Why is this even on the "Author's Appeal" page?!?!?!

Paul "Triple H" Levesque seems to be a real life Amazon Chaser. He dated Chyna for years, and now he's got Stephanie McMahon (who was never particularly fit before) working out heavily and making workout tapes with him. This also shows up in a lot of the promotional footage for the women of NXT - they're much more likely to show videos of the women doing squats and chin-ups in the gym instead of wandering around the beach in bikinis.

Tropers scared of Barney the Dinosaur...

  • Nightmare Fuel: The Barney theme song...BACKWARDS.
    • To some, the original Barney costume from the Backyard Gang videos looked pretty creepy. Particularly, in the first three videos, in which he was dark purple, skinny, had giant eyes, and a red mouth.
    • The end of the Backyard Gang video "Waiting For Santa", with Santa looking at the camera and whispering almost menacingly "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"
    • According to several Youtube comments, many children were scared by the bear in "Barney's Campfire Singalong" due to the sheer Uncanny Valley factor of his appearance and because he appears out of the darkness of the woods.
    • There's also the winking baseball during "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" in "Three Wishes".
    • There's also the donkey at the end of "Rock With Barney". From its heart-freezing braying to its creepy wink to the camera. Winnie the Pooh, eat your heart out.
      • As if that wasn't enough, it re-appears at the end of the credits and winks again.
    • Some of the endings with the Barney doll winking are very creepy as well, mainly from season 2, which, unlike most seasons, had the camera pan up very close to Barney's face in a several episodes. To top it all off, any episode from this season (except for "A Very Special Delivery") that ends in the classroom usually has one of the kids turning off the lights, adding more to the creepy effect of Barney's winks. (Season 3 also had those two treatments as well, but they were done a lot more tamer). Notable examples from season 2 include "The Dentist Makes Me Smile", "Grown-Ups for a Day", and "Having Tens of Fun". The creepiest ending from this season, however, has to be from "May I Help You?", which follows very similarly to the "Rock with Barney" donkey ending (i.e. a much quicker pan-up to his face than usual).
    • Also counts for the wide-eyed stare of the 1st season's Barney doll, unless you'd prefer that over season 2. (Unlike season 2, at least the endings consisted of a slow pan to the purple guy, rather than fading or cutting right to him, therefore, allowing us viewers more time to react until it's over.)

And, as a bonus, an edgy Barney fanfic.

Why are they so focused on seduction? They all have jobs, spouses and social lives, right? Right?

Difference in the AOC (Age of Consent) in relation to female anime characters have also caused some cultural shock among Western Audiences since the 90s. In Japan, the minimal age of consent for a Japanese girl is 13 (though all provinces have laws that counter the national AOC and up it to at minimum 16), and anything above that is fair play. Heck, in Japan, girls can already get married at the age of 16 (though recently this act has been frowned upon by modern Japanese society). And since Japanese AOC's minimum is 13, there'll be a lot of "underaged" school girls wearing painfully sexy short skirts (with emphasis on legs), tight blouses, long socks or stockings, School Sport Uniform, and off course School Swimsuit(see Joshikousei). Fanservices are occasionally put up to placate viewers who have fetishes on these objects. Worst case scenario happens when these underage schoolgirls are treated to malicious and perverted incidents, even rape. Of course, for the Japanese, these are all normal. They don't see these characters as being sexualized or anything, they just think they're cute.
  • Its most famous and well-talked about example is Sailor Moon when it first aired in the West during the 90s. The show's emphasis on female sexuality and fanservices were particularly loved by male audiences. However, things went downhill when Western viewers learned that many of the female characters whom they have been jacking off to were in their teens. The main character, Sailor Moon, who was given so much visual focus, was 14(!). It caused an uproar in America at that time, and networks broadcasting the show changed Sailor Moon's age from 14 to 16, and made some frowned upon changes in its format as well.
  • Strongly related to this are the ideas of Loli and Shota, since in Japan, cuteness and innocence combined with a small but still noticable amount of sex appeal is a strong selling point due to the fact that the Japanese prefer adorable, youthful looks rather than sexiness (say, like in America). Also playing into the appeal of young looks is the fact that many Japanese have very low chances of ever having a family and children as well as the population getting constantly older due to record-low birthrates, so the masses also start looking older and older and thus finding a viable, healthy partner to start a family with becomes even harder. Thus it's no wonder why young boys and girls in Japanese media are so popular, like many things in fiction they act as a good enough surrogate for the real thing.
  • In another form of dissonance, America tends to react more harshly to this than other Western countries, as due to SoCalization most media treats the age of consent over there as 18, while several other Western countries (and some other US states) have it at 16, and find it very strange that America reacts so objectionably to sexualization of teenagers.
  • The age of consent is however also changing in the Western world as well.Belgium for instance has decreased its age of consent from 16 to 14 (keep in mind that those in between 14-15 still only can have consent with those in between 14-18) because they felt that their new growing nation of children already developed sexual feelings at a very young age (whether it is hormones in water or better life conditions is left to interpretation).

So much justification for fapping to kids, oh my God.

I thought paedophilia wasn't accepted in Japan and lolicons were treated the same there as they are in the West.

Weebs have generally warped, retarded ideas about Japan, both exaggerating its virtues and attributing their own creepy perversions to it.

Japan has slightly different societal views on child nudity and gentials to some extent. For example, it wouldn't be unheard of for a young child character in a manga to be portrayed as bathing nude with family or if he/she was particularly rebellious and ran around the house naked. In the first case, it's simply how bathing works in Japan, with family members (father-son, mother-daughter, young siblings) often sharing a bath to save on water. In the second, it's seen as innocent horseplay.

Japanese children's media also makes reference to cultural concepts that wouldn't fly in the US, such as the tanuki and their large testicles. (There's seriously a children's song about that.)

When brought out of cultural context, those situations can be determined by pedophiles as erotic and fuel this image of being okay with child sexuality amongst uneducated weeaboos, but it'd be like saying having a picture of your two year old daughter in the bath is possession of child pornography.

I'm not saying there aren't pedophiles or a market for products featuring overtly sexualized children, but they make up a very small percentage of Japanese society and is a tiny part of the Japanese pornographic industry.

While the "legal" age established by the Japanese national government is 13, every prefecture has a minimum age of 16 or higher. That national age is to make sure that prefectures can't go below that age and also to protect non-citizen minors from abuse if it occurs within Japanese borders.

Japan has a lot of fucked up shit for sure, but they're harsh against pedophiles who cross the line from 2D to real life.

That's a lot of word vomit for "It's okay for me to fap to 13 year olds, really!"

If they really wanted "cuteness" or an innocent look, why not just go for a younger looking but still of age partner?

There's already ton of anime and games that just straight-up draw a barely pubescent character and then tack on "...but she's really 18 I swear!". Hell, one of the very shows that caused a giant flame war during the anti-pedo crusade was about a succubus that physically stopped aging at about 12, but was technically legal. If fapping to 13-year-olds was actually as socially acceptable as these people want to believe, writers would have no need to use all these loopholes.

But hey, who would expect a website called TV Tropes to actually analyze tropes on television?
