I'm not keen on the walls and walls of Funko Pops that are in every geek-type store, and most of them are downright creepy, but a few of the weirder ones are kind of fun to get. I got a Gerard Way one as a gift that I love for the sheer absurdity of it.

I think it's quite funny that doctor who became popular in the US because it contains 'hot' British blokes teens cling to. They wouldn't even think of watching old doctor who or even the 9th doctor. All because they aren't attractive to them.
Sherlock is also popular I would assume because of the gay ships they ship him in and the fact teens just love fictional phycopaths e.g the joker

I think it's because culturally, Japan is quite different from the US, so there are a lot of aspects of anime that make it difficult to follow unless you're willing to work at it.

It isn't really, though. There's less difference between the lifestyle of an upper class American and upper class Japanese person than between an upper class American and one who lives in East St Louis. Cartoons about robots, pirates, and martial artists fighting each other aren't hard to understand. Even CHRIS could understand Japanese cartoons, and he couldn't understand the concept of Australia.

Besides, I thought Tumblrinas liked that cartoon about the gay ice skaters.

I honestly thought I was the only person who hated Funko Pops. Thank you for proving me wrong.

They also liked the gay swimmers*. And the gay robot-fighters**. And for 5 minutes, some of 'em had a boner for gay stalkers*** until SJWs deemed it problematic.

*Not confirmed gay that I know of.

**Not confirmed gay, but popular enough to warrant someone trying to keep leaks up until a ship is canon.

***Which actually is gay.

Since when have girl fandoms given a crap about canon gay. In fact it's usually more popular when it's ambigious, since they can make up their own pairings, and look for their own 'clues'.

Sherlock's clients are always middle or upper class people.
I thought that was because they were more-or-less being faithful to the original novels (yeah, they updated it for the modern day, but it's not as blatant or aggressive as most other examples).

Don't forget the cartoon about the gay sextuplets.

I wonder how many people REEEing about normies liking the same things as they do in this thread would be the first to mock Tumblrinas whining about cultural appropriation.

Anyone who actually gets mad over "fake nerds" either got thrown into too many trash cans or not enough.

Imagine a loser getting mad at loser posers.

i don't even get the appeal, on a purely superficial level. ugly little motherfuckers got a nasty design.

They're just owls if you pasted a pug's face over it.

Or reality. What kind of poor people have the dosh to hire a private detective?

For Japanese stuff in general I think it depends on the content, the mass media stuff is easier to digest, but the more culturalish or niche stuff isn't because obviously for most things cultural or niche, you need to acquire a taste for, it isn't that much different from foreign cuisine. I'm sure there are many people turned off by screeching high pitch mouse women, infantile adults, child like aesthetics or just the aesthetics in general, skimpy clothes, "undecipherable sense of humor", or unable to get into the word play and language puns in some content because they don't understand Japanese. Though chuunishit is autism, and knows no cultural bounds when concerning autists.

Personally, "confucianist values" gives me a nice rustle.

Most of that stuff isn't normal in Japan, though. Some young women speak and dress in a weird way, in the same way as tumblrinas do in the US with their "I'm done adulting", but if you go into the bank the female clerks aren't going to squeak childish phrases at you while wearing indecent outfits.

It's a much more reserved society than the US and UK in general, and people tend to be formal unless they know each other well, especially in white collar business, which does have a weird culture but in a different way. I'd say it was almost the opposite of what you claim. You seem to be describing the kind of autismal cartoons which air at 2AM and are watched only by neckbeards. "Culturalish" things would be The Seven Samurai.
