Nothing to be surprised about

It was prophesied

why does joel fuck off and stop streaming for 2+ weeks at a time?
Considering this started happening more regularly around the time pictures of him with semi-famous black metal vocalists & talk about labels popped up, my headcanon is that he's doing some fun local gigs considering he seems to put his artistic vision above streaming. If that's the case, good for him!

I think a couple of kiwis speculated he works in some kinda office or as IT? I dunno but in one stream he has mentioned having to go to a meeting or something and had to end early.

Joel's full time job is streaming and he definitely does not do gigs. I think I heard he's working on music lately but probably Scythelord stuff. The meeting he mentioned was for his taxes if memory serves.

I remember that he was wageslaving either in retail or warehose jobs, ending it somewhere around 2014-2015 when twitchbux started being lucrative enough. It's also speculated that picked up some sort of higher education at that time.

Joel works?

It's pretty unlikely. His "schedule" (or lack thereof) screams "full-time streamer."

This reply is answer enough, but I'd also like to point out that his dad was staying with him for a while this year due to him getting really sick around the time global lockdown started, and he was really inactive during that time, as well.

"Meeting" could mean anything; remember, this is post-Granddad Joel, so he's not just sharing shit willy-nilly anymore. He's been making a cognizant effort to keep the details of his personal life as vague as possible, so him saying he has a "meeting" could mean anything from "I'm gonna go hang out with friends" to "I'm being recruited by the Swedish government to become an ambassador to Japan." In any case, I definitely don't think he works another job, nor do I think he really needs to. I've seen on multiple occasions people give out hundreds of gift subs during his streams, and statistically speaking, it's incredibly unlikely to me that he's not making bank on Twitch due to his extremely high follower count.

I don't know where the confusion comes from, when Joel says he has a meeting he usually says "at the bank/with someone at the bank" shortly after. So it's best to assume it's just that.

Or he hangs out with Bacon & Anthro. (considering the BBQ videos on Twitter during summer)

You know, that's the same question I'm having. Joel used to have a bunch of videos until about mid 2018. Now he's doing only a few videos every week and any of the more interesting games he's done as a series do not get finished.
One of the biggest letdowns was when he just stopped Streaming Morrowind. I loved his Oblivion streams, and it's obvious that he can make something entertaining if he enjoys it (which he claims to). My only guess would be lack of viewership, because like I said, the guy made the Dwarf Fortress streams extremely enjoyable.

Did the Morrowind streams have low viewership?? I feel like his Elder Scrolls streams are some of his most popular ones - Oblivion in particular had a huge turnout, and if memory serves, I'm pretty sure they had to turn on slowmode for that one. So I feel like viewer turnout isn't Joel's primary deciding factor in whether or not he continues a game - I think often, the issue is either that he lost interest in the game/it was so shitty he refused to pick it up again (likely the case with Down Under Dan), or that there was some problem with the game itself that precluded him from continuing it.

Granted, I know the Morrowind streams weren't as big hits as Undertale or GTA San Andreas, but surely an Elder Scrolls title would draw enough numbers to justify him pressing on with it if sheer numbers was his only deciding factor.

I think Joel just hates doing the part of the main quest he is on and lost interest in streaming it. Wouldn't be too surprised if he just randomly started streaming it again one day. Personally I'd love to watch him stream Skyrim, it might be a worse game but it's goofier just like how Oblivion was. Not to mention Vinny's Skyrim stream was one of his best IMHO.

I think it's because all the art sucks.
It's always painful when he gets some "DRAWN BY TIMMY AGE 5" shit (except drawn by someone in their 30s) and has to grin and say "wow I love it" through his teeth. Then again that's not really a Joel exclusive experience.
