I think it's something to do with the IT slaves on the advertisers' end not maintaining their ads because their quarantined. I need to check something, first.

According to their "Appeals to the moderation" thread, Proper Media Enterprises , the company that owns TVT, is experiencing an drop an ad revenue. Consequently, this means less stuff on that site will be fixed by the admins.

Reportedly there was a drop in ad buys because companies have had cratering revenue. This isn't related to TVT, just in general.

Everything I click on shows this. The site is pretty much wiped, all those hours of people throwing in their shitty views and editing pages has gone up in smoke. Brilliant.

I also tried clicking the random trope page button. Just sends me to the home page, which might hint at the home page being the only one still online.

I knew that TV Tropes didn't have the best reputation, but this is some Zaiger levels of incompetency, especially if it turns out that the database was indeed wiped and they didn't keep good backups.

I'm wondering if this was a deliberate attack on the site. Someone probably got sick of the site's continued decline, so they decided to attack the site and wipe all the hours upon hours of autism.
Either that or the staff's incompetence is showing again. I'm guessing it's the latter, since several elements of the site were somewhat broken even before the outage.
 
Well, it's about time for something to happen to this site, if you think about it.

Annnnnnd it turns out that they're just having problems with their servers instead of something newsworthy happening.

They cite hardware failure as the reason it went to shit.

No, everything was not wiped. It's the fucking database (as stated in the above post).

Look here, for example:


I checked to see if it was still up - and it is. Most of the other pages related to the show are up too. I clicked on a lot of the tropes, and many of those are still up too. Out of all the ones that start with the letter A, only one is broken.

Right now, it seems that things have gone back to the way they were this morning. Evidently the site is still erratic.

Admittedly I was browsing the site in private mode on a phone. But if you have that and you switch over to that, you'll see it's still there.

(The trope "The Ace" is also still up on private mode, but the main page is down and so are the forums.)
 
yeah its still down. does this mean the whole site has been reset to zero? or do they have backups?
 
Interestingly enough, both of Geth's sites haven't experienced an spike in activity, except for two autists talking about the Land Before Time movies on Wikia.
