I heard about the incident, but I had no idea how "special" it was. I've known a lot of neurotic people to fuss and blow things out of proportion, but this was just crazy. Emergency services had to filter Chris-Chan's calls for a self-contained fire. Can you imagine if some major appliance broke down after Barb's death "911, I need money because my washer is covered in poopies and will not work, this is an emergency"
To be fair to Chris, he had just lost his house to a fire, and carelessness was a contributing factor. The lesson "be really careful with fire" is a positive one. Even if he takes it too far sometimes.
It's kind of like his driving. People laugh at him for being a really careful driver, but that is probably what you want out of him. It's good he is nervous about fire. It's good he calls 911 when he perceives an emergency. Since we can't trust him to puzzle out the severity of a situation, both Chris and those around him are better off if he errs on the side of caution and asking for help.
