Nothings wrong with how the hips move. They've shown on video however that they need better ratchets. Shouldn't be hard though to make some new ones on a 3d printer or take a preexisting ratchet set and transfer it over. Not only can they not hold the legs up if you lift him a certain way, they seem to have few notches in them.

They've been saying they were going to cut more job since July. It's just the useless departments and oversea offices getting the cut. They should have gutted WotC for a fire sale so they can sell the IP's since they talk about doing it every other year as it makes no money for them. Like WotC doesn't need so many people working for them just to push out a few cards and books every year.

They need to dump Disney/Marvel/Star Wars. I've heard they're getting a real raw deal on that. And they've admitted they raise prices on Transformers to make up for it.
Hasbro's line for The Marvels consists of only three figures. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come. I think Disney is forcing Hasbro to make all these toys to advertise the movies, but Star Wars/MCU movies aren't the massive smash-hit events they were a few years ago, so they don't need massive toylines.

Yeah, no.
What? Do you think they make all of their money on Transformers and boardgames? lol. Majority of their money comes from licensing agreements for things like Marvel and other Disney properties, even their Fortnite figures now. Not their in house IP's. They wouldn't be the company they are today if they only relied on their own IP's.

Does anyone know the details of the contract that hasbro has with takara-tomy? I know TT has exclusive rights to design and produces the transformers, but I've also seen cheapo flip-formers on sale here and there and I can't imagine those being designed anywhere other than a chinese sweatshop. Is the clause that the spring action doesn't count as a transformation gimmick in the eyes of the patent office and thus hasbro can throw those out on the cheap without having to split profits with TT?

Depends on the figure, some are designed by both parties some aren't. Masterpiece figures are almost universally design by Takara. In terms of transforming figures, Hasbro nor Takara have the patent for that. They (Hasbro) did own the patent for the design back during G1 but that can be hard to look up as it was inconsistent.
List of when it was patented and it's designer

Not sure what the deal is with the flip Transformers and the other cheap figures as I don't know where else they're sold other than China and the deal they have there and in the West.

Merry (belated) christmas! Forgot to post in this thread yesterday and the day before, but long story short is I got around $50 from my extended family in the mail for christmasearlierthis week, and it eventually ended up being used at a Walmart that had those black friday 2 packs of figures. Distribution/stock is so shit and crazy on transformers that there were simultaneously shit like Legacy Elita and Tarantulus single packed for the insane fucking bloated current msrp of $26-27 dollars and then right next to them were the unsold black friday packs that were $25 each for a pack that contained both Elita and Tarantulus. I'm genuinely glad I waited on getting a lot of the earlier legacy wave stuff though I couldn't have predicted I'd actually encounter it for an actually decent price point.

Anyways, my point is now I've got 3 of the 2 packs they putout for black friday , which are as follows:

*Wild Rider & Knockout

*Beast wars Tarantulus & legacy Elita 1

*Prime Arcee & kickback

I'll post pics later, too lazy to take them right now.

There's like 3 or 4other 2 packs they put out and it's weird they aren't random but always specific ones given the packs are just figures in their standard boxes shrinkwrapped together. I didn't really want Prime Arcee and would have preferred some shit like the G2 laser cycle Jazz remake that looks like he pissed himself that uses the same mold, but it was more of a bonus at that point. If any of you guys have a walmart near you and are interested in any of these figures I'd suggest you check them before resellers inevitably hawk them to squat on them and charge over $50 on ebay whether people buy them or not for the next century. 3 of the 4 deluxe stunticons are in these packs and each one is packed with a different equally cool figure. There's one 2 pack I didn't see anywhere that's studio series 86 Jazz and Gnaw and I really wish the places by me had that shit because I've been kinda interested in those ones since I saw them.

