My occupation still attracts older woman, so only 20 people in that room got the joke, and had a chuckle, and I sat there and rolled my eyes.

I guess I can see how people who are into nerdy things can get mad if someone doesn't actually like that stuff but is trying to look like they do, especially if it's hard to find people who are into said thing you're into.
I mean I kinda see where they're coming from, I don't quiz people wearing band shirts, but I do see bands as common ground when I talk to people who I think are a fan of the bands I'm also a fan of. I think most people may agree that it's a little bit awkward talking to someone about a band when he/she bought the shirt just because it looked cool.

I don't see the whole REEEEEing about the things they like getting mainstream. It's like hipsters. If the thing you like is getting popular, that means that you won't be thought of as weird for liking said thing?

i get how it's annoying. As soon as the IT remake came out everyone I knew from years ago is suddenly all about horror flicks, and it's suddenly not a weird thing that's for people who will become serial killers one day anymore. It's the same when halloween rolls around. Every fucking year.

I get people not wanting to watch something because of the "hype" around it. I mean I'm sure Stranger Things is a decent show, but people telling me I have to watch it because "it's the best thing ever" puts me off as that often leads to me watching movies and stuff and it's not as good as people say it is.. It's a new fad and a passing phase, just like Orange is the new black was.

But people avoiding it because it's popular? Are you sure you didn't mean to say hipsters instead of nerds?
Edit: All jokes aside, people who get mad about "normies" liking things to the point of avoiding them should probably get off their high horse, like it's a popular show, just because you're not into the "mainstream" and "normie" stuff doesn't mean it's cancerous.

I'd say elitist fans are autistic, but they have a point. Their "INCORRUPTIBLE FANBASES" can be "ruined" by this over saturation of people, but generally speaking(at least in this specific situation) it is very uncommon for anyone, dare I say, "attractive" and/or "popular" to enjoy things "nerds" do. And if they begin to enjoy it, don't outright reject them. Isn't it better for a fanbase to grow, especially in "elite fans", rather than splinter?

It's a simple logical argument that it's better to help these people integrate and join your community instead of screaming "NORMIE NEWFAG GET OUT REEEEEEEEE".
