The recent meeting with Juncker would imply otherwise, our government was apparently surprised by the most predictable of reactions, which really doesn't bode well considering they're going to be negotiating on behalf of the nation.
Also it's been nearly a year and there literally is no plan which hardly qualifies as "coming to terms".

The thing is, it's a lot of EU bluster because their position is far weaker than the sabre rattling suggests. In the 10 months since the referendum there's been trade deal offers from some 20 or more nations with Canada planning to just change the names around on CETA and Mexico basically drafting up an agreement ready to be signed the moment we're able to.

Implying there's "no plan" because the alcoholic's aides from Brussels leaked it is just ridiculous, the government has been fanatical about keeping its cards close to the chest because of how tough the negotiations are likely to be to the point May's risking a General Election to shut up the whining bastards on the other benches.

Common sense should prevail for a group teetering on the edge of widespread economic stagnation to not try and fuck over yet more of their citizens and a sensible trade agreement should be met, as the UK is already casting around to see who's interested in trading with the UK and doing deals (turns out it's a lot of them).

Even if we wind up walking away from the EU with no deal whatsoever it would actually be better for us economically due to the sheer weight of our trading deficit, the average of the import duties would be about 4.7% or less, and the EU would be paying us at around twice the rate we pay them, to the point that a clever government would simply set aside half of the import revenues raised to negate any costs occurred by being charged exporting to the EU.

On top of all that only around 15% of the UK's economy actually relies on the EU market and its about to find out how big the rest of the world actually is when the deals begin to roll in and it becomes cheaper to import shit from Mexico or Africa than dicking around with ornery French Farmers and their angry lorry drivers.

We'd be able to stop the absurdity of 200% tax on Garlic and Sugar from outside the EU for starters which benefits only the French to the exclusion of everyone else, for a start never mind the other crap we can just bonfire and buy on the international markets and that's before we begin to look at proper trade deals.

This is because the EU is at heart a Franco-German racket. French farms are massively subsidised and German industry and banks get the benefit of region wide protectionism.

So, tonight the local elections are taking place. While not entirely indicative of how the election will go, these results may be interesting for y'all. Updates are live on the BBC website.

Results so far, and keep in mind it is VERY early days, do NOT look good for Labour or UKIP.
UKIP's reason for existing kind of came and went once article 50 eas triggered so I am not surprised that they are falling by the wayside.

What is surprising is that the UKIP vote has collapsed... and gone over completely to May's Tories. Despite the previous indicators being it was made up of various disaffected voters and making decent headway into Labour Heartlands.

Even the much vaunted "Lib Dem Fightback" has fallen utterly flat on its arse with the Lib Dems losing 24 councillors as well.

The elections yesterday are a pretty good indicator of the general election but it's taking forever to get results in.

Is it really suprising? May is offering a 'Hard Brexit' and promised to prioritise ending freedom of movement so why risk splitting the Tory vote and allow Labour or the Lib Dems in?

It's a surprise to the Nuttall wing of UKIP, who believed UKIP is a party of the disaffected white working class.

They aren't taking Labour votes off the disaffected white working class. If UKIP's existing constituency is the right wing of the Tory party, Mother Theresa has brought those lost lambs back into the fold with 'hard' Brexit. That leaves UKIP only two places to go - even further right of the Tories, or even further left of Labour.

Actually... yes. A lot of pointless, blind hatred for the Tories some 30+ years on runs very deep, even under Blair as he increasingly became globalist, metro-elite driven (he always was, just made it more overt) those areas stuck with him. UKIP was a bigger threat in those areas of the past four years precisely because it wasn't tainted with "Fatcha" as an excuse. Now under Maggie 2: The Reckoning we've got those places flipping for her? wtf?

We've now got a Tory elected in Glasgow.

Just let that sink in about how a vote collapses so weirdly that Tories get elected in Capital Cyber Nat.

The Tories are also capturing new positions like the Metro Mayoralities, taking West of England, Midlands Metro and fucking Labour-heartland Tee Side.

It all seems to be boiling down to the fact that more and more top flight in the Tory party are taking on a more provincial air, rather than the stench of the metros which hangs around Labour and the Lib Dems still.

And on Radio 4 this morning they were talking about Labour losses in the Welsh Valleys. You know, where back in 84-85 support for the miners' strike was nigh on 100% and where driving a scab to work was punishable by having a concrete road pillar dropped on your car.

I'm sorely tempted on election night to go into the studentiest pub in my nearby large university town (that's not Oxford, Cambridge, or Hull) and get stealth photographs of the poor cosseted manchildren and womanchildren literally shaking at the prospect of a giant Tory majority.

That's super tempting...

But my nearest Uni is Loughborogh (Aka the Olympic Gold Medal Factory) which booted out the N.U.S for its increasingly extremist views.

Vegan Dive Bar. Is there any way of getting more hipsterism into three words? Nice find.
Craft Beer Latte?

My favourite pub tends to have students around on Thursday nights (Quiz night and near the unis) so I might pop in on that night, like I did last time (which was funny.)

Self-preservation is hardly pointless, imo.

I'm 99% sure there was one there last time, I was more surprised to see an islander Tory win a seat today actually. I was amazed the Conservatives even found somebody to stand for them there. I don't know what the share of first preference votes is yet, but I'd put money on the STV system boosting Conservative seats in this election.

Here's an interesting admission from Davidson though:

Now I'm not accusing anybody of attempting to commit electoral fraud (on this election at least), but it's clear she's talking about following the letter of the law instead of the spirit.
Oh and bizarre as it may be, it is true what Nicolson said, that literally none of the Labour or Conservative leaflets mentioned any policy or promises, they were 100% campaigning on opposition to indyref. Which sets the tone for the next election pretty well! A clever way to win votes, however it is a bit of a gamble if the SNP win big at the GE.

Anyone who seriously believes the tories are a threat to their lives in 2017 is living in a state of irrational hysteria.

skye and lochalsh had tories as the second party up until 97. The outer islands have always had an 8-10% tory vote, under PR this is enough for seats. You would have to be quite ignorant of Scotland's historical voting trends to be genuinely surprised by this.
but it's clear she's talking about following the letter of the law instead of the spirit.
What do you mean? she just sounds like every other politician downplaying results that won't be reflected under FPTP in june. I think you might be projecting something here.

Disagree- the leaflets I got through the door were filled with tedious local issues I neither know nor care about. The tories had misspelled theirs though. That was amusing.

mathematically the snp cannot really do significantly better than 2015. It would only be a gamble if the tories had something to lose.

"Strong and Stable" May's catchphrase which is still struggling to cut through to the electorate, expect it repeated verbatim in the coming weeks