Double posting because I can't edit my previous post. Did the math and I got 11 or so transformer figures this christmas from the combo of the discount packs I got using gift money and the Target 4 pack that was paid for partly by a family member months ago. Way too many figures to get in such a short time for my usual comfort zone, but they'd have been a lot more expensive if I had gotten them any other time before or after this unusual sweet spot with the current prices of everything ever.
Anyways, I've got some thoughts about some of them I feel like sharing in this thread, as well as some pics taken with the cardboard from the 4 pack as a makeshift background because I still don't have a designated "photogenic figure picture taking spot" after all this time. Technically could just take pics on the floor of the house or something but I don't feel that'd end well given my weird luck. I'm half awake and in a rambling ass kind of mood so I'll probably spoiler each textmound after this one to save people's eyes a bit of strain.

Let's start with one of my most sought after figures this year after I found out it was coming out: AUTO TROOPER
autorooper.JPG
This one's a weird one. It's supposed to be the Animated series security troopers from the background shots on cybertron but it's just a repaint of Siege Ironhide, possibly due to the guys from Animated being Ironhide retools that were locked behind convention exclusivity for some reason. Thing is they have extremely different proportions, even stranger is the fact it comes with an alternate head that's the Non-animated head (which is why I got it). See, back when i was like 13 or some shit, the original version of this guy came out right before the Michael Bay movies came out. Only in japan though, which I don't live in. However a number of local hobby shops and independent toy stores had him imported. I don't remember if i got him or not but I'd need to dig through old boxes in the basement to find out.

ANYWAYS it's kind of special to me for the weird memories I got tied to it and me finding the original concept of them being reverse engineered human built transformers pretty cool. They also had a cool pun name that looked weird on paper butif you said it out loud it made more sense. I'm kinda glad I'm an outsider to the "transformers community" despite being a big fan because the same people who go on and on about gendershit in transfomers will act like the kinda sloppy first attempt at making a "dark and mature" transformers series in japan is somehow the most disgusting and vile thing to exist because the malformed megatron clones have vaguely phallic looking venom toungues. I remember still back when it came out people that somehow managed to follow the thing's reaction was either "it's kind of lame in execution" or "It's got cool concepts but is kinda weird and gross but intentionally so". Nowadays every page or video mentioning about it makes a 10 minute tirade disavowing it's existence in a way that feels extremely fake and performative rather than coming from any actual place of naturally formed opinion.

I kind of wish they used the Knockout Jazz remold for this instead of Ironhide as the original one back in the day was a Jazz retool. I'd get the original used if I could, but like the Japanese release of Armada Demolishor who's only difference is his face is brown instead of black and his back has a brown square instead of a triangle, there's like 0 used listings of him on ebay for some fucking reason. It's all 120 dollar "new in box" ones that have the kinda uncomfortable anime artwork of kremzeek going between the human partner kid's legs instead of the usual 30-40 dollar listings for all the other alternators, even the japan only ones.back to this specific figure though. The original style head fits the Ironhide body way more than the default animated style one which is kinda baffling given it's supposed to be "animated universe auto trooper" and not "g1 universe autorooper". I just wish he came with the traffic cone gun, or just any guns in general instead of the Seige Ironhide Bazooka. The guns in this photo were stolen from a Different figure that I gave the ironhide Bazooka to, which is up next.

ELITA 1
elita.JPG
This mold's already been retooled into 3 or 4 different characters and I didn't get any of them. I got this due to it being discounted, and though my copy has weirdly loose joints I gotta say it's a lot better looking in person than in stock photos. Weirdly it looks better mis-transformed with the car slab just being intact rather then split into taller shoulder pylons. Simultaneously better looking is Ironhide's bazooka as her gun instead of the energon charged guns she came with. Her smaller size and slightly better articulated arms means she can hold the handle thing properly with both hands instead of just awkwardly holding one handle. Both this elita and the one from a few years ago that was a walmart exclusive inexplicably had a lot of Megatron-esque features, and apparently share neck and leg joint tooling. If they really wanted to they could make some kind of obscure megatron homage using this figure with the earlier Elita's head probably, though they never will.

