Someone tried to get me back into VTM play again a few months ago (I haven't played since the mid-late 90's). I read through the new rulebooks and was just, "yeah this really just sounds like Tumblr the rpg now, no thanks."

Where this game has went isn't really assuaging that opinion.
And to think looking back at some of the old clan sourcebooks you had templates for shit like skinheads, eco terrorists and militant blacks and they got away with it because there was a little thing called awareness. Awareness in the games world being a fucked up grimdark and also that it was all fiction.

Finally getting around to playing Bloodlines after mostly getting by on bits of playthroughs and hearing shit about the cabbie. Was it a mistake going with Malks as my first run? Some of the lines are close to unreadable, but the insanity of making a guy laugh off having a coworker get drained dry is funny as fuck. Who’s fun to go with besides them? Also, it’s really nice that the GoG version comes with the unofficial patch.

The story's pretty hard to follow if you go with Malkavian at first. I went with Toreador on my first run because I'm one of those people but it really doesn't matter what you go with first outside of a few dialogue differences, excluding Nosferatu and Malkavian of course.

Venture are my favorite namely because of their mind powers and how the male looks like the Chad meme before it was a meme, and the lady Ventrue is straight up Elvira. They've also got the best outfits (aside from the lady Malkavian's outrageous wardrobe).
Interviewed with Brian Mitsoda about Malkavian.

From the interview, they researched on people with mental illness from medical papers and other works of fiction. So this time, they won't portray Malkavian's insight as hilarious but more a darker and tragedy tone. Since insight is connected with network of voices, they are seen more as paranoia. I guess, Malkvaian player this time won't be as insane like the first game due to political correctness. Even from youtube video description, they say Malkavian are being looked down on by other clans.

Malkavian's appearance.

No heterochromia? Pity, I liked that detail about them in Bloodlines.

TL;DR - The devs are claiming that there's meanieheads that are being unconstructively critical, and this justifies a tempban on the first strike, and physical removal for a 2nd offense. The stated definition of "toxicity" is a big fat subjective fuckall, so I'm looking forward to some sperg getting banned for being a sperg, and not because they're legitimately trolling or "being toxic."

This is invariably the kind of shit seen at lolcow-filled studios like Riot, BioWare in recent times, and similar, and there's always hilarious tardcum that ends up being found, as a result. It's worth noting that Paradox is involved in the upcoming VtM: Bloodlines 2, which is based on the revamped iterations of the rules, which included lunacy like "Fascism in play" and "Character and Player Identity". That is grounds for optimism about the possibility of lols, right off the hop.

Am I optimistic to imagine some 2k Games/Betheseda/Riot tardcum and locow spergery, or nah?
If circumstances surrounding the game prior were covered in red flags, then this is an air raid siren levels of warning that something terrible is afoot.

Don't call the devs poo poo heads because calling them poo poo heads will make them sad and cause emotional damage on the level of deadlines and crunch :(.

Sorry, you type in full sentences, and that's inconceivable, so you need to

The verticality seems interesting and combat doesn't look awful, it might be more of a game than bloodlines but really doesn't interest me in any other sense. I hoped the gameplay would sell me on it but I'm still just as sceptical as I was before.
it gives me strong deus ex HR vibes of updated and sort of imitation/off brand. showing dialogue options is probably the most promising part

Not sure how I feel. It looks OK, but it's by a studio I never heard of. If its Q1 of 2020, its dangerously close to Cyberpunk 2077. It is a game you do not want to go head to head with. I pity them if it releases anywhere in March.

I just have a gut feeling the game is going to be hollow, linear and maybe 10 or so hours. I mean, we've heard about Cyberpunk since before the last Witcher 3 expansion and that was a long while ago. It feels like we just heard about this game and its releasing so soon for an FPS RPG.

so sad to read more about this game. I saw the trailer and the giant mommy milkers and thought it would be neat considering the first was good.
To avoid sounding like a parrot of the rest of this thread;
Where's my Aliens disguising in human society game? I want to be a grey that has to subtly kill a martian across the street because he's making the government start thinking something weird is afoot.
Late reply, I know, but you should check out Delta Green. Might be more your thing.

I'm still watching the whole Bloodlines thing with cautious optimism. The extended trailer looks interesting, a little alpha, but that's expected. I'll withhold any real judgement until I've seen some actual gameplay and had a better look at what the story is going to be like. No pre-orders from me, but I might still buy it.

The shitty gameplay is distracting.

The facial animations are lacking, Atrium girl couldn't even keep eye contact. I wish NPC's didn't just stand around waiting for you to talk to them, maybe have them sitting or leaning against a wall?
I don't like the Atrium song, music is forgettable except the old unused song.

But I want this game to make it (:_(

I had fun watching the new writers just plagiarize old ideas though. That shitty Anarch Tremere house was hilarious in that respect since it was just a woke House Goratrix with Daughters of Cacaphony added in.

As for the game, it depends on if it's a finished product or not, since Paradox's strategy seems to be DLC spam and I don't feel like dumping money into what should be a complete game.

Still, kudos on the rework of the Malkies, since it and players tend to just assume you have to do the Fish Malkie build.

A similar fate to what the original had faced, although possibly more deserved in this case.

Unrelated, but I'm still impressed with how well Bloodlines' facial animations have aged. I can still vividly remember Jeanette's little pout, the fat bartender's slight frown, LaCroix's odious and radiating levels of smug, etc.

The whole game is a masterful example of stylizing to combat technological and asset limitations. While the jank is bad, they have a loose enough grasp on realism to have fun with it and exaggerate features to fit the dreary and sleazy setting filled with a competent display of urban cynicism and grunge.
It's why I disagree with this game's artstyle, it doesn't seem to have anything unique going for it with what they've shown off. May as well be Bioshock.

Bloodlines was overall unique, and I'm a tiny bit ashamed of how clearly it resonates with me even now. Damned if I can remember almost every bit of music, the way the dark and rain play off each other. Even individual goddamn side NPCs like that nervous hooker outside the first hub's museum.

Ah, you wanker. I'm reinstalling.

I don't know lads, I want the game to be good (I think I've completed VTMB like 6 times minimum, love that game with all my heart), but pre-release footage that they show right now is making me lose all hope. Just look at this.

Even if you ignore the braindead squid that's playing the demo, all you see is stiff as fuck combat with no reaction or weight, characters that may as well be cardboard cutouts with how little they move and articulate (not to mention the facial animations that look worse than the first game because muh realistic artstyle, can't let our characters look a little bit exaggerated) with bland voice-acting, the general washed out look of the game that doesn't evoke any mood other than "eh, it's a city at night".
I see no charm, no character, no fun. I see nothing, least of all things I'd expect from VTMB. I want to be wrong and play a great game that just looked worse than it actually was, but boy am I not :optimistic:.
