Eh, I can kind of understand the idea of this trope because it is a real phenomenon, although it was more of a thing in the 90's and 2000's than today since nobody really uses the G rating aside from Disney and PG has become the standard "family friendly" rating for most Hollywood movies and that trope is the reason why.
A lot of movie studios would intentionally up the rating of a film by throwing a mild swear or some crude humor on an otherwise G-rated film because PG films tend to sell more tickets since the G Rating did get a "kiddie" reputation by the late 80's/early 90's.
The MPAA in general is a relic of the late 1960's and needs to be either drastically overhauled and reformed or done away with altogether and replaced with a better ratings system.