Despite supposedly being g1, neither this one or the Netflix one are really accurate to the g1 appearance, though both kind of have mild improvements IMO in terms of character aesthetic. The Netflix one specifically uses a slightly retooled variant of an infamously shit figure and suffers severely as a result, but the use of that dark tan color I haven't really seen used since the US release of Armada Nemesis prime was a good choice and I kinda hope to see it on more transformers figures again in the future. Color choice and headsculpt here is a bit closer to g1 elita but the body is pretty off and a bit more Megatron-y as I've stated earlier, but it's also kinda made "cute" in about as much of a robot with guns that turns into a car can be made without fully going arcee/chromia territory. It gives me vibes similar to Legacy Prime Arcee where they intended to just use it for a bunch of generic characters or homages to weird shit like the tiny g2 "gobot megatron" that's just a repaint of a carformer but so far it's only been used for 3 very specific characters instead of what happened prime arcee where "every bike character save for the weaponizers and junkions now use this mold". I'm very tempted to try getting into custom figure painting when it comes to shit like this figure having blatant elements from several other characters in it's design. The one big gripe I have with this figure other than the loose joints on mine is the ankle tilt being a soft ratchet with like only 2 or 3 positions. I had to cheat it to get the natural-ish looking "holding BFG while walking" kind of pose in the photo I took.

CYBERTRONIAN TROOPER
cybertronian trooper.JPG
This one confuses me. It looks fine, but the head is scaled like a voyager and it shows. I never managed to get skullgrin and upon taking this guy out of the package and putting him into robot mode I see why everyone that's handled this figure fucking hates this transformation. It's fiddly, loose, and somehow way too tight in the areas that require the rubberized parts. This guy's based on some of Jhiaxus' troops that showed up in the G2 marvel comic, and his colorscheme is just straight up ripped out of that one 2 toned panel they used as reference. Were other colors intended for these guys? maybe, possibly, but this is what we got and it's pretty cool looking as minty as. Color usage makes it look like it jumped right out of an old inked comic panel. What severely bugs me about this figure is the fact the robots in that shot had their alt modes visible, which were just Cyclonus and Blitzwing's altmodes. I'd have bought a 2 pack with both heads and those bodies, and they'd have been more scaled to the heads too! Instead we got a weird case of what just looks like a space dwarf in skeleton armor that's somehow the same height as normal people. As much as I hate the transformation I kinda want more of it so I can have a little squadron of squatty green skeleton guys, As shitty and tight as the rubberized plastic guns fit into things, the swappability of the bladed and non bladed cannons makes a really nice way to get some visual variety going if you have multiple of the figure. Surreal to me how it tool this fucking long for them to start making the cool looking background guys from the Marvel comics into actual figures, or just comic exclusive characters in general. I really wish I had more to say on this one other than "It's cool and the transformation is kinda ass" but I don't right now. Would reccomend getting him over skullgrin, but that's probably just because this is the one I got first and the striking nature of the colors. My Big articulation gripe with this one specifically is they set up the ball joint in a way where the head can only swivel and look down which is a fucking shame.

BOMBSHELL & KICKBACK
bombshell and chainsawman.JPG

Years ago I'd given up on the hope we'd have decently affordable g1 styled insecticons at the scale of other transformers, let alone ones that combine the Toy and G1 toon designs in a way that's really aesthetically pleasing. We technically have them now but 2 of the 3 are impossible to fucking find anywhere other than scalper listings for some reason. Kickbacks have been shelf-warming at any place by me that carries transformers since he came out last year or so. He looked fine but the legends scale engineering and the fake cockpit hinge bugged me enough I held off on getting him. Shrapnel I only ever saw once when I had no money for him, and then I found out the nightmare stories about his shoulder pad pincers turning fucking brown for some people and held off on trying to get him, though I never saw him again after that one time. I found a beat up Bombshell thrown on a shelf somewhere several weeks back and got him, only to later finally get kickback the day before Christmas in one of those discount 2 packs. I've got a surprising amount to say about these guys given their simplicity, both good and bad.

