It actually went up early by a tad.

I was lucky enough to get one. Assuming that the estimated delivery dates are accurate I'll report what it's like if anyone is interested next week.
I think they are? When I bought mine, it was at 3-5 days shipping. It was showing as 5-10 days shipping instead when it went up for sale again 30 minutes later. Who knows if that was manually set, or dynamically changing.

Hopefully the estimation that it's 3-5 days is actually true.

I am literally fucking furious with Valve right now.
I was waiting 10 mins before it went live, got it in the cart, and Valve's fucking incompetent piece of shit payment server was dead for 30 fucking minutes. I had everything ready and got fucked the same way the Silksong people did. Why the fuck didn't valve put up better protections from the cum sucking scalpers? If the frame or steam machine is selling this way, I am not buying it. Fuck that.

You had to spam click it in the order information page for 15 minutes with 100 dollars in your steam wallet.

Valve has never used an anti-scalping service. Neither has Microsoft nor SONY. Nintendo is the only gaming company to consistently work against scalpers hoarding their products. They rolled out a new system to block scalpers specifically for the Switch 2 launch to ensure regular fans could get a console. Unfortunately scalpers are a major part of the gaming economy (as well as live event tickets and other industries) and most companies either seem indifferent or outright happy to throw large orders to scalpers.

This is another reason why Gamestop is pushing to acquire eBay. As scalpers sell off the bulk of their merchandise on auction sites. They know that they can grab a large percentage of hardware sales then mark them up 100% or more on the secondary market. And with product scarcity it becomes a working business. A business that provides zero utility to society.

All this scalping just for the controller is not making me very optimistic about being able to nab a cube when it finally comes out (:_(

Another launch ruined by scalpers.

Allegedly you can report the "pre-order" Steam Controller listings on eBay and get them pulled.
ETA: There's a shitload of listings from Australia, of course the prison colony is a hive of scalpers.

Damn I forgot about it completely. Maybe I will get myself a flight stick instead.

I read some comments about 8bitdoU2. I cannot recommend it. My 8bitdo ultimate 2c controller keeps pissing me off with random disconnects. I tried everything already: updating, using USB 2.0, connecting dongle through hub. Nothing works. I need to get myself a longer cable.

I'm considering burning a vacation day to make sure I'm home so I can get one for myself. I didn't expect to fight scalpers over a single controller of all things.

Do you have enough money to push $700 in SteamBucks and hold out hope? Cause that seems to be the only way to really grab one of these things.

I have two 8BitDo products, a controller and a media control for the XBox One, and they both kinda suck.

The left stick on the controller doesn't always re-center and the media remote will often just stop talking to the Xbox.

They seem to almost be on the same level as Razer for being a crapshoot of either being amazingly good, or total shit even within the same product.

If the Steam Machine drops at $700, I could buy 2 comfortably but we still don't know the price or release date. All I know is that I want one and if I'm scheduled to work that day, I should take the day off. My chances of snagging one are much higher if I'm on the desktop Steam app instead of buying one on mobile at work. I began working swing shifts a couple months ago so I know my schedule an entire year in advance. It won't be hard to plan around.

Also, I did snag a single controller 8 minutes into the sale going live.
