Honestly a show ending after 3 seasons because the creators wanted it to is so refreshing that it comes across as shocking.
We have shows that go on forever like The Simpsons that they eventually become boring, I am a little sad they ended it a part of me wished it went for 100 episodes but if Zach and Michael only want 3 seasons then its probably for the better.

Best part is that there aren't any loose ends to tie up because the show never really had an overarching story to begin with.

sometimes the youtube front page can suggest you gems:
a simple animated series about mosquito folk and their battle against an eldritch being called the giant (human). The tone is serious and "dark" which makes the premise enjoyable.
It currently has 4 parts out.
I do find that the blood sucking mosquitos, who are usually female, sounding and looking like males funny.

I would wish for Bluey to end at season 3 but we all know Disney won't let that happen.

Relevant to this thread - schools are closing down their animation departments, citing economic reasons and uncertainty in how the medium can be adapted into other fields such as A.I. and robotics.

Yeah, it looks like it is soon to be over...
For one thing, this actually sucks to hear. Like holy shit, the well has been poisoned so potently animation schools are now becoming a bygone era. Legit, I actually don't know if Don Bluth University will still be a thing once he dies. I have a friend who's been blessed to go through that currently and he's been enjoying it even though it's also been kicking his ass here and there. If CalArts goes, it's over.

But on the other hand, you get what you fucking deserve. These people have chosen to burn it all to the ground and now are having surprised Pikachu faces at the results, and they're going to blame AI for it instead of themselves. No remorse. Enjoy your Japanese overlords who have also started to wake up to this shit. *spits*

My brother's kids watch Bluey and at the moment there's no woke Bullshit in it.
Agreed. Bluey is a double edged sword it's an earnest show about life that doesn't pull punches and has addressed everything from parenting to even death, akin to the shows of yesteryear like Arthur (before they sold out) and Rodgers neighborhood and wasnt made to be wokeshit. But it's got the baggage of attracting gooners and furries who only watch to...well you know.

Anyways that aside does anyone know the name of this show that had an episode where the main character some girl got am earing of a flea from a a singer she liked. Only to spend the rest of the episode fighting with her mother getting her ear pierced to wear it?

I swear this was a real show I'm not making up in my head but there's only bits and pieces of it left in my memory. Like that kids WB rip off of recess called detention, or that kablam ripoff with the two kids as hosts voiced by Richard Steven horowitz and the voice of Angelica pickles.

I'm debating if that show or Hysteria was worse. They're both pretty much AIDS.
Hard to believe hysteria was from the people behind animaniacs and tiny toons. Clearly the later half of the 90s hadn't been as kind to them. Given one of their last outputs was pinky Elmyra and the brain.

Remember to everyone saying anime is beating western animation (or was recently) this isn't a new thing. Kids in the later. Half of the decade were losing interest in western cartoons for the likes of pokemon, digimon, and yugioh so bad they had to often pair the two together on the blocks.

They lost favor due to Pokémon, as you mentioned. WB wanted to start culling their animation department since anime was the way bigger hit. Being fair, it is pretty easy to see why this was happening. Even past, anime look cool, Animaniacs and Tiny Toons were heavily drenched in dated references for adults that kids would never get. They were shows clearly aimed at older demographics that grew up with the toons they were copying. It wasn’t just kids not liking comedies, I think plenty of Cartoon Cartoons and NickToons would put that to rest.

There is a difference between Pokémon beating them out, and the current rolling over and dying that the west is in now. Even around that time, shows like Static Shock were leveling pretty well with their Japanese competition on Kids WB. Hell, PowerPuff Girls was a staple of Toonami, so good even the Japanese would try and get their hands on it. And to say nothing of the Sponge.

What really hindered the West in taking on anime was its censorship. Fights were too pussied out compared to the spectacles, with blood, you would see in DBZ. The closest the West ever got to that kind of violence was arguably early 2000s DC between Justice League and Teen Titans, both pretty big series for their time. Ben 10 would also get huge, though more for its Pokémon level merchandising potential.

Comedies were what the West did best, and primarily CN and Nickelodeon if we are being honest. Those were the two networks with the loosest rule sets that allowed for raunchier humor that appealed across the spectrum. When you look at CN’s most viewed content, Scooby Doo, Ben 10, Star Wars, Total Drama and Adventure Time were able to achieve DBZ ratings.

Nowadays, there is nothing like the above. The West has fully given up on action besides shittily animated adult cape slop like Invincible, and the comedies don’t have the raunch anymore to make them popular, and yes, even the adult ones are so much lesser than a South Park or Family Guy.

Rewatched Samurai Jack a few years ago, and it's got some brutal violence for a kid's show. It's amazing what "They're just robots" could do for you at that time

PowerPuff Girls is also surprisingly brutal for a comedy. Might actually be the most violent show CN let air, explaining its mass appeal.

A big issue was that the west wasn’t good at following through with impact and making hits feel shattering. They would always cut away or depict minimal damage as per censors. It really limited the cool factor of these series, which sucks as the action cartoons were better written on average than the anime they were up against.

Fun fact: On January 1 2026 the absolutely awesome Fleischer Bros. cartoon "Swing You Sinners!" entered the public domain.

If you've never seen it before, you should.

Imagine trying to release something this dark and disturbing in >current year

I'll be honest, I actually think that an iPad stand-in as the villain is pretty clever. Like yeah, for a lot of households, it's replacing toys entirely. Why play with an action figure when you can just watch action scenes on YouTube or some shit? Plenty of games to play and bright colors to distract kids, they don't need toys at all.
My issue with Toy Story is that these don’t need to be movies. Do a nice little 10 to 30 minute short flim every couple of years if the franchise really needs to still exist. I remember they were doing this for a bit after the third movie and at the time people were rolling their eyes at those.

But obviously, it just comes down to money. It’s harder to merchandise a short flim than it is a feature length movie.
