DB is largely a comedy, especially at first, so it's slow because the plot is just an excuse to have wacky adventures. It's good for what it is, but I honestly think it only becomes great with DBZ. You can skip DB, lots of people did, but the events just won't be as impactful, you can still follow along easily.

Z still has pacing issues thanks to copious amounts of filler and dragging out scenes, so if you're dead set on good pacing there's Dragon Ball Z Kai, a cut that solves those issues and would probably be a good place to start for most people (even though I still prefer the original).

I have been getting into tons of different hobbies lately, doing leather sheaths and handles for knives. I am taking a small break from that for a few weeks since I dove headfirst into it and didn't really stop for a month or two. I play guitar pretty seriously and have since I was a kid. One of the very few things I am really good at.

On the super autistic side I also like building little mini arcade cabinets, portable sticks. I am working on a clear one right now that is gonna look cool. I like fighting games, NeoGeo games like Fatal Fury 1, Special, Real Bout 2, big old clunky Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown 2 and V Special, as well as the old Street Fighters like Super Turbo, Third Strike, Alpha 2 and 3, Rival Schools - my biggest hobby right now is playing all the old arcade games I used to love as a kid. I am doing Battletoads tonight. I love how violent the arcade version was.

My eventual dream would be to rebuild an original Primal Rage cabinet since the emulated ROM is all jacked up with glitches, missing moves, and messed up blood effects that sometimes look a sickly shade of neon yellowish and the only way to play the true complete version is on dedicated hardware. Not even the Midway Arcade Treasures release is free of the glitches.

Right at the beginning of Z works just fine. In fact, I think Kai adds a part in the beginning to catch people up if they haven't seen DB, IIRC.
