Removing it as a mechanic would be dumb. The vast disparities in technological advancement between groups of people was extremely important in this time period. I'll give Paradox the benefit of the doubt here, an article claimed they were going to remove deus vult from CK3, and it was there on release.
 
Paradox continues to stick its nose into eras that it claims to be ashamed and disgusted by.

Think I’ll stick with Anno 1800.

If I had to guess it's going to be like how authoritarian governments are in Hearts of Iron, in VickyII they'll present Communism as the ideal form of government/market management.
