chaos terminator/slann mark points hike + AoC removal is harsh but you can just kit out a possesed brick with the rune and get comparative results. Interested to see what happens.

Nah, Alpharius is super mega dead by Dorn's Collosal Chainblade.
Also I wouldn't say CIA since they are actually pretty consistent in the abilities and don't create threats to syphon money. More like super spys that play all sides to the point no one is really sure which side they are on (at least until HH, afterwards they are pretty much Chaos).
Yeah, and now Omegon is Alpharius.

As to how they operate, was it ever confirmed they went fully to Chaos, or are enough of them doing that original 5d chess game plan of destroying humanity to destroy Chaos, or did they get confused about what their actual gameplan was and are now fully corrupted, or...

I don't know who is Hydra Dominatusing who anymore!

Ultimately, they are akin Cypher. Nobody can tell for sure if Cypher and Alpha are loyal\tracherous in full swing, because

Cypher is Fallen, he's disgraced Dark Angel and is haunted by his battle brothers. And will be forever, no matter what his ultimate goal is (we all know it's to safe humanity in only Tzeench know what way, along with Constantine who, afaik, is still missing?)
Alphas are... I don't know. Some part of them are defiled by Chaos, others are still fighting in the name of Anaphema, but neither can agree on what actual side they picked really, are they are good boys or baddies.
Just compare them to Night Lords which want to save Imperium by killing the Rotting Corpse on The Golden Throne and reshape it in their own image.

I'd pick up Renegades: Harrowmaster to find out the state of the Legion in the 41st Millennium if I were you.

When did putting huge banners on everything fall out of fashion and why?

Banners are the coolest shit, modern warfare is gay because no one carries big cool banners into battle.
Yeah, but they're also giant fire magnets, which is why Krieg Ensigns (as in the guys assigned to carry the ensign into battle) have an even lower survival rate than your typical Kriegsman.

Naturally there's no shortage of volunteers, but since the ensign is a junior officer slot with survivors getting promoted to lieutenant only a select few get chosen for it.

I think it was Leupin that made the comparison that for every 1 custodes (or grey knight, I can't remember) there's 1,000 astartes, 10,000 sororitas, and 100,000 guardsmen. I also don't know if that accounts for the sisters of battle or the entire eclisiarchy. Either way, it seems about 10:1 or less sororitas to space marines.

Only true for GKs and Astartes. Definately not for IG.
GK is around 1000. Custodes 10.000, Astartes 1.000.000.

So for Custodes, there would need to be 10 million marines (way too high) and only 1 billion IG (way too low) all over the Imperium.

For every Grey Knight, there are 10 custodes, 1000 marines, unknown Sisters, and propably MILLIONS if not billions of guardsmen.

Any of you gents have updated your army lists to fit arks of omen. No mandatory troops is the biggest win for me.
Yes. Where once was a Necron warrior stood now stands a Skorpekh Destroyer.
