The “Unmasking Antifa Act of 2018,” legislation introduced in the House, carries a potential 15-year prison sentence for those caught engaging in behaviors typically associated with the “antifa” movement of anti-fascist activists.

Under the act, anyone “wearing a mask” or in disguise who “injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates any person … in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege” would be subject to a fine or up to 15 years in prison.

The bill was introduced in the House last month but received renewed attention on Tuesday after alt-right personality Mike Cernovich encouraged his followers to call their representatives and "let them know what you think" about the legislation.

Antifa activists, who often wear masks, have gained nationwide attention for engaging in violent clashes. Many activists in the movement have also disrupted actions planned by white supremacist groups.

The bill was introduced by Republican Rep. Dan Donovan (N.Y.) and is co-sponsored by GOP Reps. Pete King (N.Y.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.) and Ted Budd(N.C.).

The bill is currently in the House Judiciary Committee.

About fuckin time. Antifa is one of the most disgraceful excuses for activism I have ever seen. They aren't just counter-effective to their own cause, they give actual activist groups a bad name by association. I hope the courts throw the book at as many of them as possible as an example to future generations to never attempt this dumbass shit again.

Heroes don't need masks to punch people into brain damage.

Oh man, the twitter screencaps for this are gonna be great once they start becoming aware of this.

But Antifa... You guys are kinda fascist and nazi...

The salt will be hilarious. Too bad we no longer have the salt mine.:(

Several towns and cities adopted similar laws in order to crack down on the KKK decades ago. I wonder how these ANTIFAgs feel knowing that this is how society sees them.

Poor babbies.

15 years is way too much
It's a maximum, doof. As in, "college professor in a black mask inflicts actual violence and causes physical harm with a bike lock." Excellent max as a deterrent to bad behavior. You don't get 15 for peacefully assembling, holding up a sign, and staying on your designated curb, intimidating no one. If you're calling out verbal bomb threats in a crowd, that ought to be ground for a 5-year "think about where your life is going" stint in the pokey.

The jail time for what the professor did is not the same jail time for wearing the mask, 15 years maximum for the act of wearing a mask is fucking dumb no matter if they are antifa or the KKK

It's not a mandatory minimum sentence. Bike lock guy definitely deserves an extra charge like that, but I agree noodley armed soyboys chucking rocks that couldn't break a $2 pair of sunglasses don't. The assumption that the court will find the appropriate measure between no punishment and the maximum is how non-drug laws work. Of course in the places these fags LARP Che Guevara, the judges will probably trend towards slaps on the wrist.

This is one of those laws that I feel weird about. An actually oppressive government would institute this shit overnight, so having it on the books already isn't gonna help usher in an oppressive government. I'm redicent to accept a law just because it hurts those that I dislike. I'm sure there are laws on the books already that could used against these asshats, maybe more what we need is something to punish the police who's inaction let them get this bad?

I dunno, I'm not strongly opposed to it, this country has a rich history of standing up against what people feel is unjust proudly, face and name unobscured. This however feels like throwing another law on the books that wentw change anything, and everyone padding themselves on the back.

Also, the text of the law says you have to be wearing a mask WHILE illegally suppressing a peaceful assembly or protest, a mask alone won't qualify.

frankly i think the sentence should be hard labor just so they know what it's like to have a job

Reminds me of how certain municipalities handle fan conventions. Some cosplayers do go around partially or fully masked. On the other hand, they're not protesting or starting riots, just looking cool or ridiculous (YMMV).

To be fair, if they do 15 years for this, they should also up the penalties under § 249 to the same. Or just make them the same as those, which are currently 10 years.

Did you even read the bill?

It's not just for wearing a mask. That would be unconstitutional. It's for wearing a mask to thwart identification while committing a crime of violence, just like the Klan Act that has been a law since shortly after the Civil War and which has been upheld as constitutional.

Nobody is getting 15 years for tipping over a garbage can while wearing a mask.

You have to remember, DAs just looovveeeee adding up charges.

"Alright, your guy was wearing a full face mask when he assaulted an 80 year old man with a bike lock. That's elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and committing a felony while wearing a mask. We're look at 40 years here. We're willing to take out the elder abuse and the felony mask, which will be 15-20."

It adds leverage to the state while weakening a terrorist group. Granted that 'terrorist group' is filled with soyboy faggots, limp wristed university liberals and weak white boys. Seriously, I've seen more black guys on the OTHER side than the ANTIFA side. If the 'fascists' have more blacks than you, you REALLY need to take a look at yourself. I've also only seen ANTIFA do any damage through cheap shots, hitting defenseless targets and shit like that.

When its open street warfare they ALWAYS get fucked. Because they don't have ANY blue collar supporters. Its not like the days of old where union riots involved bombs, lead pipes and men. Now it involves weak, lanky faggots looking to club someone in the back of the head against fucking steel workers and veterans. Its so pathetic.

The mayors that support ANTIFA and call off the cops are doing the opposition a HUGE favor, because we see how weak they are. They spout civil war, but holy shit, if they're putting that out there, the war would be quick, violent and they'd be eradicated in a second. Their enemies are holding back. They don't have a single clue what would happen if the opposition was as violent as they were. There would be bodies on the ground for sure.
