I'm ignoring this thread like the plague, but I was curious to get some takes from my dear kiwisisters. So, without spoilers, chapter 3 and 4 are keeping things going well or is there fumbling? Also, is there any sort of continuation to snowgrave and is it a real branching?

Without spoilering too much, chapter 3 is filler, but I found it pretty fun (you gonna love the "secret" boss). Chapter 4 is lore-heavy and probably my favorite chapter in terms of what it brings to the plot.

Both chapters continue upon snowgrave (specially chapter 4) but they aren't as direct as freezing an entire chicken like chapter 2. Still, if you're doing a weird route run, you won't be disappointed on what happens.

Gaster theorizing never made much sense to me. Sure Deltarune is a game Toby means for people to player after Undertale, but even within Undertale Gaster isn't that important and is very hidden. Only the super fans were really aware of him, most people that only did a single play through or only did the mains routes wouldn't even be aware he exists.
It would be odd if he was the central thrust of Deltarune's narrative or the main villain. If he is anything he's going to be a secret that you'll have to go out of your way to find. Even then I don't expect to fight or meet him in person.
 
So, I started the Snowgrave route, and I got to the alternate game in Chapter 3...
I'm a little mad that now, on my second profile, I'm learning that it's important for secrets. I got one sword level in my Pacifist file, and had a bad feeling, so I stopped... Fuck me lmao

So now I've got a go back and do this Shadow Mantle fight, and the egg all over again.

And I suck at th Shadow Mantle fight, but I asked my husband if he's good at Bomberman, and he said yes... And he's nailing this fight for me.

I beat Spamton NEO on Snowgrave this morning, but Bomberman is where I crumble lmao

And on Chapter 3+4 being kinda mid, I wonder if Toby maybe learned from Andrew Hussie, of all people, about moving on from project to project? Like, Hussie made mspaintadventures, and from that came Problem Sleuth, and it's one of my favorite comics from that time... But, it ended, and he moved on to making...
Homestuck.
And in that, there was a panel about Hussie not being sure if the audience would like the new comic. Given that a large chunk of Undertale's popularity is from Homestuck, and he programmed it while living in Hussie's basement, maybe he heard some of those worries.

I know it's petty of me and I know Toby probably wouldn't like it, but everytime I see Toby's success I hope deep in my evil little heart that Hussie is jealous. Even if a little. I loved Problem Sleuth and I could have liked Homestuck if it didn't get infected with degeneracy. And I will forever A-Log Hussie for capitulating to the worst fanbase ever.

My petty contempt aside, Do we know if the two are working together at all anymore, by the way?
 
I didn't even know there was a thread for sperging out about Ut\dt, but I saw the supposed "rape scene" in the community update thread and I was officially worried. I only just fully finished both the normal and weird routes and honestly the only thing that was raped was chapter 3. Good God it was so boring and not fun to play. Tenna was so disappointing after waiting years.

I loved 4 overall and I can't wait for 5. I hoped for more snowgrave-like crazy shit happening but I think Toby is saving that for chapter 5 and just laying (red pixel) seeds for now. I don't blame him for changing that scene now that I saw how many people were sperging over it.

Whoever he hired to make chapter 3 should not be allowed to ever touch another game ever again.
 
The only thing I didn't like in Chapter 4 was the "You're taking too long" dude talks like some old tumblr funnymen - specifically sandsvendor100 and fruitsoftheape100 (his blog has a probiscis monkey with its wiener out as its most recent post, so I wouldn't look at it in public). This stuff dates back to 2014, so it hasn't been relevant in over a decade.

I checked a LP of Chapter 2 to refresh my memory. The writing is noticeably better and Tenna is dull compared to the Queen. Moreover, the Titans shown in that cutscene look different, so we'll most certainly fight bigger/stronger Titans in the future, I bet. But that shouldn't happen immediately, at least.
The secret boss of Chapter 3's minigame is bad, and the superboss is stupidly hard, to the point I recommend you to use "outside help" unless you're autistically good at playing Touhou.

yeah i went back last night to do snowgrave and queen is a genuinely hilarious character whereas tenna is a watered down spamton with extra special effects hiding a "no one watches tv anymore :(" lame ass backstory that does nothing for me. i had a grand time playing ch2 for the first time and i still do now so its really not just a memory lapsus, ch3 just sucks ass

Tenna to me seems like he was literally just written for the purpose of being a meme character. Whereas Queen and Spamton were written normally and became meme characters because they were funny.

Outside of Undyne being abducted, the knight appearing and a lore dump about stuff we already guessed was true. Did anything of note happen plot wise?
"Filler chapter" is genuinely the best way to describe ch3.

its not even that its a filler chapter, a filler chapter doesnt have to be bad but the gameplay of ch3 is fucking boring. it reminds me a lot of paper mario ttyd chapter 3, the grubba tournament, and the more i think about it the more im convinced that was very intentional on tobys part. the problem is that deltarune ch3 lacks all of the things that made the mario chapter 3 good such as fun fights, an actually interesting mystery plot, a cool new party member, but it eagerly adopted the mario ch3s main problem which was fucking the pacing into the dirt.

I would assume not.
Hussie has become a huge drama bomb in recent years and I'm pretty sure that the HS fandom at large hate him at this point.
The worst part is that they're mostly right. He was apparently a nightmare to work with and has completely destroyed any community goodwill that people had for him.
Toby was allegedly shielded from most of this due to being a favourite but he was still the liason between Hussie and the music team in the later years. It can't have gone unnoticed.

I also hated how his vulnerable sprite was a reference to this fucking thing from 5 years ago and how he started speaking in Mario 64 gibberish.

Huh, I didn't know that one, good thing I'm away from social networks. I know that boss also parodies Sinistar, for the oldies here. Speaking of: Tenna should have relied on the humor of referencing things from the 80s that none of the players would know about due to his status as an old man out of time... And he actually does (to a small extent)! Alas, only in the hidden Board 3 that you can only know about with guides or messing with the game files.
 
It could just be stylistic choice, but when Kris' soul begins to shine against the Knight's attack in Chapter 4, it first glows pure white (like a monster soul) and then has a glowing white outline.
As we know, humans can absorb the souls of Boss Monsters (Like Asgore, Toriel and Asriel) which enables them to do things that normal humans can't, like pass the barrier (in Undertale), and possibly seal Dark Worlds.
Pure schizo theory, I think that Kris' soul might just be a combination of a human and a monster soul. Possibly even Asriel's soul.

On a more minor note, I think the weather couple became wasted potential. Two lovers drifting apart and getting back makes for very good melodrama, since y'know... We're supposed to be in a TV world?

Instead all we got from them was an unfunny trouple joke, an unfunny trouple fight and reuniting them in a shitty zelda clone. What a waste man. Loving heterosexual couples are haram in tumblristan I guess
