It's been touched upon before, but TV Tropes has this weird personality cult centered around Mr. Rogers. I love Rogers, and to be fair, he is far, far, FAAAAAAR more deserving of respect than people like John Enter or Doug Walker, but seriously, they're pretty much deepthroating his corpse with every single sentence they type about him.

My favorite is this part where they imply that nobody is allowed to say anything bad about him, and actively dissuade readers from sperging out at people who do, not because it'd make them look like autistic manchildren, but because "the moderators will deal with them."

It's not okay to say anything bad about Mr. Rogers, but it is okay to abuse one's moderator powers to silence opinions they don't like.

Quite frankly, I think there were a few problems with Rogers' style. He was a great guy, and I did enjoy his show as a kid. However, I think his philosophy of "you've made this day special just by being yourself" potentially did just as much harm as it did good. While his heart was undeniably in the right place, I think that that attitude is why we have a lot of our cows now.

Never saw this show, so I can't say anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if this line of thought leads to the "you've won just for being you/participating" mentality that leads to all the spoiled millennial/SJWs who want pats just because they exist.

I have, and I think I can explain the cult like shit they have around the guy.

Much like their obsession with Z-list internet attention whores and pop culture, they did to him like they did every else they turn into a site fandom: They fetishized what he meant for young children to apply to themselves to a cult-like extreme.

Fred Rogers was a fundamentally decent man who simply wanted to be a good example to children. Manchildren, unfortunately, took what was intended for children and applied to themselves in the most self serving manner possible, and his attempts to give children a wholesome and moral message about how they were all special and how they should just be themselves and perverted it into a justification for special snowflakeism.

As for how they've turned him into an object of adoration, it fills me and I'm sure it would Rogers with horror. Fred Rogers was a very devout Presbyterian (and was ordained as a minister) and he considered himself a servant whose work should glorify God, and to be considered a deity like figure like how TV Tropes has portrayed him would have sickened the man.

He would have detested the shrieking hordes of SJW moonbats who consistently act in an utterly hateful, selfish manner.

I posted it in the thread before, but there was also REEEing over someone calling Bill Nye a glue-sniffing Mr. Rogers after Bill Nye Saves the World came out, complete with the troper who wrote that section having absolutely no reading comprehension and thinking that was an insult towards Mr. Rogers instead of Bill Nye.

  • And, of course, the fanbase. Either all small kids with poorly-made self-insert "OC's" with a knack for dirty or cringey fanfiction OR a bunch of obsessed manchildren who think every tiny change has ruined their beloved franchise. No, you're not allowed to imagine a perfectly normal, perfectly reasonable Sonic fan who just likes Sonic. As far as the internet is concerned, they don't existnote . "Fans" like Chris-Chan don't exactly help that stereotype.
Are they implying Chris-Chan isn't a real Sonic fan because he happens to represent the worst parts of the already awful fandom. What a cool case of "No True Scotsman", TV Tropes.

I never really got the praise that Channel Awesome gets on Tvtropes.I mean there are plenty of other reviewers online who don't get that level of attention.Maybe Doug Walker and his annoying style of unfunny jokes and over the top pretend anger at some half forgotten 90's bad movie is something they identify with.Doug is not really funny and he is kind of annoying so i never got the fandom that he has.Who are these people?
