Even people who expected him to move on with Pidge are kinda "ehhh, nope" to me. The fact that once Lance really fell in love with Allura he lost interest in flirting with or heart-eyeing at other ladies is very telling (he had no reaction to the very lovely Romelle and Krolia, for example).

I personally would've loved it, but I still remember people bashing the Hell out of Lyle... for not being Neil AND daring to point out how people should not expect him to be Neil just because they looked the same save for the missing eye and the hairstyle. And iirc, some GoLion fans back in the day also complained over Ryou's presence because he basically wasn't Takashi.

You’re giving Bex way too much credit here. She’s a step away from being a Lolcow herself. In fact, the only reason she tweeted “that is the real ending” is because she got upset that some fan replied to one of her tweets, clearly joking, (that was a reply to the Voltron fan podcast she was on) “no thanks, I prefer the real ending” and added someone’s alternate ending fanart. Proof

Bex loves drama and tends to create a lot of it.
Some of her greatest hits include:
- getting into an internet slapfight with young teens because some 13 year old said they wanted someone to slap her
- engaging with or spurring on the extreme side of the fandom on multiple occasions just for fun/to create drama, which in one unfortunate occasion led to an increase in the harassment of her co-worker (Josh Keaton)
- coming out as nonbinary and still calling herself a lesbian
- afterwards, posting a shirtless photo of herself on Instagram to see if they would remove it so she could make some kind of statement
- then getting an interview and proceeding to say that you don’t need dysphoria to be transgender

There’s definitely a lot of stuff I’m forgetting, but she’s always been one to create drama, so don’t give her much credit. I’m not sure if she’s quite lolcow material, but she’s damn close to it.

The idea of everyone dying gives me Cyborg 009 God's War vibes, lol. Everyone dies horribly, the world dies, possibly a scene of their ghosts or reincarnated selves chilling on the beach? (The beach scene would line up with them APPARENTLY wanting to the the show on a high note? Maybe when they said that they meant "sure, rocks fall, everyone dies, but look, they're happy in the afterlife!")

So they wanted a super grimdark show ("Castlevania changed the landscape" - Lauren Montgomery) while Dreamworks wanted a happier and adventurous kid's show and the result is this weird, vaguely unsatisfying ending to an all-over-the-place action cartoon. That explains a lot.

What I take from that interview is what I've thought for a while: Laquim are talented artists and "ideas people" but really, sorely need an Aaron/Liz Ehasz to give the writing some muscle and thematic consistency. That isn't to say they suck at writing (some of their ideas sound pretty good) but IMO, it's sort of telling when writers have to explain "what we were going for" as much as they did here.
