The ranking of students from No. 1 on down, based on grade-point averages, has been fading steadily for about the past decade. In its place are honors that recognize everyone who scores at a certain threshold — using Latin honors, for example. This year, one school in Tennessee had 48 valedictorians.

All of this to tap dance around the fact blacks are low IQ. Postmodernism sends incentive and tradition down the memory hole.

I'm sure this is going to help the newly minted illiterate failures in the rest of their lives where there are no participation trophies for morons.

The same crowd doing this is doing their best to legally force companies to operate on participation trophy rules.

:powerlevel:When I saw the headline, I thought it was the opposite problem. Growing up surrounded by rich overachievers will do that...

My high school didn't have valedictorians because it was huge and at least three kids tied for it every year. Sometimes four or five for really large classes. :powerlevel:

I never understood the American obsession with people besting the rest of their class: without a standard metric, it's meaningless. You could be the top of a class of morons, and still be a moron yourself. Equally, you could be bottom of a class full of academically gifted spergs, and still be more intelligent and better educated than 90% of the population.

Please USA, get your shit together. Doing away with ranking students on their personal merit for fear of hurting the feelings of students belonging to a garbage ethnicity is exactly how Western Europe started its intellectual decline.

Honestly what did you elect Trump for ?

As far as high school goes, it's a TV cliche that doesn't come up in real life.

If you're the top of your class in college, a hiring manager (for example) would only pay attention to the "top of your class" part if you went to a good school, which provides the vital context.

I thought it was for inflated grades but the reasons you guys think. If the school has 15 valedictorians that's potentially 15 people going to top tier schools. But schools have caught on so it's kind of useless. My school didn't have them either.

Well, I guess that means every dindu nignog shot trying to steal a box of cigarillos will at least die a Valedictorian instead of a worthless sack of shit lol

It's getting harder and harder to avoid becoming a total racist the more I read about this shit. Not towards those of any race that happen to actually ante up and make something of themselves by their own merits, but for the tens of which surround him/her who will take total advantage of this fucked up system.

Holy shit. You are supposed to score 95% of a test like that when are at the last elementary school here, and that is for a non English speaking country.