First, my gripes, and I'm starting off with the the aforementioned "fake cockpit" shit on both of them. Their insides are hollow, there's no reason for the designers to omit a feature there's space and sculpting for if you put a fucking PIN in the waist with a point that's clearly meant to hinge you don't just put a blobby facade of gunk behind it and lock it into place! The "feature removal creep" of modern transformers has gotten so ridiculous that at this point they're pulling out zero effort features for some reason and putting fake sculpting in of the features. Another good example of this is the upcoming $200 tidal wave remake where he has a shitty "base mode" added but can't do the base mode thing the original could because his one boat doesn't fold out into a boarding craft like the original. Despite this, there's fake hinges sculpted on the outer ridge of his legs seemingly to trick people into thinking he still has the feature. it's fucking retardedly evil because there's no production cost or durability factor here. Similarly cheap both figures continue the growing trend of "deluxe scaled heads can only swivel now despite having balljoints sometimes". If it's to prevent head theft, it doesn't fucking work. if it's to be cheap? fuck you. BOMBSHELL however has an actual reason for his head being locked to a swivel, and it's mainly due to his transformation and his weird little laser gun hat being tethered to the back of his neck. You can fully pull it down and expose his head if you want but it hinders articulation. My guess is it was done this way to make it so you could turn his head and the laser bomb hat thing would stay pointing in the same direction as his head. Another Bombshell specific issue is the flat yellow paint on the little armpits that get exposed more when he's in beetle mode. it's completely out of place, and in all stock imagery and product shots of him they're the same gold as the accents of the other 2 insecticons. My guess why they changed it last minute was due to Kickback having flat yellow antennae but as a result it looks out of place as hell whether it's by itself or next to the other insecticons, even kickback.

Now for the POSITIVES which are a lot more important with these.

Bombshell was the first guy i got so I've got a bit more to say about him. He's a retool of Shrapnel, not even his own figure, that'd be a gripe if not for the fact the two manage to somehow look extremely different sans their legs and arms. Speaking of the legs I know people that own the full set of these tend to swap out Shrapnel and Bombshell's legs due to "accuracy" reasons but I don't know if I'll do that if i manage to get all 3. I really like that the insect mode legs pop off his arms to give his gun more girth, it's a neat and pretty practical way to clear up kibble. Bombshell being a freaky robotic beetle makes the fact some of his "insect legs" are just blatantly gun barrels less obvious when in beast mode. Bombshell's the least "appearance specific accurate" of the group but the appearance he has is striking in a way I've been displaying him on the shelf in some kind of stoic or walking/gesturing stance when he's up there. genuinely one of the coolest Transformers related figures I've gotten this year. Mild issues and ridiculous laser hat aside he somehow manages to come across as a solid and kinda menacing presence. Would 100% recommend him as either a personal purchase or a gift for someone else.

Kickback is kinda solid yet flimsy feeling at the same time, kinda glad I held off on him but also very glad he stayed readily available till I decided to get him. His grasshopper mode is really weird and the legs don't even lock together like the original g1 figure so you end up with something like the legends class one from a few years ago engineering wise minus the cockpit being open-able. if you've transformed that one this one's basically identical in a way similar to how Earthrise Starscream is just Classics/universe" Starscream engineering wise. Unlike it's predecessor however, 2 massive energon swords are included that can either be put on the sides of his wings as weird cannons or put together and shoved uphis ass in Beast mode to become his thorax. They don't make the back legs more stable as they have nowhere to plug into but they do make them more "stable" in the sense you have something for the back legs to press against instead of each other. They don't have anywhere to go in robot mde, sadly. Thankfully, his gun has a place to go in both Beast and robot mode, something Bombshell unfortunately lacks with his beast mode unless you count only the insect arm barrels and not the silver part of the gun.

