Guess I'll bump an old thread because this still seems to be THE official true crime thread.

Anyone else here into true crime books? I really like Jack & Gregg Olsen, Ann Rule, Kathryn Casey and some others. I've especially come to enjoy listening to TC books in audio format - if you enjoy being creeped out, they're nice to listen to as you (try to) fall asleep.
Ann Rule's famous book on Ted Bundy is one of my favorites, when you realize even someone who is sort of an expert in the field could have social interaction with one of these monsters and he put on enough of a facade to pass as normal. Ramsland is also good.

Robert K. Ressler's book on Bundy (Whoever Hunts Monsters) is also one of the best. You probably know he was one of the pioneers of behavioral profiling as an FBI agent with the Behavioral Science Unit.

A lot of the people who interview these evil fuckers get completely suckered by them, though. They literally think they were the best interviewers ever and somehow got the psycho to be truthful, when that's impossible.

Yeah, looking at the interviews of serial killers the whole lot of them seem like 100% bullshit artists. I don't think they're even honest with themselves.

I actually prefer reading about non-serial murderers. There's some interesting characters and absolutely insane true stories.

gonna try revive this thread because there's a bunch of good true-crime content

dreading uploaded again, this time the infamous chris watts case

also, if you haven't checked out manic cadence yet, i highly recommend it. small time youtuber and his style is fantastic (not neutered yet). the timothy mcveigh vid is a good place to start

i nooooticed thatchapter and coffeehousecrime were posted previously - they're good entry-level channels IMO but they're also very watered down. thatchapter has even been putting soyfaces in the thumbnails, it's a bit cringe

here's a list of more stuff to check out:
matt orchard basically a JCS replacement
killer chronicles gang focused
pandox better edited, longform video essay type
haunted autopsy - bonus! he made a video on the couchcuck who has an account here, but i can't link him because tor is being gay. @FuckYou found ya bitch.

I love her book on Diane Downs.

What is everyone's thoughts on Brandon Swanson? He's the guy who crashed his car in 2008 and got stuck.. called his dad and they went to get him and the last thing they heard was "oh shit"
One theory is that he was accidentally shot by farmer for trespassing and the farmers refuse to corporate with the police.

One theory is that he was accidentally shot by farmer for trespassing and the farmers refuse to corporate with the police.

Theory: he fell into a stream or hurt his foot/fell in an animal burrow or similar. Then, he was unconscious or asleep in a field, and was run over by farm machinery (it’s very difficult to see directly under you in such large machines).

True crime that really bothers me…North Korea’s state-sponsored kidnapping of foreign citizens for their skills (language and cultural teaching of spies, advanced science or math, or as wives for foreign defectors or other victims).

Usually happens in Japan or Eastern Europe, but can possibly happen in any country with an NK embassy or presence (recorded also in Jordan, Lebanon, Denmark, and Russia). Sometimes they’re known to lure or trick people to come to certain places where they can then be taken. They use diplomatic privileges to commit crimes such as drug trafficking, etc., as stuff belonging to diplomats isn’t searched.

In 1977, they took a 13-year-old from coastal Japan. They like to get people young if possible. That was confirmed to have happened, as NK is said to have admitted it and returned her remains.

Which leads me to the case of Andrew Gosden. 14 year old went to London alone, no return ticket, didn’t take much with him. He was extremely smart, especially re: math, and got some publicity for that. Disappeared from King’s Cross station.

Which is eight miles from the NK embassy and right off the subway stop. I’m not saying Andrew was lured to London by shadowy operatives, or that my theory has any real weight, but it’s possible some agent abroad heard of a young math genius and they decided to go for him, because that’s what they did to that poor girl in the 70s.

Give me puzzle pieces. But they’re said to still be doing this awful practice. Just a couple people a year, but it’s possible.

As far as channels I actually enjoy, Matt Orchard is the GOAT, dreading is alright but sometimes he gets a little spergy, and may allah forgive me... That Chapter makes me laugh sometimes

I was looking a little bit into Chris Watts who murdered his wife and their kids back in 2018.
I didn't pay much attention to it when it happened, other than to watch the video where the neighbor shows the security cam footage to the cop and Chris is right there sweating bullets. I remember thinking that this guy is an idiot whose lying skills are equal to about a six year old.

Anyway, I started looking a bit more at the wife, Shanann.
The more I saw of her videos and internet posts the more I became convinced that this woman was an asshole.
I had schoolmates that had moms like her. They came out damaged af.
The thing where the oldest daughter wanted to have long hair and Shanann keeps cutting it short all the while acting like she wasn't the sole reason the kid had short hair? wtf?

I may look into it a bit more, but so far it's like, dumbass husband kills asshole wife, innocent kids also die.
And? Their house is not to my taste and is therefore ugly and I judge them for it. https://archive.ph/LTJIK

Seeing Chris realise his hand was caught in the cookie jar was really something. The cops know he's guilty. The neighbors know he's guilty. And Chris just can't hide his guilt.

