I think there is a chance Gaetz nominated Trump to try and convince him to firmly move away from backing McCarthy in order to create more of a wedge in the McCarthy supporter camp. Trump is also a man who can't really how to say, "resist" a compliment or honor in a way.

Also at this rate I hope McCarthy packed a sleeping bag:

Wouldn't it be in the democrats best interest to support some goofball that the other 20 freedom caucus members nominate, despite not being a democrat? It would completely throw a wrench in the republican majority and they have to know there's no chance of an actual democrat pick as speaker, plus they only need like six of em to vote for mickey mouse or whoever.

Don't be surprised if the references to January 6, 2021 in relation to the Republicans daring not to allow McCarthy scoot his way into the speaker spot shoot up by 100%. I mean anything is possible when members of the opposition has already called them infidels and the Taliban.

Well, its not like he can escalate any threats considering he already previously vowed that as Speaker he would break them.

I can see this happening. A few dems vote for McCarthy as a sign of unity but under the table they get a deal either in their district or their party.

There is so much focus on the House currently but we have to remember the big picture: Democrats have the presidency and Senate under control already. A Neocon Speaker giving away any concessions to the Democrats no matter how minor is effectively tossing away the only major electoral victory from the 2022 midterms. As much as McCarthy probably would love to have his speaker seat, his "moderate" and "centrist" supporters have to realize how bad it would be for their political careers to do something like that.

The longer this is forced to the drag out, the longer it stays in the public conscious. A miscalculated move could be enough to fuel plenty of future attack ads.

Wouldn't it be better to drag this out indefinitely then, since Mccarthy is definitely not going to honor any concession and the Dems are too prideful to vote for him. Even if they form a uniparty it will make it worse for the Dems as it would split the Republicans which might make the Progressive faction of the Dems feel that they can split off and do better on their own. That and they can't fuck us over until a speaker gets elected... kek

You forget the apathy and idiocy of the average American voter. Lot of the ones I know (in a deep red district) adopted the Taliban 20 as their motto overnight.

There's a good 1/3 of the GOP that would never vote Jim Jordan because they'd rather burn the GOP down than vote for someone who's properly "conservative"

For some reason, this gives me hope. If this keeps going on and the situation between Mccarthy and the FC gets worse, the end result would be either they don't fuck with us till 2024 or a uniparty which would create a new political party overnight, hopefully they nickname themselves the Taliban and will actually serve the people

I like the idea of the Chadiban. All they have to do is hold on with diamond hands to their votes and eventually they'll get not only the Speaker position but billions of dollars worth of military equipment!