I gave kickback Tarantulas' little sawblade weapon for now because it seemed fitting for him to have it, especially with my Tarantulas suffering from loose arm joints. The heads on both these guys are really some masterful stuff in terms of capturing the character's vibes and I'm surprised they color match as well as they do given Hasbro's recent track record with that kind of thing (SEE: the 5 different shades of crimson guard "matched red" in Gi joe classified or the 4 different purples in Kingdom/Legacy Galvatron) Anyways, Kickback's great but kinda janky. Would recommend but preferably at some kind of discount or sale with how these things are creeping up to the $27 territory with their MSRP now. Fuck that noise.

For some reason these 5 specific figures left an incredibly strong impression on me. Dumb as hell, I know. Going to try to hold off getting transformers shit for a short bit while I get my current stuff obtained through this Christmas/discount combo thing thoroughly sorted and placed or stored somewhere till I clear shelf space to do the "cycling out diorama display" thing I've been planning for years but never got around to making.

Wife got me new clothes that fit better (old clothes are quite baggy on me now), and the kids got me some books I've wanted and hobby supplies. I rarely put down any form of action figure on my list unless it's a model kit like some form of Mech/ mecha or miniatures like Warhammer 40k. I got a bunch of new paints to try customizing with though and some extra fine markers to use for colouring in eyes. I also got some of those paint markers they use for Gundams to try out. Used the old black ones before to help with panel lines.

Some never-before-seen Transformers Prime concept art was leaked today. You can see all of them here, but I'll post my favourites here. The Ratchet in particular nicely combines the Bayverse version with a more bulky body.

I decided to get back into collecting and snatched up Studio Series Brawn for 20 dollars. Ngl hes pretty fucking cool.
Which one, the one from the bumblebee movie based on his concept art for that movie or the 86 one based on the animation model? Both seem like pretty neat figures though i think I only ever saw them stocked anywhere near me once. Studio series in general seems kinda weird with what they decide counts as part of it or some other line. The weirdest studio series figure IMO is the Thundercracker one that's not really based on any of his appearances and is just a retool of Nitro Zeus. Might've pointed that out whenever I got it a few years ago but I'm to lazy to check.

the wife got "Coronation Starscream" cheap on amazon and I'm trying to gently edge her away from modern transfan
;_;
send help and or money
if it ends up being from one of the batches that rapidly yellow and brown up for no reason then it'll probably dissuade her. Crazy to believe it's MSRP was like only 20-ish dollars less than the masterpiece was originally before they reissued it for $150 or whatever the fuck price it was for the one with the coronation gear. The OG masterpiece one is a better figure structurally in my opinion, weird QC jank aside. The newest Starscream that's just a re-release of the Earthrise one is like an upscaled bootleg of the classics one engineering wise so it's ok enough.

What's never gonna stop being weird to me with the Siege-Earthrise shit is is the fact Siege Starscream and Optimus both have explicit oddities in their mold design that hints they were meant to be retooled into earth modes later down the line. Instead we got an entirely new Optimus that used a gimped retooling of Siege Optimus' cool folding legs and a Starscream that was just infinitely less premium feeling at the same price as the Siege one. Despite that one not selling as well as the Siege Starscream, they went and re-released it with less paint in Studio series with the coronation gear and articulated hands (but still no wrists sadly). Weird choices all around, but nowhere near as weird as the choices of making every other main fucking character's remake figure an extremely limited Amazon/Target/Walmart/Convention exclusive the last few years. Feel bad for people that missed out on Siege Skywarp. He's not worth what the scalpers want for him, but he does something really cool the Earthrise one sadly doesn't with the colors where he's got a kind of dark grey body and black head helmet like the g1 cartoon, instead of being all black. All the figure would need is the purple shoulders the Earthrise one has and it'd be basically that color scheme.

I'm glad I got the Coronation Starscream from Ollies for like 12 or 15 dollars a few months back but there's no way I would have paid the $55 for it that's the current leader pricing, fuck that shit.
