There is literally no argument one could use to justify keeping these cretins on your payroll when an LLM can do the job in 5 minutes.
Funny enough CyGames, the company that just got fucked by the exact thing we're discussing, has started to make moves towards this end.

Just use LLMs, they can do the job better, faster, and for pennies.

All you need is a good-enough workflow and enough context when prompting to give the AI some idea of what is going on.

A trained chimp could churn out accurate translations free of politics by the hundreds on a daily basis.
Spent a few days translating a manga for a friend last week, and honestly I used grok for most of the translation. It wasn't as prudish as chatgpt is (and had way more uses until it needed to reset,) it understood slang and dialects better than google translate (which was very word-to-word and wonky,) and when there were handwritten words/sounds it was able to read those too. I think that's probably the best use of one of those AI things.

Can we see this translation?

Any experience with DeepL? I don't translate manga but it's high time I think about things like this. I can't trust these people to respect my work. They'll try to editorialize, to use my work to propagandize their political opinions.

It was porn, but it wasn't mine I swear I was translating it for a friend I was actually translating it for a guy I'm involved with as a valentines present.

None, I've never done any serious translation work. I'm sure if I started doing this consistently, learning Japanese and using more advanced AI than the free version of grok would be at the top of my priorities.

It's been hard to be consistent with my Japanese but ChatGPT has been fine for me, though I need to experiment with different models. 5.2, for instance, tends to jump to conclusions and put words in your mouth. 4.0 was surprisingly better with nuance.

I like ChatGPT and use that primarily. I used Grok during translation because it had more uses (Chat would be like "you've ran out of messages until 3:05 PM") and was more cool with hentai as a concept. ChatGPT kind of bristled because it doesn't want to talk about sex too much, but Grok was like "oh yeah, and also did you know in NTR hentais that [absolute horrible filth that has nothing to do with what I'm doing]"

“You don’t have to tell me twice, but during the Stone Age…”

Did you have holes drilled in your head recently?
Wtf was that for? He just said "a manga" I didn't know what it was!

See....that's..............that's odd.
Even if you're gay that's an odd valentines present.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX has the same issue with its own dub. While it's less self-referential, it tends to give one-shot characters weird voices, even during crucial episodes.

For context, there's one episode where Ryo/Zane takes part in an underground duel with a shock collar in place to hurt him whenever he takes damage. This, coupled with a string of losses beforehand, pushes him past his breaking point, a pivotal moment for his character.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=VRwRE_OLTw4While the dub is mostly the same with Zane, his opponent (who's supposed to be the card game equivalent to an underground fighter) talks and acts like a child.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=X2vSdEHbL3cAnd somehow, this doesn't even crack the top five weirdest GX dub voices.
It's crazy that to this very day Yu-Gi-Oh is still receiving 4kids levels of censorship and changes in the states. Japanese food can't be mentioned, almost any kind of violence is removed, and so on. The latest anime ended last March and it still gets this kind of shit. It's so archaic, something from a bygone era, but it's still lingering.

Is it?
Last year, January 2025, he finds this hentai zine that, based on the premise/main character, reminds him of me/us. He wants to read it, but can't, because nobody's scanned it illegally and the only place selling it at the time was a site that required a Japanese address. It's whatever, "aw I'm touched you thought of me," we move on. This year he's my valentine, so I look back in our chats to get an idea of what to give him, and I rediscover the cover of that hentai. I went digging online and found a website that would sell it without an address AND gave me a coupon that covered all but 50 US cents of the cost. Then it turns out there's no file download, it only lets me read it through some proprietary viewer, AND it's only in Japanese. So I screenshotted every page, brought them into Photoshop, and translated the whole thing into English. I was just gonna lazily slap on English over top of everything, but then it's like "I should put in some effort and remove the kanji underneath," so I spent a few days painting out sfx and replacing it with English, carefully making sure to emulate the original artist's visual style.
It wasn't just "Happy Valentine's Day, here's some porn," it was "I remembered this thing you showed interest in and went through a bunch of unnecessary effort to surprise you with a copy that I personally translated just for you." The gift is the thoughtfulness and effort, not just "hurr durr japanese boobies."

and for what it's worth, while I'm TMI-ing or whatever, I'm a True And Honest female. We're a M/F couple, no gays involved here lol.

Any experience with DeepL
I was happy with their product but not with their customer service. Used it to translate some old handwritten cyrillic letters (which famously look like 80% 'wuwuwuwwwww' on the page.)

I cancelled a subscription with them and they just kept billing. I no longer had a login to open their dispute center to bitch at them because I had cancelled. Eventually was able to get contact info and some money refunded. So it's one of those 'easy to pay, hell to cancel' businesses.

If that ever happens again immediately contact your bank and report fraud, call a stop payment. Pisses everyone off but saves your money and it makes it the bank's problem instead of yours.

The bank did fuck all. I considered cancelling the card to resolve it, but the card had a clause that 'recurring subscriptions will continue to be billed to your account even if you stop/cancel the credit card.' They only recently reintroduced a dispute mechanism, something that use to be bog standard.

I wish that faux-card privacy service that puts a layer between you and the merchant was available in my country - but it's American only.

What a bunch of kikes.

New live-action Scooby Doo now stars McKenna Grace in a prequel series about how the gang met. For those not in the know, she was Daphne in Scoob! (2020) and was in FNAF2.

Grace will star as a young Daphne Blake in the show, which will delve into how the Mystery Inc. gang first met each other.

Netflix picked up the show for eight episodes in March 2025. The official logline for the show describes it as a modern reimagining of the popular cartoon show.

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the logline reads. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