I don't know if you are male or female so I don't know what place of experience you might be coming from, but I had really long hair as a small child at my mother's insistence. The morning comb out was hell on Earth. My hair got cut because of a lice scare at school. Back then they thought cutting your hair made it better (it does nothing). Mornings were suddenly a lot less stressful for awhile. Bella was only four. I can understand not wanting to deal with a four year old's tangled hair. I haven't read the posts about Bella's hair. I assumed her hair was short because she was very young and wrangling a preschooler's hair is a tough job when you are busy with everything else.

I was a kid with thick curly hair and a mother who had no clue what to do with it, so I get that.
I don't get the feeling that Shanann did the kids' hair that way to be efficient, I can't think at the moment why. I watched a yt where it was implied that she was trying to make the kids look sick for pity points or whatever, but idk.

I also saw a thing where it seemed that she would put the kids to bed at 6:30 pm and they slept for 12 hours? Then they had a nap from 12-3? Um. Kids don't work like that. I'm hoping that is wrong info.

From everything I read, Shannan was a mess. Deep into MLMs, financially ruined. More into appearances than actual substance. (Her dining room furniture was repossessed. They couldn’t even pay the HOA fees. Her basement was full of unsold MLM product so she could maintain her level. Went on vacations when she couldn’t even afford shampoo.)

She may have had munchie by proxy tendencies. Claimed the kids had Mediterranean familial fever and often took rectal temps. She didn’t have a job - except draining money with MLMs … and still stuck both kids in very expensive preschool full time.

IMO, Chris was fucking moron for being so hands off the finances. And once he realized he was broke. Like, broke broke. He probably felt even more trapped and hopeless.

“Still not an excuse to murder a whole family.” OBVIOUSLY. No one is claiming she deserved it. But damn, the woman was a MESS. She had lolcow tendencies.

I was looking into this too recently and I'm really interested in the girl that Chris was having an affair with, she looked up Shannon and Chris a year before the murders and all kinda shit. Watching her being interrogated was pretty wild since every few minutes she had to change her story. I guess they got her to testify against him to save her own ass or something. But it makes me wonder if he didn't have her would he have killed his family? And yea Shannon really seemed like a fucking mess, Chris should have maned up and told her you wanna spend money on MLM bullshit get a job bitch. It seemed like he had a great job to me so they shouldn't have been broke broke broke. Maybe not putting your kids in the most expensive schools when one parent is paying all the bills and shit might have helped

I can see where Nicole Kessinger would look like an upgrade from Shanann.
No MLMs, she had a real job, no kids to spend money on...
And yeah, she absolutely had more to do with things than she wants to admit. Don't know if she helped plan or anything, but I feel like she knew.

Annie Elise did a few videos on her and uncovered some pretty eyebrow raising stuff. That being said, Annie Elise’s “HEY TRUE CRIME BESTIES” makes me cringe to death

Podcasters who can't keep their emotions out of things need to get another gig.
Even That Chapter, who I adore, does it sometimes. Irritating.

As for the Watts case, I wish everyone out there would realize that a person can do some shady shit and also be a crime victim.
Some folks seem to think that if they put enough glory on her name, Shanann Watts will come back to life and marry them. It ain't happening, losers. Calm down.

IMO Chris Watts never expected the police to actually do their jobs and look for his family. He seemed to think that he could just casually report them missing, hand-wave any questions and that'd be that, new life here he comes!
When he's on the porch giving an interview and he says "This has got to stop" I think he meant all the attention from cops, reporters, etc. He had already discarded his wife and kids, he was ready to move on.

Never forget - MLMs are horrible and should be avoided. They might not make someone a murder victim but they do indicate that a person is an idiot and probably annoying af.

Does anyone happen to know where Ezequiel Zayas is incarcerated right now? I assume he's in Hawaii, but I can't find a way to look him up the way we could look up Chris Chan when he was in jail.

Zayas is the nutjob who wanted to perform sex change and other surgeries on a family, and lived in their house while they were away. Later he vandalized a Buddhist shrine and while in jail he murdered a cell mate.

Also if there's a better place to ask this question, let me know please.

He would have been caught anyways since his plan was idiotic and Shannan had a lot of people who cared about her and her daughters, but if Nicole hadn’t gone to her house that morning after realizing right away that her friend, who was 4 months pregnant and distressed about her marriage, had missed her gynecology appointment that morning and wasn’t responding to Nicole’s phone calls and texts, Chris wouldn’t have been incriminated as soon as he did. She’s the one who got the ball rolling on the case and made him look like the absolute fool he was on the police recording in the house. Completely threw a money wrench into his plans and it’s incredible to witness in real time.

Everyone should have a friend like Nicole, or be the Nicole of their friend’s lives.
