I think I know a somewhat good comparison for that.

Israel and pagers.

Both sides are retarded and woeful. But using six grand hardware to metaphorically blow up niggers - and niggers themselves funding that - is actually fucking hilarious.

Found exact model of the cards

I don't know, chinks. Doesn't seem like it was very secure.

I feel like Riot are doing people a favour by bricking the hardware of the dentheads that still play their garbage.

I also saw this, I don't know if this is true? They're claiming the ring-zero anticheat also forces you to reformat.
not really. it only forces you to reformat if you want to keep using the DMA card, you can still use your computer as normal without cheating.

there's a bunch of uninformed sperging about ring 0 anticheats that should stop propagating (although i'd love to see riot go up in flames)
- this isn't anything new if you've been following vanguard development, they've deployed a bunch of ways to try to catch DMA users, this is just a new detection vector that catches more people
- people need to understand that if riot wanted to steal your data, they could do so just as easily from ring-3, same with bricking your computer. running as admin on windows (or as service) is just as scary if your main concern is privacy and shit not breaking your PC; the reason for them having a kernel level anticheat isn't so they can snoop around your files and send the , it's to try to catch cheats that would be impossible to detect from userland.
- as for any possible backdoors for china or whatever schizo theories people have, this again has no reason to happen in the kernel and something like this wouldn't pass ms driver certification (therefore you wouldn't be able to load their driver on your PC)
- while riot games is seemingly full of retards and assorted minorities, as far as i know their vanguard team is very competent and it's mostly prominent ex cheat devs nabbed from UnknownCheats, people like everdox and i think some secret.club people. these people know more about the windows kernel than the jeets at microsoft do nowadays. it isn't just a team of vibecoding retards.
- the odds of this occuring to actual legit players are basically 0 and even so it wouldn't fuck up your hardware, your windows install or anything else.
- the red screen of death thing looks like it's part of the game, it's not an actual bsod or anything. it's pretty obvious but some xitter retard was crying about it so i might as well mention it.

for those interested, here's a vgc dump with some info
and here's the thread discussing the new detection vector

i agree that kernel anticheats suck and i want to see more approaches similar to valve with vacnet (where the system is almost entirely serverside, opaque and while it appears to be weak it does a decent job at keeping legit players playing with eachother while pitting hackers against eachother), this requires a huge amount of money and incredibly specific talent though. there's a reason only valve really cares about this and everyone else is going all-in on kernel anticheats (ubisoft is hiring for this, EA already rolled out javelin, chinks have gameprotect, EAC & BE are still a thing etc.)

On one hand, Riot games is dogshit company (wow what a hot take) for doing this.
On the other hand, the person was playing FUCKING VALORANT LMAO.

This is like a drug dealer lacing their cocaine with something that kills the drug addict.

I'm gonna have to side with the twitter anime avatar just because I hate corpos tencent shills more, so fuck Riot Games.

It killed itself to prevent the user from playing Valorant, thats pretty secure.

So, basically, affected people knowingly bought specialized firmware and knowingly installed kernel-level anti-cheat with full knowledge that said anti-cheat can detect those cards and said anti-cheat specifically stated that it can do that. Yeah, woe to those guys as well, they even paid for that it seems.

Talks about lawsuits is a massive cope

Agreed. This only impacts devices that are specifically intended to use DMA to cheat. Using DMA to tamper with memory has no legitimate purpose. This IOMMU reset will have exactly 0 impact on any hardware that isn't intended for cheating in online multiplayer games. Also, it doesn't actually damage any hardware/firmware either. The IOMMU allows the anti-cheat software to flag the system at the OS level so that the DMA cheat hardware will no longer work without a reinstallation of the OS. So, this new IOMMU reset is not harming anything, it is just doing what it is supposed to, stop cheaters from cheating using the DMA method through the SATA/nVMe route. All the angry people are people using a hardware cheating method to cheat in multiplayer online games.

The reason they said "congrats to the owners of a new $6k paperweight" is not because it destroyed or damaged the hardware/firmware of a device. They are saying it because their anti-cheat software now is able to detect and defeat that form of cheating using DMA through SATA/nVME access so they wasted their money because it will never allow them to cheat using that method again.

Riot Games ended up posting this tweet saying "congrats to the owners of a brand new $6k paperweight" which caused quite a stir on Twitter because it implies that Riot Games is actively bricking users hardware:
Just how Retarded are these Gay Niggers? The infamous homunculus affair is benign and cute by comparison.

If retards are spending over $5000 to cheat in a stupid video game, I can't force myself to feel sorry for them when their funky devices become bricks. I only feel sorry for the landfill that had to accept them. If anyone's spending $5000 to cheat in a skill based video game, they need to get a life. It's just a game and games are for fun. Cheating ruins the fun for everyone.
It's a stupid Zoomer twitter bot gloating at stupid Zoomer vidiya cheaters. I'll just watch the feud and laugh.
I still find those valorant cheating reaction compilations to be pretty funny. It's great to see how smug some retard streamer gets when a cheater they spotted gets the axe.

That said, anti-cheat is cancer. Those Chinese and Korean ones are especially cancerous. That's why I refuse to play any of those games.

Preaching to the choir in that spending almost 6 fucking thousand just to cheat at counterstrike but made for weaboo sex offenders is really fucking niggerlicious but Riot going "tee-hee we can brick hardware if we dont like something but we will only use it for dirty dirty cheating chips we pinky promise!!!111!" is peak niggercattle

Even if it has a 100% success rate and has never damaged any hardware incorrectly yet, anyone at the company who is so inclined could modify this maliciously. As an avid RuneScape addict, I'm very well-acquainted with rogue employees abusing internal company tools for personal gain or just spiteful grudge BS.

And that's not even getting into malicious actors from outside of Riot compromising the anti-cheat service.

I actually find this nuclear option to the cheating problem fascinating. They're hitting the hardware in a way that isn't irrecoverable, but will take you out for at least a day, and that's assuming you know how to do a OS reinstall. Is this overreach? Yes. At the same time, the targets are niggers spending 6k on a cheat device to become the biggest giga nigger in Valorant. It's kinda kino, ngl
i could respect it if it wasn't accompanied with some cringe-ass red screen of death meme

that just reeks of them huffing their own farts
