I was at a conference for work this week, and before the power point presentation, the product presenters showed a parody of the Stranger Things opening but with all the features of their new software instead of the actors names. My occupation still attracts older woman, so only 20 people in that room got the joke, and had a chuckle, and I sat there and rolled my eyes.

Did I just stumbled onto the most autistic thread on the Farms, or did I just walked into the Entersphere by accident again?

WE ARE THE TRUE GATEKEEPERS OF AUTISM, BOW BEFORE OUR MIGHTY KNOWLEDGE OF USELESS SCI-FI, FANTASY & SONIC LITERATURE TRIVIA.

But seriously, some people take this stuff too seriously, either getting buttblasted because they are the one with useless "nerd" stuff on their desk, or because they are legitimately MAD people are showing off "nerd cred".

Like who gives a fuck it's stupid and funny.

Well it can be funny, but most of it is downright autistic and annoying. See: NerdGirlProblems

Oh man.
I guess I can see how people who are into nerdy things can get mad if someone doesn't actually like that stuff but is trying to look like they do, especially if it's hard to find people who are into said thing you're into.
I mean I kinda see where they're coming from, I don't quiz people wearing band shirts, but I do see bands as common ground when I talk to people who I think are a fan of the bands I'm also a fan of. I think most people may agree that it's a little bit awkward talking to someone about a band when he/she bought the shirt just because it looked cool.

I don't see the whole REEEEEing about the things they like getting mainstream. It's like hipsters.
If the thing you like is getting popular, that means that you won't be thought of as weird for liking said thing?

Pretty much. People are whining that some people are able to like the things they like without having experienced years of social ostracism as an autistic tard.

I think it all stems from the whole "it wasn't okay when i did it, but now it's mainstream the people who gave me shit for it now suddenly think it's cool enough for them"
i get how it's annoying. As soon as the IT remake came out everyone I knew from years ago is suddenly all about horror flicks, and it's suddenly not a weird thing that's for people who will become serial killers one day anymore. It's the same when halloween rolls around. Every fucking year.
edit: apologies for the mad salt.

Just in time for Christmas.

This would actually be a pretty funny mug for all those people who can't stop talking about how much they hate coffee.

I said something along the same lines a few pages ago, and I think that disgruntlement over everyone suddenly liking something you got made fun of over is pretty universal and, on its own, isn't that terrible. The occasional autistic meltdown over it is forgivable, I think, especially if you're self-aware that it's a silly thing to be upset about.

But when your CONSTANT state is "I'm a REAL FAN of X and I WILL NOT tolerate these IMPOSTERS," that's when it gets to be really terrible. No one wants to hear about how awful it is that there are now legions of Chads in your fandom keeping you from getting laid by geeky cuties or post on Tumblr about how terrible it is that girls who dare to be mildly attractive are wearing anime shirts from Hot Topic.

Geek shit just isn't that serious.

I guess you're also a big horror fan? I totally get it man. There's no reason to have a meltdown, it's kinda something to laugh at and scroll through facebook. It's kinda like politics, I just ignore it.

Elitist fans are the most annoying autistic bastards in the world. I mean you can still be a fan of something without knowing everything there is to know. If anything those people are the ones getting avoided. If you know everything about a certain topic people will probably think you have way too much free time.

What I find most amusing is nerds who deliberately avoid things they should by all rights enjoy (like Stranger Things) simply because normies like them.

I get people not wanting to watch something because of the "hype" around it. I mean I'm sure Stranger Things is a decent show, but people telling me I have to watch it because "it's the best thing ever" puts me off as that often leads to me watching movies and stuff and it's not as good as people say it is.. It's a new fad and a passing phase, just like Orange is the new black was.

But people avoiding it because it's popular? Are you sure you didn't mean to say hipsters instead of nerds?
Edit: All jokes aside, people who get mad about "normies" liking things to the point of avoiding them should probably get off their high horse, like it's a popular show, just because you're not into the "mainstream" and "normie" stuff doesn't mean it's cancerous.

I just find people who have to talk about how "nerdy" they are at all and actually make it a part of their identity is really annoying, it's like that weird kid back in middle school who tried too hard to be different but everyone just made fun of them

I'd say elitist fans are autistic, but they have a point. Their "INCORRUPTIBLE FANBASES" can be "ruined" by this over saturation of people, but generally speaking(at least in this specific situation) it is very uncommon for anyone, dare I say, "attractive" and/or "popular" to enjoy things "nerds" do. And if they begin to enjoy it, don't outright reject them. Isn't it better for a fanbase to grow, especially in "elite fans", rather than splinter?

It's a simple logical argument that it's better to help these people integrate and join your community instead of screaming "NORMIE NEWFAG GET OUT REEEEEEEEE".
