If the Steam Machine drops at $700, I could buy 2 comfortably but we still don't know the price or release date. All I know is that I want one and if I'm scheduled to work that day, I should take the day off. My chances of snagging one are much higher if I'm on the desktop Steam app instead of buying one on mobile at work. I began working swing shifts a couple months ago so I know my schedule an entire year in advance. It won't be hard to plan around.

Also, I did snag a single controller 8 minutes into the sale going live.
I may skip the Steam Machine, mainly because I have no need for it. I have a gaming computer, a versatile laptop, a Steam Deck, and every room in my house that needs a computer already has one. I'm guessing that with its small size, it may be something you could lug around if you need a desktop computer that doesn't weight much, it looks much better than the Framework Desktop for (maybe) 1/3 of the price.

$100 for a controller, Jesus. Scalpers are scum of the Earth but I highly doubt Valve didn't foresee this, they're probably just happy to get these shipped out and paid for.
It's still retarded to try and get something day 1 (especially a $100 fucking controller, what is this Nintendo?), but I really do hope people are able to get this product for a fair price eventually.

I have a gaming computer as well...but there is something nice about having ALL my games to throw on this thing and hook it up to the main screen TV for my wife & kids to play with little to no hassle. Even get some stuff for my wife (basically anything SNES Zelda-like) during a Steam Sale along with any emulation I might want to run

Yes I could do it with other mini-pcs/old parts but with such low lag from the controller, easy setup, huge built in library, and considering how many games are gonna have Steam Cube specific profiles it will probably last for a long time just from ease of use.

Imma wait until people get them and have tried out the new controllers.
Normally I'd respect this, but I also expect steam controller is LITERALLY just a a steam deck but no screen. Its not identical, but also can't see these being THAT different especially in any significantly bad way.

I'm not necessarily shaming you for waiting, but also this is the last product I'd do this with

I expect all reviews to basically boil do "its steam deck but no screen", for steam deck users, and brand new users just mirror steam deck input praise and complaints across the board.

Which is why I want it. I love the controls and build minus the dpad on the Steam deck. Some night, I enjoy docking my deck to my tv. And some games I play, the trackpads are useful.

It's a reasonable price for what you get.
The hardware(new TMR sticks, accurate gyro, touch sensitive sticks, 4 motor hd rumble, programmable actions, touch pad revisions/enhancements learned from the deck, etc.) is remarkable on paper.
But so was the original. As flawed as it was.
As a person who has both the OG controllers and the deck, valve knows their shit and learned from all the experiments.

Sony has some cool features at $70 and it is the best of the current Gen builds, but they completely fucked up on the stupid center touchpad(which has both reaction and gesture issues), the trigger feedback is only used on games that support it, the gyro is virtually unused, and sony still uses shit sticks that drift and click-activate other inputs when they get used.

The "pro" versions of xbox and sony cost over 150 dollars and all suffer from build issues.
For $100 dollars you get a great pc couch controller that's intended to be an all-rounder that beats the big boys.

Is the rule of "don't buy the 1st year of a new model car" also apply to game peripherals too? As in those are unpolished and the first buyers are beta testers?
Indeed. I wanted the SD when it first released. But was hesitant on buying it on first release. Figured it would be best to wait a few years. And luckily, that was a better decision since the LED model was in stock. Even with the PWM issue that the LED models had, changing some settings on the deck’s display made it tolerable.

Ever since the RROD, I’ve waited a few years for some of the bugs to be worked out of a product before buying it.

I love how I can play openxcom extended on a deck, that has so many obscure binds it would be impossible on a normal controller, or at best an absolute slog with action layers

But even action layers relies on steam

Funny you have a 4chan picture, sooooo many shills there have been trying to trash valve and stroke windows and Microsofts cock lately. Kinda hilarious how in force the shills are, its like its election season on pol or something.

Also nerrels video is damn good. People underestimate gyro so fucking hard its depressing, especially when people pull insane shit like this.

And people still say its "useless". All the funnier because xbox has no gyro

Nerrel's videos are just great in general.

I really think he hit the nail on the head with these.

And when the joystick tards got big mad about being challenged on gyro aim he struck again

People have no idea what their missing if they never tried it.

I'd like to give gyro more of a try but its hard to adjust to something new. Apparently Dvorak keyboards are more efficient and faster than qwerty but I'd lose my mind trying to get used to one after using something else my whole life.

Also the few games on Switch I tried had pretty shoddy gyro. Maybe if I can get my hands on a steam machine and controller I can mess about with it some more.

If it works perfectly it's worth the price. Cheap controllers only let you down.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if those are just Microslop AI bots roaming forums and boards praising Microslop. 99% of 4chan is just AI bots talking to each other.
