This is what happens when creators try to please fans at all. They just wanted to tell a story about war, aliens, and magic robot kitties and wound up with sperglords on BOTH sides out for their blood because they didn't get their yaoi ship. Lessons learned? One, don't write about romance because it's the leading cause of retarded fan wars. Two, being a true creator means giving the middle finger to all fanbases and telling YOUR goddamn story.

This person was among the people bullying Bex for telling the haters to stop being bitches, and harassing the TOY STORE over the ending. They should stop pretending that they give a shit about LGBT people and admit they're buttmad that they aren't the ones who decide who fucks who.

I also love how I keep seeing delusional fans that still insist Keith and Shiro were intended to be endgame. I highly doubt the VLD staff would've been able to pair up two charas that, strictly speaking, don't exactly belong to them. VLD!Shiro is bit more of a wild card because he isn't the original Shiro who was killed off early in GoLion, then became Sven in Voltron (thanks to the existence of Takashi's brother Ryou) and survived... to fall in love with a woman in the USA-mostly second season. But Keith probably still belongs more to Toei (who made GoLion) and WEP (who built Voltron from it and Dairugger XV) than to the VLD staff and Dreamworks, so I REALLY don't think they'd get away with it.

That's why, in the middle of the leaks meltdown, I spotted near immediately that Shiro wasn't marrying a Roy Focker look-a-like, amusing as the idea is: he's based on a character that belongs to OTHERS and they can't play as fast and loose with him. And in the end, Shiro married a guy who was created as a 100% original character for VLD - which was probably the best they could do, considering copyright and all.

... And yet these (wo)manchildren insist that the staff was TTLY CAPABLE to violate copyrights and pair up male charas that aren't fully theirs freely. IT'S FOR GAY RIGHTS!!! GAY RIGHTS ARE WORTH PUTTING YOUR WHOLE SERIES IN RISK!!! HDU NOT UNDERSTAAAAAAND!!!

(There are rumors that Shiro's late first love was at first intended to be his straight roomie and nothing else, and/or that Season 2 was supposed to feature an actual break-up scene between them rather than the one from Season 7 which can be seen as simply a broken friendship than a romantic split-up. I swear, these bigoted "activists" want minority characters to be the most whiny, cliché, self-centered shits who must always be mollycoddled and treated like helpless children. Shiro wasn't the most perfect chara but I loved how his lack of an arm wasn't the ONLY character trait he had, and how he got a more-or-less happy ending including a nice and hot husband despite all the crap he went through.

(I also love seeing that his "BUT SHIRO RETIRED FROM THE GARRISON AND THAT'S PROBLEMATIC" bullshit was apparently shot down by Shiro's own VA Josh Keaton, who iirc said that Shiro did NOT retire from the military and still works at the Atlas. LOL.)

And in the USA-made Voltron: DOTU seasons, Keith was strongly implied to have actually developed feelings for Allura. Who also had several guys not called Keith or Lotor vying for her attention: iirc Hunk at least thought she was pretty, Pidge had a little boy-like crush on her, and then there's Lance who ultimately got Promoted to Love Interest in VLD after being a bit of a Hopeless Suitor in both GL and DOTU. The basis for Allurance was already there.

I'm kind of confused by this person's stance, but the highlighted tweet is a really fascinating and probably true take on the matter. Now that Voltron is finally over and the dust has settled, I'm super curious to see what kind of projects the head writers take on next. Y'know the weird part about all of this is? I bet a lot of these harpies are fan fiction writers or some other "aspiring" writer, as Tumblr (and Twitter, but I see this all the time on Tumblr) is known for having a large part of its userbase be into fan fiction. So much so that there are blogs dedicated to giving writing tips and not just "don't be an asshole" tips, either, encouraging quality writing. And a common theme I see amongst fan fiction/RPG writers is how much they love torturing characters. They're super giddy about putting characters through all sorts of hell sometimes just for the drama of it, because these writers thrive on the tears and heartbreak of their readers. In some circles, it's considered a badge of honor, and you wear that knife-in-heart on your sleeve with pride.

It's possible that if you go on AO3 or another fan fic site and you look up Voltron, a lot of popular fics will either be akin to those stupid coffee shop AUs or an "epic" in which horrible dramatic shit happens to the characters with a touch of gaynst thrown in, and the readers eat it up.

Then again, I might still be stuck in the past of ten years ago where this was expected and outright praised, or it's still a hugely popular thing to do but they just don't want canon to be anything like that. If they want bad things happening to their pwecious gay boi, they'll do it themselves because they don't trust the creators to create the right drama and gaynst.
