Okay guys, I don't know if there's a thread on this already but I can't be bothered digging through 15 pages looking. The past two days, I've been binge playing this game called Town of Salem. It's free to play in the browser I believe but is also available on Steam.
Anyone else play this? Drop your usernames below so we can all get added up and play together sometime.
Town of Salem general too I guess so post whatever you feel. Favourite role, favourite things about the game.
I personally enjoy playing either Medium or Mafia. I also really love the last will and death notes.
I played this a bit after playing the Starcraft mod it's based on cause it's faster. It's fun but I kept using 2 computers and screwing up every round. Maybe I'll do that again tonight.

I like to play it every once in a while, although I hadn't really played it in ~2 years before I tried again on saturday
My favourite classes are SK and lookout

I love this game, about two years ago I couldn't stop playing for some reason. I've probably put well over a 100 hours into it and I have no idea how or why. I hadn't been that into a video game since I was a kid.
I could cure cancer and my life's crowning achievement would still be managing to kill literally everyone in the town as Jester, resulting in only me winning.
Good game. Only fun if you're with friends though because everyone else is a sped.
This was an OP that never took off so it's been moved to the Town of Salem thread.
Joshua Brittain (no relation to Craig Brittain) is a shitty Flash game "developer" who got popular stealing the format of the party game Mafia, who is now destroying his own game in an effort to defeat bots. He's currently losing very badly.
Don't fuck with Joshua Brittain
The Bots
It appears that the people who paid this lazy sack of shit have grown tired of waiting for him to get off his ass and fix the game they're paying for. So they've begun to have some fun with the corpse. The short version is that there are an army of bots that will join games, spam the chat and then leave. This has caused the game to be hit hard on Steam reviews, where it is currently sitting at Mixed rating. Yikes!
Josh in all of his wisdom began to panic the moment this happened. They started doing the dumbest things imaginable.
Chat Spam Ban - If users spammed the chat, it would ban them. Of course this ended up banning normal users rather than the bots.
IP Bans - Next they tried manually banning the users which would also give them an IP ban (something they claimed doesn't work). They banned hundreds upon hundreds of accounts but the bots persisted.
Rewrite the NetCode - Next the genius decided to "rewrite the network code" so that 3rd party clients and scripts didn't work. Immediately after the patch the bots persisted.
Apparently bots that are slightly more advanced than a basic AHK script defeat our boy Josh's programming skills. Basic email verification that every other website in the fucking world has is too difficult and "doesn't work." Instead it's obviously a group of Russian Trolls constantly cycling their IP and working around the clock to take down some shitty Flash game that barely works.
Captchas
So some time passes the bots are still running rampant in the game. It's time for Josh to step up to the plate and offer some real concrete solutions. And for once it's not a completely retarded idea! Captchas!
Except Josh has to fuck it all up.
Users will be given a captcha if they are reported three or more times for spamming. So naturally the bots have begun reporting everyone for spamming and all the users are forced to fill in these captchas.
Oh and the captchas can be avoided and the bots are still running rampant through the game.
Even if the captcha system did work, the bot owner could just write down all the answers because it's just a couple different questions. What a great system.
The second attempt was a lot more successful. They lowered the budget to make sure they got their shekels, as even the second attempt wouldn't have made the $20,000 budget.
7 months after the successful Kickstarter and launch of their game, BlankMediaGames came back to Kickstarter asking for more money yet again. This time for a Steam version, a mobile version and additional localization.
Some notable things about this Kickstarter in particular stick out. One is the fact that it has a stretch goal for a Playstation Network release if it reaches $100,000 and the campaign ended with $114,197.
Where's the PSN version, Josh?
The other thing is that this Kickstarter included a mobile release of the game.
It took them 2 years to release a tablet version of the game and a whopping 4 years for a phone version of the game to be released.
Rather than improving his game and fulfilling Kickstarter promises, he was instead promoting some shitty cards based on the game he made.
Now we arrive to the final Kickstarter that Josh and his team cooked up - an RPG card game based off of the Town of Salem IP.
This Kickstarter was far less successful than the Town of Salem card game, making just a tenth of the money.
Tormental (Rent-free)
Josh isn't a big fan of criticism whenever he fucks up and he has a tendency to lash out at anyone that criticizes him. One person that Josh particularly despises is a YouTuber called Tormental. It's a small gaming channel of just 13,000 subscribers that plays a variety of games. Tormental used to play Town of Salem quite a bit before getting tired of the game and began to criticize it.
This caused Josh to sperg out and ban Tormental.
Josh even did it personally.
And anyone who took Tormental's side was obviously just Tormental using a sock. No one can disagree with the great Josh.
That would seem like the end of it, but of course Josh simply can't stand that someone would criticize him. Two fucking years after Tormental had put out his criticism of the game and left for greener pastures, Josh is still very upset about it.
"Human garbage" is all you need to say to find some rent-free space in his head.
Criticism of Town of Salem
There is a lot of criticism of Town of Salem, but I thought I would include some big posts from a notorious troll MOONMAN who has posted very lengthy and insightful posts that Josh has ignored because they hurt his feelings.

Background info is nice, but so far, you haven't posted anything particularly humorous or dramatic, and we're two-thirds of the way through the thread.
I'm actually going to support this moving forward. I played Town of Salem briefly, thought it was a ton of fun, but the shit they do as a company is bafflingly incompetent and they've split their fucking userbase in half.
I'm kinda surprised nobody here posted about the data breach but since its private and the game is nearly dead from the developers' incompetence, maybe the breach will do more harm than good now.
Okay so the breach happened "supposedly" starting with the forum software (but I doubt it, and its more with their shitty backend), having 8 million of the logged users get their data exposed. The included data isn't something to say bingo since it doesn't include extremely sensitive information like credit cards. They were called days ago by Dehashed and nobody responded, so if all of the staff went MIA then nobody would be responsible for emergencies.
Okay yeah, storing your fucking passwords with MD5 is literally IQ 200 idea. Despite there's like documented php libraries such as blowfish/bcrypt everywhere.
Also it took them basically years just to send an e-mail to everyone, aaand...
Not only failed but also violated almost every common server management rule.
There's far more points to be proven but at this rate its very noticeable they can't fucking manage a game company in one piece.
Don't think he's so much a lolcow as he is just a shitty businessman failing at running what could've been something pretty decent. Bought the game on Steam, got the expansion and got a family member into it, but then I started having all the same problems other people had and quit. No regrets about that, I got my entertainment hours out of the cost many times over.
