Sounds like the Live Aid concert didn't do jack shit then. Who wouldda thunk??
Live Aid was ostensibly to help the Ethiopian famine caused by a civil war with rebels resisting communism on the other side of the continent. That's like confusing Portugal and Armenia.

In practice Mengistu pocketed some of the aid money to support his forces in the civil war, so it wasn't a great success.

You could argue that these concerts at least helped focus attention on famines in general. Its not like anyone really cared about the famine before these concerts. It didn't do much in practice but bringing attention is still better than nothing. Its not like your average politician in any mildly developed country cared. And it did lay the groundwork for a more proactive approach to preventing famines in the future by making it clear that if/when a famine breaks out odds are good there will be some grasroots pressure. It did help in making famines harder to completely ignore.

On an unrelated note its funny how tropers still include in the 'Harsher' category actors dying of natural causes or causes unrelated to whatever they did in their career. I'll admit it the cast of Babylon 5 has been somewhat less lucky than the cast of Trek(Shatner has managed to live into extreme old age the TNG cast is still going strong) but still kind of weird to include in the Harsher category actors dying of common events.

Not when it's at the cost of funding the very military dictatorship which was deliberately causing the famine in the first place, propping up the government and allowing it to murder even more people.
tl;dr to this, Live Aid not only didn't help, it actually made things worse. Bob Geldof wasn't innocently ignorant of this, he was told. But for his ego he went ahead anyway, probably diverting money into his harmful meddling and away from people who could have actually helped in some way. A lot of the money raising was by shaming and bullying other musicians into contributing to his scam. In short, Bob Geldof is a fucking prick.

Tv tropes is a powder keg sooner or later either the mods will get caught up in some sex offender scandal or eventuallly a particularly unfair ban will be the straw that breaks the camels back
Either that or it gets an mass exodus of the (relatively) sane users and the site becomes a bigger hugbox than the Animal Crossing community.

Mass exodus to ATT or the crazy people splitting off to form another site while the sane people stay (like what happened to resetera) are the most likely option (when I say sane I’m speaking in relative terms. The majority of the sites userbase are autistic to some degree even if just slightly)

Well the site's already lost a massive amount of goodwill with most of the web since its peak (roughly 2011-ish)

It's been prophesied since Genesis. It is an inevitability that cannot be averted.

No site is perfectly squeaky clean, and I imagine the kind of crap going on unseen is par for the course. However, there is an underlying pattern where autistic degenerates congregate, only to be neck deep in so much blackmail material that I'm surprised TVT isn't in a watchlist (or, is it?).

Unlike here, where we embrace our degeneracy and draw strength from it. :story:

The big issue is that ATT doesn't have a forum, and with TV Tropes, you had the wiki itself on one side and the forum on the other. Before 2013, they were largely two separate communities with only occasional overlap but have become more intertwined as time went.

So, the ones who just want to be troper wiki spergs, I could see them going to All The Tropes but someone would probably have to make a forum or god forbid, a subreddit for that crowd.

For some reason, there's an clause in their forum rules that specifically says that starting an erotic role playing session with a minor is a bannable offense. Makes you wonder what went on.

And yes, there's an Reddit for TVT and ATT (ran by Geth). The Drunkard's Walk is a forum that his admins run. And both Wikia and Miraheze have their version of forums...which are stereotypically uninteresting across the network.

Dude, I read fanfiction (the really good kind) as a hobby and to pass the time. You know how to take a peak at the reviews on the quality before diving in? To my chagrin, a trope is almost always referenced.

Word for word.

I used to do that, too (before it became the chimeric inbred hick relative of wikipedia's) but nowadays, I can't stand it. I ignore those kinds of reviews, because wouldn't you know it, they're normally dumb, out of touch, autistic, or worse. Like, adding in an OC, ship the most gay ass or nonce pairing imaginable, and bitching about the author "not following canon".

However, there is that rare kind of fanfic that outright references a trope. I drop them immediately because it's symptomatic that it's going to be a spedfest.

Has ATT gone the way of the sped, yet?

On Wikia, Geth had banned a guy who was posting porn on there, several times. He also threw an hissy fit and jumped ship on Miraheze over that Cuties movie, but he's been reinstated a few weeks ago. In fact, the Miraheze branch has a history of admin slapfighting.

Hang on, you mean he jumped ship because he condemned Cuties, or...?
