  • The Southlands are full of factions, one more here might NOT be a priority either.
The Southlands thunderdome is probably not going to change considering they never bothered doing that to the Lustrian Rumble in the Jungle. That shit remained chaotic and just got more factions as it went on.

The fucking culture-war crowd. It might go very wrong for CA depending of HOW this new faction is implemented/redone/finished. If Arabia becomes too good and too clean it might leave a Political Correctness after-taste for many of us and if this is too grim-dark/edgy/grounded(based ?) like the rest of the human nations then this is the woke mob that GW and CA will have to deal with. I remember CA even said in the past that Arabia is a big no-no for them anyway(I dont have the link about it anymore, sorry :/)
Which is a shame because canonically they've got all the fun stuff like slaving despots, assassins... Would be nice to have an evil human faction that doesn't serve Chaos, but is just out for itself.

Why do I feel like they're going to do an Age of Sigmar next?
Also Chaos Dwarves?

Great fucking trailer I gotta say. Goose pimples! I love the voice actor for Franz in particular.

Feels like it alright, they'll probably milk it and we'll get tw:wh4:endTimes before they even touch AoS. I know the contract was only for 3, but they're all greedy fuckers so we're not getting end times as an expac.

I haven't played Troy or AoS or even watched any let's plays, but have a vague impression that both are more skirmishy/hero based than traditional total war or Warhammer gaming?

Chorfs are overdue. We really should have gotten them by now imo. Honestly thought we were getting them in 2 when they expanded into the dark lands to the east

I remember seeing some speculation in the Reddit thread where one of the devs came in to assuage concerns and play PRball that CA was waiting until after the usual end of financial quarter/investor meeting before making some announcements, so it's interesting to see the trailer and news of Immortal Empires being made available to everyone a week following that. No idea if it's true or anything, but interesting. I think moving IE over is a good decision, because god knows the campaign mode in 3 was lambasted to hell and back. People just want IE. Hopefully the big DLC release in April throws in chaos stunties and a big bunch of bugfixes/balance tweaks, since the most recent update wasn't all that much.

I only know the bare minimum about AoS, but this series (and Vermintide) got me into the Warhammer Fantasy IP and now I really enjoy it. I even found a couple of the Gotrek & Felix books at my library and read through them. So maybe a Total War: AoS would be a neat way to introduce people to that setting. I feel like going for 40k would be the more obvious financial slam-dunk, though it has its own issues of translating that into a Total War game. Hell, I'd like to see them go totally nuts and make Warhammer: Total Warrior, just to see what could happen. It would probably still do better than whatever shit Jackals is going to end up as.

Somewhat. The End Times basically nuked the Old World and Chaos won. AoS lends itself to being more abstract and fantastical, with there being multiple realms in which all the races fight across. There are continuations of old characters (Nagash, Archaon, Grimnir, Teclis, etc.), but the separation from its original structure is so great it might as well be an entirely different property. A lot of the new factions are expressive and interesting, but without some of what grounded Warhammer Fantasy in a more realistic conception, it's lost a little of the magic its predecessor had in my opinion.

And yeah, the army sizes in AoS are a lot smaller. Where any unit in WHF was minimum 20-30 models, some AoS units are 10 or less. Really doesn't give the same impression of armies.

didn't they get a rework in WH2?
They got some numbers tweaked and their tech tree updated to add the new capitals. I think they can also colonize anywhere now.

But they went from the most flavorful Chaos faction to the least. They should probably be brought up to the CoC standard

Yeah, they are planning on a pretty big rework, from what I've heard. People have been really dissatisfied with them for a while. Do they get no climate penalties in port cities? I think I heard something like that.

2 LLs, 1 generic lord choice, Norscan settlements are crap (and hard to defend for some fucking reason), no diversity in start positions or mechanics... just underwhelming, especially given that their Chaos God dedications are pretty vestigial after the Champions update.

Oh, I'm aware they're shit in terms of content, and the fact Khorne of all gods gives you artillery is hilarious.

Khorne does have the second-best arty in the regular Daemons/Warriors of Chaos roster so it's not too far out there? I guess he'll forgive ranged combat if it's awesome enough.

Something about the chaos arty irritates me no end, smacks of 80s GW faggotry. Driving around and pulling handbreak skids into units and shit.

I honestly have no expectations from this game with the current dev team.
It doesn't help that when new content is announced, I sometimes visit the steam and reddit forums (i should know better, but I still cling to hope) and the amount of corporate bootlicking is astounding. Literally makes me sick to my stomach.
I want to like this game, but it's just so meh.
Well, whatever. Hope for the best, but I expect disappointment in spades.
