Doesn't matter. They've given up on trying to find actual dirt on Trump. Keep in mind these are the same people who completely made up a Russian Collusion narrative out of whole cloth so they could obtain a warrant to illegally spy on his campaign. Then later they used that same fabrication as a pretext to imprison and separate him from key allies in an attempt to destroy his administration.
The specific reason they're going after MAL and the SCIF is that they think they can get him on a charge that involves fucking around with top secret documents - those charges prevent people from holding office in the USA. They're not doing this to try and find dirt, because they are no doubt monitoring and spying on him around the clock already.

That said the most interesting thing to me is what this suggests their internal and accurate polling is reporting. Doing a raid like this means that they have flat out given up on trying to win by appealing to voters/the general populace. They're just trying to present some kind of legal bullshit that takes Trump out of the running, which suggests that the numbers are looking so bad for the establishment that they're not even going to be able to cheat their way past the finish line.

But the problem here is - he's the President. It is lawfully under his discretion to classify and un-classify documents as he sees fit. Legally, this won't hold up. It's like everything they've used against him and his allies, it's creative prosecution at best

They're terrified of Trump and they know that it's now or never. They'll have seen the recent primaries and seen Blake Masters, Kari Lake, Tudor Dixon, John Gibbs and, just today, Joe Kent, win over establishment Republicans. They know that those candidates can take the general elections and then, come next year, the FBI will be looking at a massive rectal probe. They won't have free reign to do stuff like this again. So they rolled the dice.

None of these people will win except for Kent

He ain't the President no mo :)

As far as I understand it, the rank of President is for life. Every car ride is to be chauffeured for your safety. You get invited to all the inaugurations and shit. Your term of address remains "Mr. President" for as long as you continue to breathe. Doesn't matter if you occupy the White House or not. Probably doesn't matter if you immigrate to another country.

I could look it up, but I can't be bothered. Just like how I'm fairly sure addressing a previous President in formal discourse as anything other than "President X" is disrespectful. Didn't Trump get a stern finger-wag from the MSM when he referred to "ex-President Obama" or something along those lines, only for said MSM to pretty much universally refer to him as "Former President Trump" thereafter?

Once again, "rules for thee" in the most asinine of circumstances.

Niceties aside, I was referring to the ability to classify or declassify information. I think only current Presidents get to do that.

And I call Obama "Obama" cause he's not the President anymore either.

A decent legal theory for Trump would be that he brought them down while sitting as President and thus couldn't possibly be mishandling classified documents. If they charge him (I give it slightly less than even odds) we'll see what he says and what they say.

Also we're not the political class in a formal setting, we're internet forum users. A different conduct is expected with names. Trump's title is still President Trump, same with all former presidents. It also gives them literally no power. I expect certain security clearances stick, but not all of them. Defense workers and such keep their security clearances after they leave.

Also, and again do correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the recent impeachment attempts technically null and void since to actually impeach a President, said President has to be holding active office? Otherwise you're impeaching a private citizen, right?

These aren't current documents that Trump stole from the White House or something. These are his personal White House papers from when he was President. It's under his purview to declassify them as he saw fit.

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Where would we be without you?

I think it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of shenanigans they will be able to pull at midterms. They’re obviously doing everything they can to make it so Orangeman cannot run and I’m assuming they’re trying to pull an October surprise with Jan6 and Trump to hurt the GOP. But let’s be honest no one cares at all about Jan6 when gas prices will be set to peak when we tap out of our strategic reserves AND the pain from harvest sets in at the grocery store

This.
American (well, Western society in general) is on the verge of becoming France circa 1791, and the American government are all Marie-Antoinette figures. Instead of "let them eat cake" it's "drive electric cars". They certainly realise, as much as we do at this point, that no-one with mouths to feed and an honest job to work gives two shits about their latest peachmint attempt or whatever the fuck they're seething and malding over this week. With their outright refusal to take responsibility for the impending energy and financial crisis that they themselves caused, denying that it's even happening as the potato's approval ratings sink to record lows, their only option to maintain relative order is to take out the opposition by any means necessary.

So real talk. I been fallowing the polls on and off and in June I was 100 percent sure the gop would win a blow out now in August I am not so sure. I feel the gop would win the house dems may senite but not the blow out I hope for. Do voters really care more about woke, niggers, fags and troons then having a functional society and economy? People say the economy sucks but are also getting cold feet about voting republicans?

That means 0.

People referred to Obama as just Obama even when he was in office, even people in media. Same thing with Biden and Bush and everyone else. Progs thought they were really showing Trump by only saying that instead of president but ofc were only just continuing being mentally retarded.

Time to "update" another definition. Freedom might just get the recession treatment, now!

Polling always shows the Dems doing well in July/August. You can go back and look at previous Congressional races, combination of low voter engagement, push polling and right wingers being harder to reach. The GOP is 100% guaranteed to win the House, likely they'll take control of the Senate as well even though the Republican leadership don't want the majority. Of course they'll do absolutely nothing with the win except sperg about corporate tax cuts for 2 years and try and stop Trump.

This.

Most haven't come to terms with how utterly fucked the global economy is after the Covid lockdowns. Himalayan debt and inflation combined with dysfunctional labor markets . The US is actually better off than most countries, which isn't saying much.

Keep an eye on western Europe. Britbongs are already speculating that there will be legit shortages of basics, starvation for the poor and massive civil unrest by October.

In the UK the price of natural gas and electricity has doubled over the past 6 months and they're estimating a minimum further 150-200% price increase by spring. The average Brit will be paying 5K per year just for their energy utility bill. Inflation is expected to peak at 14-15%.

Same story in many other European nations. Likely the partial opening of Ukrainian and Russian grain exports is too late to stop starvation in MENA and black Africa so we can throw in a migrant crisis. The only thing that will partially mitigate the coming clsuterfuck is the Ukraine war coming to a rapid resolution, IOW it's baked in.
