He tried the same tactic with the CNBC debate. Didn't happen, and he still showed up.
Even so, I'm still just so disappointed to see the number of people going "Trump's such a great person for wanting to donate to the vets! CNN is part of the liberal socialist agenda while Trump is just telling it like it is!"
All I can say is that if Trump is rich, why want $5 mil?
Exactly.
Personally, I don't believe a word, even if it wasn't for @VLAD pointing out he's pulled it before. It makes him look good, and people will be so blinded by the words "donate to military vets" that they won't even bring up that little detail. And in fact, a good number of comments I've seen says that it's working.

I seriously do not know his policy on things that matter. What is his stance on military spending, financial market reform, social insurance (SS/MEDI) and national cybersecurity? I am lost on his stance on employment law. Other than being America's drunk uncle at Thanksgiving dinner, what is endearing?

His stance on those issues is that they're very important issues, but he's going to build a wall to keep the illegals out. And Mexico's gonna pay for it. It's gonna be YUGE.

True but also note supposedly. Wouldn't that imply he might not really donate it? Either way, he could just donate out of his own money rather than ask for $5 million from CNN.

He doesn't really have that much money. Sure he could afford it, but it would actually be a hit.

Unlike if he was actually a billionaire.

Keep on talking, Trump. I need something to laugh at. So why do I fear HE WILL be our next President? THAT - is NOT something I can laugh at, honestly.

What's this? TWO smear attempts but already concluded with Trump further and further up?

The "disabled reporter thing." What? That was three weeks ago already? The "Muslims cheering on 9/11?" The media made their biggest mistake so far by calling him a liar. That's exactly want Trump wanted. He's making the media keep such subjects in the spotlight.

This is the best election cycle of my life.

People are generally uninformed about politics. The only reason why people are interested in Trump is because 1) He's known, 2) He gets constant coverage by the major networks because he brings in ratings 3) He has George W. Bush-style charisma, which is to say, "He's a guy I could have a drink with." 4) He's a caricature of a human being, and people love entertainment.

I don't think he has a chance. He's just a troll.

Nobody knows his stances because he has no serious stances. That's the whole principle behind this type of populism, he just makes vague statements which he thinks will resonate with his target demographic (Take care of veterans, GET TOUGH on ISIS, "Build up that wall!" etc).
It's utterly ludicrous to see Trump and his followers attack "croney capitalism" and corruption when that's exactly what Trumps "self made" empire is based on. I'd think it was funny if it wasn't so depressing.
But these things won't significantly impact his popularity, it's the Berlusconi effect, where he can do just about anything and be however corrupt he wants and still garner support by being perceived as a virile maverick with entrepreneurial spirit (money and power don't hurt either). These people are sociopaths and only look out for their own interests, in other circumstances they could just as easily be mob bosses as businessmen or politicians.
Let's just hope all the columnists are right in that he's still unlikely to become the Republican candidate and even less president.
I mean look at this shit and tell me we're not living in some sort of nightmarish satirical cartoon dimension:
