Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump announced Thursday the official establishment of the US military's Space Command.

"Those who wish to harm the United States, to seek to challenge us on the ultimate high ground of space, it's going to be a whole different ballgame," Trump said at a White House ceremony marking the command's establishment.

Space Command will become the 11th combatant command, joining the ranks of US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East, and US Special Operations Command, which oversees Special Operations Forces.

The command will initially consist of just 287 personnel and its final location has yet to be determined. Its responsibilities will be transferred primarily from US Strategic Command.

The command's establishment comes as the US has grown increasingly concerned about threats to its satellites, which are critical to military operations and commercial business.

"We no longer have the luxury of treating space superiority as a given," Air Force Gen. John Raymond, the incoming US Space Command commander, told reporters at the Pentagon on Thursday.

"There is a growing threat. The scope, scale and complexity is concerning," Raymond said, adding that "there's reversible jamming of GPS communication satellites. There's directed energy threats. There's missiles that can be shot from the ground and blow up a satellite, like was demonstrated by China in 2007. So there's a full spectrum. We're concerned about all of those threats."

While the command's establishment has received broad support, Trump also spoke Thursday about the creation of a US Space Force, a military branch his administration wants to see established under the Department of the Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps sits under the Department of the Navy.

Space Command "will soon be followed -- very importantly -- by the establishment of the United States Space Force as the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces," Trump said, adding that the Space Force will "organize, train and equip warriors to support Space Command's mission."
It's official now. United States Space Command or The Space Force is now our newest branch of the military. Here's their website https://www.spacecom.mil/

Not gonna lie I disagree with Orange Man about a lot of things but this is actually a really good idea. Most likely will be beneficial to us in the long run.

I never thought about it before, but if we find intelligence out there, why should we care if it is life or not?
For centuries, mankind has been asking if we were alone in the universe. If one day, a future civilization finds weird symbols or carvings on a planet or a structure or strange signals that aren't coming from a natural source, then it would be proof of life or at least "something" that isn't us. It would be interesting to see if we will still have religions and how they will react to that discovery.

Mass terrorism and the collapse of civilization. The defining traits of humanity are cowardice and hatred and learning that our gods are fake is not going to help matters.

Primarily cowardice. Hatred takes some level of intestinal fortitude.

Now that Space Com is it's own "branch", will they get their own shitty digital camo pattern that doesn't blend in with anything?

Trump is gonna build a wall around Earth next to prevent illegal space aliens from going here

USMC digis are actually really good camouflage. Then every other service wanted their own, and were more concerned with not looking like Johnny Come Lately than with doing the R&D that went into the first pattern

EDIT: Heh, I just remembered the ridiculous rumor that the blue navy digis would turn orange when they touched salt water so.that sailors could be rescued at sea. Ey there smart guy, what do you think we wash our clothes in when we're under way?

Sure, Marpat is effective, but Space Com is the Latest-Johnny-Comer so they'll get something even worse. Black ACU's with white sparkles, to represent space.

Theres6 no reason they couldn't wear good old fashioned federal blue.

Camouflage makes zero sense for people not trying to hide. It breaks up outlines by design, while a uniform worn to impress rather than conceal should distinguish and improve on the form of its wearer.

Yeah, if you don't want camouflage, wolf grey or coyote brown could work well.

I'm glad the space patrol is aiming to fight for justice on a space-level scale!
It'll come in handy once we start having to import spacemen, even moreso if that massive asteroid coming in 9 years or so decides it wants to fuck up earth or the moon.
