Got one hub changed, can't get the other one off because of the axle. Which means we have to pull the knuckle off. Now I'm hoping the tie rods and arms don't dissolve into a pile a rust when we do it. Also, the new headlight assemblies arrived! I have terrible night vision, so upgrading the lights will make me feel a lot better about driving when it's dark.

idk if these are legal where you live, but an LED light bar is a worthwhile upgrade for country driving. Even the cheapest eBay ones are a big improvement over stock high beams.

They look just like the old ones but have an more standard modern plug. I'm trying to keep his classic lines. There was some very ghetto shit available in various places.

Figured I'd ask this here for the memes - I have a mercedes s430 2000, a impact censor for the air bags went bad so I replaced it. Problem is the air bag system is presumably completely disabled until you get the SRS error code reset. Regular scanners don't work on the airbag error code because mercedes, being the jews they are require a Super Special Scannerthat costs $10,000 to buy.

The dealership wanted $500 just to reset the code but when they took one look at my flinstone's era car they refused due to liability reasons. I tried the usual work arounds like disconnecting the battery and other random shit, only getting the Super Special Scannerwill apparently fix it.

Are there any alternatives or am I just super mega fucked?

I don't know about Mercedes, but with older BMWs and recession era Fords/Lincolns there is obscure software that you can just download and use with an adapter on your laptop to do the exact same gatekept things as their gay ass unique scan tool.
Probably worth doing some homework on it...

For Fords, it's Forscan, btw. Its a russian reverse engineering of the dealer software and u can get a free license by verifying ur email.

This thread makes me miss my 01 corolla so bad its not even funny. My Transmission shouldn't require regular software updates
EDIT: with that being said whats the best practice then for long term storage of say a ZH-9HP and are the gradual problems they develop in newer jeep models mechanical or software driven. Like can I just reset the transmission control module?

Took a bit of a break because of weather but I now have the interior almost entirely stripped. I just took the carpet and glove box out. Unfortunately I found more rat activity behind the glove box and under the front passenger carpet. I have decided I am going to replace all the insulation and the foam under the carpet. The insulation I already found giant rolls of it I can buy and cut to shape and I know some good double sided adhesive tape I will probably use to attach it. I'm probably going to roll out some sound deadening material and then a layer of insulation foam to replace the chewed up foam under the carpet.

The climate control is impressively fucked... Two air mix flaps are broken because Saab used a shitty bit of plastic to operate them and it breaks often, blower motor is not working at all, I don't think the heater core is working. I am told taking out and repairing the hvac box is actually the worst thing on the planet. But there is not a single part of this system that I can confirm is functioning normally except for the computer and I think the compressor might work??? So I have no clue what the to do. Theres no codes except for the mechanical flap failure and I don't get anything out of it at all and no sounds except for the clicking of the flaps failing to move.

Since diesel prices have skyrocketed in Europe I've taken the vegetable oil pill.

I know it's somewhat of a big meme on social media right now with people fucking their cars up in the process, but I've done some experiments on my car in the past and it ran well on used transformer oil.

I drive a 90s Volkswagen with a TDi engine, so it's still from an era where the engine would run on whatever flammable liquid you feed it, so it's been great so far. It takes a little longer to start up when cold, but other than that I've noticed no difference in performance. I do, however, still dilute it with diesel, with the oil making up no more than half of the contents of the tank as I don't want to risk it clogging up the fuel system on colder mornings.

I've put around 20 liters of oil into the tank so far and the thought of "fueling up at Lidl" still cracks me up. Might need to start looking into places that sell veggie oil in bigger containers though as emptying 1L bottles one after another into the tank gets boring quick.

You should centrifuge used oil whether that be WVO or motor oil to use it as fuel or you will cause problems long term.

Please tell me you're 100% sure that's not PCB contaminated oil.

Going to put a clutch slave in my car.
Looking at a LuK one, says FTE on the side of the part. Anyone know if those are any good? My other option is a Doorman or pure junk.

Oem if its still available, you can find new old stock through ebay sometimes.

Bad news: My cheap electric DD hardlocked itself to max 30% charge
Good news: all it needed was a software update, so literally a free fix at the shop after a week of just sitting idle for the shop to finally fuck with it.
Automotive sins of driving a fagmobile aside, for as simple as EVs COULD be, is there any front of any group who's actually making an effort to have unjewed EVs exist? The oldest of the modern EVs are turning 30 soon, are there any enthusiasts who don't shit themselves at the thought of HVDC?

High voltage does not scare me, it's the thousand+ pounds of toxic, unquenchable flaming death that scares me. Besides, my smartphone needs a replacement battery every five years (or less), but they want me to buy a car that's 50% lithium battery? No thanks. The environmental angle is just the icing on the cake. EV shills talk about the "dirty" oil industry but conveniently forget that lithium mining and battery fabrication is much worse for the environment, and the efficiency gains of electric are not as high as they would like due to inefficient power generation, transmission losses, and overburdening of outdated and underbuilt electrical grids. To top it all off electric vehicles are exempt from OBD-II requirements due to their not having an ICE, so many of them have no scan tool port and require the dealer to do even basic diagnostics. I hate EVs lol.

I hear you, allow me to justify my sin.
TCO/per mile is king in this case
Second factor is reliability in both a perceived and to a lesser degree real sense when spare time to troubleshoot gremlins is at a premium.

I would not feel so gay for having it if the proponents were not such annoying pompous faggots. The culture behind electric cars could be fun dorky hypermilers building boat tails on cars, and nerds eager to unlock the extra 10% of battery capacity engineers locked out for reliability. But alas the well has been poisoned.

Whatever happened to hybrid electric with agriculture fuel oil/E100?
