This. Chris and Bob both hated the hoard, but they couldn't really do anything about it, lest Barb chimp out on them. Of course, cleaning up Barb's immense hoard after she dies would be a huge pain in the ass, so I don't know if Chris would get that far in cleaning it up. Maybe after the honeymoon phase after Barb's death he might gradually start getting rid of stuff. Like, he wouldn't rent a dumpster or anything, so he'd probably just throw stuff out in mcdonald's dumpster.

He might be able to call an auction firm and they will come in and take the things worth selling, depends on what the hoard looks like. If it's just a pile they're probably not too happy digging through it. Or, if he doesn't care about the money, he could call some thrift store that comes and take basically everything but straight up trash. He might end up with just some garbage bags worth of trash that he need to clean up himself.

Huh? His family doesn't want to talk to him any more than they want to see barb. And Cole isn't a douche just because he doesn't want his anchor of a brother in his life. I don't blame him one bit.
I don't know.

As long as Barb is alive and not incapacitated, I agree with you. Cole has no responsibility.

When Barb dies, Cole becomes Chris' closest living relative. And Chris is a guy with significant issues who has never taken care of himself. I think that gives Cole some degree of responsibility to make sure Chris is ok. It could be as simple as making sure someone like Rocky is keeping track of him. And if he tries to help a little but Chris resists or demands more, he can walk away. But if he continued to shun Chris after Barb's death, and Chris ends up having real difficulties with things, I would say that he should have stepped up to the plate a little more.

While I agree that the Weston clan's beef is with Barb rather than Chris, the issue here is that she's got him under her thumb. It's pretty clear that Barb's done some regrettable things, shall we say, but to Chris she's a living saint. If family did offer to help, I could see conflict arising.
In fairness to Chris, I don't think anyone would really like to hear people talking about their mothers like that, but he doesn't really seem to have moved beyond the "my mommy is perfect" stage.

As much as we say shit his pants, go to a home, or go insane, I'd like to wish for the best. Maybe if he goes to a home he might find support and get his ass in gear. I work at a nursing home and some residents are there because they have no where to go or can't afford a place of their own, and with his tug boat he might be able to. Most usually move out within a year or so after finding help. Knowing Chris that may not be ideal, but I'd rather that than the streets or asylum cause god knows where you'll be sent.

He's not going to an asylum, he's not crazy just a bit retarded. He's not gonna end up on the street either, at least not until long in the future. Hopefully he can get some kind of good man or guardian that will take care of his bills so he has some money for property taxes and unforeseen expenses. From what's left over Chris will get an allowance that he can spend on Legos or McDonalds as he sees fit. Hopefully he can stay in the house or failing that they will help him get an apartment.

Chris has three half-siblings. Why should Cole be on the hook more than Bob's other children?

And Chris is a guy with significant issues who has never taken care of himself. I think that gives Cole some degree of responsibility to make sure Chris is ok.

Eh, I don't see it. If anything, Bob's son should do the heavy lifting* seeing as he lives nearby and has met Chris more than once or twice.

*I actually don't think anyone has the responsibility to be the guardian of a mentally ill half-sibling they've rarely met.

This is a good point. Cole bailed pretty early, while Bob's children are at least still in the area (I think).

Fair enough point about his other siblings. But in my opinion, one or more of the three is obliged to do something. Doesn't mean they have to let him live with them or anything. Just make sure he doesn't end up on the street. Could be just a question of putting him on the radar of the right social worker or organization.

Also, if Chris can manage to putter along half decently on his own, which I think he can, they don't have to do anything. But if he ends up homeless, and they didn't even try to intervene a little, I think they deserve some criticism. For what it's worth, I would say the same thing about Rocky, Anna, and anyone else who has some sort of relationship with Chris.

Let's make some fairly likely assumptions:

-Barb dies in a way that is obvious that she is dead.
--Chris isn't to blame or culpable for her death.
--Barb dies slowly enough that she can make last requests, etc.

The obvious person to turn to is Rocky Shoemaker. Rocky will definitely ensure there is a funeral service, although Barb probably left no real funds for her own funeral. It's actually not impossible that Barb dies with no way to pay for her own departure, and so a Funeral Barge accompanies the Tugboat as you and I pay for Barb's final rest.

