Same here. I get that he doesn’t want to give a definitive answer for the main character, but he doesn’t need to add fuel to the fire by constantly making random bumfuck NPCs they/thems. No one - and I mean no one - would have been upset if Toby just committed to Seam being male or the worm NPC being either male or female.

Yeah Seam especially annoys me. I mean look at this.

There is nothing about this design that screams feminine, or ambiguous, this is an old ass man cat. Even IF he wanted it to be ambiguous, nobody mentions Seam by a pronoun at any point, so canonizing it as genderspecial is literally just him adding fuel to the fire.

Thing is I wouldn’t give a shit if Toby made a couple of they/them npcs or whatever but it makes me laugh a bit when I was told Seam was one of them bc it somewhat feels last minute no offense.

I think the only characters in all of Undertale / Deltarune I'd concede could reasonably fall under neither binary are Frisk and Napstablook. And even in the case of Frisk, they're often treated as female and I'd personally have no problem calling Kris a girl though he reads way more as a male.

Though given how Toby writes girls like Noelle, I feel like the only thing keeping her from being a boy is that she wears a skirt, has eyelashes, and is addressed specifically with feminine terms.

Alphys was explicitly written as a guy during the development of UT, then Toby switched her to a chick last minute.

Also I forgot to mention this, but Jaru believes Kris is a girl, so yes he thinks the plot of Deltarune is two Yandere's (Kris the little sister and Dess the childhood friend) fighting over Asriel/Ralsei/the Knight.

Because Frisk was almost completely devoid of personality, unlike Kris. (Which made the "Twist" name reveal at the end of True Pacifist very confusing for me on the first go around. I get NOW that some fucking how Frisk is just a puppet being puppeted around by Chara's ghost who is also somehow being puppeted around by us, God this sounds so retarded.)

I thought we were puppeteering frisk, whereas chara was just a disembodied entity that narrates the game for us.
