking for oxygen and I was just holding him, telling him I loved him and that he was going to make it," Wallace said. Wallace said her father was rushed to a hospital but he did not survive.

The second parishioner who died in the shooting was identified to CBS News as Richard White.

"I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed," Wilson wrote early Monday. "Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding."

Gov. Greg Abbott asked the state to pray for the victims, their loved ones and the community of White Settlement, located about 8 miles west of Fort Worth.

“Places of worship are meant to be sacred, and I am grateful for the church members who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life,” Abbott said in a tweeted statement.

Texas man arrested in Linden on gun charge

LINDEN - A 39-year-old Texas man was arrested after police found him in possession of a .12 gauge shotgun and rounds while in the area of the Phillips 66 refinery.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to Lower Road near the city public works garage for a report of a suspicious person on a bicycle.

A resident reported a suspicious man was asking about photographing the oil tank field at the Phillips 66 refinery.

Police found the man, identified as Keith Thomas Kinnunen, of River Oaks, Texas, near Memorial Park on Lower Road. Kinnunen told police he was traveling from Texas but is homeless and takes photos of interesting sites.

Police found Kinnunen had a contempt of court warrant in Oklahoma for felony aggravated assault. While checking his property, police also found a Mossberg .12 gauge shotgun and rounds wrapped in plastic. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Kinnunen is being housed at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth on $20,000 bail with a court date scheduled for next week.
