People who didn't like disco music back in the day hated black people, women, or gay people. Also, apparently, people in the 70s thought it was really stupid that "white people" listened to "black people music" and associated black musicians with disco even when that wasn't necessarily true until Michael Jackson and Prince came along. Does anyone know how true any of this is?
I seem to recall today's fiction usually depicts disco as dead and out of style.

TVT being exceptionally autistic as always.

In all fairness, disco itself may have fallen out of favor, but its influence can still be felt in many genres of popular music today.

It's a load of academic horseshit where college professors try and read racism and homophobia or whatever into everything. Clearly my boomer relatives (one had a friend who actually went to Disco Demolition Night) who hated disco back in the day hated it disco because they were secretly racist, never mind they're all fans of musicians like Jimi Hendrix and blues music. They hated it because they thought it was shit music and not like the dad rock they enjoy, and I guarantee the vast majority of the Disco Sucks crowd hated it for that reason too which these writers would too if they ever bothered to talk to any of these boomers without presupposing they're all racists. These college professors have been spewing this shit for years but in today's day and age it gets repeated as fact.

Disco is to the seventies what EDM is to today. Cheap and oversaturated.

Let's go down the list of KKK cross-burners who hate disco. Hunter S. Thompson. Frank Zappa. ...oh.

If I were a real prick, I could point out that Richard Spencer loves electropop.

These are the same people convinced the fidget spinner died out because of "prejudice against special needs kids"
The sad thing is I can totally see that

Also these cocksuckers are unironically using the term 'neurodivergent' when talking about other autists and related disorders. I know its an actual scientific word but when its used by autists its used in a cunty way

I've seen that argument presented in university textbooks, so it's not just a random Tropes sperg. I'm willing to bet the troper has read, bought into, and cited, those texts as well.

Disco was stunning and brave and totally not vapid prolefeed at all. Everyone who disliked it was a Nazi. Also, punk rock was racist, and rock music in general, and presumably country, jazz, blues, and classical too (although iirc the authors forgot about those ones, as they were too busy getting mad at the punk fans who laughed at them in highschool).

I'm not sure if there's been a "reevaluation of disco", or at least not a renewed interest amongst young people, that seems a little suspicious. And I don't think these views are widely accepted by sociologists (not that sociologists are a reliable marker of truthiness in the first place).

But yeah, it's "true" in the sense that career academics have been paid good money to write books arguing this. Now we just have to wait until some brave grad student comes up with "disco was cultural appropriation and any white person who listened to it was guilty of genocide".

Much of the worst disco was from the period even white people were doing it. That stuff sounds really bad and dated. A lot of early disco still holds up, like Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." But no, everything, absolutely fucking everything, is racist. Liking stuff is racist, not liking stuff is racist, not giving a shit about stuff is racist. These fucking people are like a broken record.

Yeah. Zappa called them out in "Dancin' Fool".

Not to mention the Queen of Disco herself. :semperfidelis:

She's singing about cake melting outside, and she's doing it with conviction and clarity.