Barb's funeral is a very sad event. The Hollywood answer--that Barb's family, her former lovers and various old workmates of hers appear in a gathering that gives Chris some contacts and a way to make a future--isn't going to happen. It's actually fairly possible that the Troll delegation is the largest and most meaningful at the funeral; alternatively, if the CWCki decides not to do anything here, it might be a terribly empty scene of saying goodbye to his mother.

Losing a parent is rough.
Losing your own acquaintance in life is extreme.
No one should be betting on Chris getting through this easily. If there were no other factors, this would be at least as difficult as losing Bob. But Chris' life is more fundamentally disrupted than just the death of Bob Chandler.

The next question is money. 14 Branchland is owned by Barb; the mortgage needs to be paid, but the equity in the house may be Barb's most expensive obligation. Chris could wind up homeless if the house is seized. When Barb Dies, all of the games that Barb played to keep ahead of an ocean of red ink die with her, and Chris' possessions might be very limited. He has Son-Chu; He has a Tugboat, he doesn't necessarily have much of what he had even after the fire.

The Mortgage company isn't likely to evict Chris immediately and he'll need to make a decision of where to go or what to do. This is the first question that is likely to make a massive shift in Christory. Where does he go? Urban life might suit Chris for its general ease in getting food, fun, and social services, but the rent is likely higher. Rural life would give Chris the isolation he seems to enjoy but would definitely shrink his Moobs as he's forced to travel further.

Even CWC is going to be forced into social interaction. It's NOT POSSIBLE that he's going to be utterly isolated. With no Barb, his desire to avoid confrontation is all that stands between him and disaster. If he tries Legal Saga III, he's staying behind bars no matter how badly he confuses the situation with rapists in dark alleyways. I can't rule out that Chris is more likely to go Blue Arms Stupid over the dumbest ideas and get into trouble.

What Chris isn't likely to find, and this is the hard reality, is anyone to accept him or support him. He reaps what he sows but the harvest is a very bitter one. He will remain single; he will eventually alienate the LGBT community that has forgiven his animosity. In the long run, I think it's around a 3-4 year cycle before Chris commits another Felony. Chris repeatedly commits crimes, and on the whole, he's been lucky. We should not forget that:

1) Chris flouts bans. This is Trespassing, and Chris has probably committed this a dozen times.

2) Chris generally commits multiple criminal acts before he gets busted. 10/28/11 follows a similar incident in June 2010 that played out in nearly the same way. Blue Arms Banditry followed a criminal nuisance campaign that involved glitter bombing SEGA and hiding Sonic Boom merchandise. Chris' treatment of women may well qualify as harassment--unwanted touching or otherwise making them feel uncomfortable.

3. Chris is, in spite of all his stupidity, still believes he's godbear's gift to the world. He doesn't even need to be self-consistent or coherent, but he's always right and eventually this will lead to problems.

4. Chris is profoundly lazy. He will not improve himself unless there's something obviously in it for himself--and what happens in this regard when he learns there's no China in Tomgirlworld?

I think Chris eventually makes mainstream news for a particularly stupid act. It may be a Darwin Award, it may be the Felony that gets him 5+ Years, but he's not going to live a normal existence.

Eh, there's not really much evidence for this. Just taking the cwcki as accurate a bit too seriously.

Barb's not going anywhere.

He'll shit himself, do nothing.

Then, he'll arise from the ashes, begging us for money to help him overcome the extreme stress of his mother dying. The money will, instead of going towards bills as he says, go towards more Legos.

Oh, and he'll start to wear her clothes, and gain weight because he'll eat the food she ate before.

The autism is strong in this thread. I'm with Marvin on this - Chris(tine) is a lot more capable than he gets credit for. Sure, Barb's death would be hard, but not such that it would make him Norman Bates. Cut him a bit of slack.

(:anna:)

With or without Barb, Chris' finances are already fucked. He's taken out loans he can't repay, he's up to his neck in credit card debt and he keeps blowing all his money on shit he doesn't need. I don't know if the money he gets from panhandling over the internet will sustain him. I don't doubt his capacity to live on his own without :snorlax: bringing him down, but he still has some serious fiscal issues to own up to.
