I like the political tug of war mechanic with Kislev, but most of their units are just frustrating. It takes way too long before you can recruit anything besides obnoxious hybrid units.Cathay bores the shit out of me despite being a faction with literal were dragons as legendary lords. Kislev just feels like they didn't know what to do with them except the bear memes. The Warriors of Chaos DLC actually makes them a lot of fun which feels wild to me after so many years of being bland to the point of silliness. Mono God factions are okay enough but WOC playthroughs give you most of what you get from them.
I love me some Chorfs but I'm just cautious with how I'm feeling about CA. I don't approve of price increases and they've made shit DLC before. I've never bothered buying Beastmen because of it or the DLC involving them. Feed them too much and I can see them being worse than Paradox. They're already money grubbing with the idea of paying for blood spatter in a goddamn Warhammer game.I like the political tug of war mechanic with Kislev, but most of their units are just frustrating. Chorfs are an auto-buy for me. WFB was my GW game of choice as a kid, with my attention being split evenly between Skaven, Nurgle and Chaos Dwarfs.
The most hilarious lie of Warhammer 3 is that Karl Franz is an easy start position. Oh, oh no not at all with all the changes they made. Right off the top of my head Festus fucks over Hochland almost immediately with the inevitable results on your Imperial Authority from an electorate having fallen, and that's before he starts pissing and shitting corruption into Middenland and Talabecland, the former becoming increasingly easy prey for the Beastmen. Oh, and despite the Empire being in beyond dire straits you still need to tiptoe around the Elector Counts when things are the worst they've been since the time of Magnus of Nuln. You'd think the Elector Counts would be begging Karl Franz to let them swear their allegiance directly to him for salvation (well aside from Boris and Emmanuelle because that's how Middenheim and Nuln roll) but noooope.Currently in a H/H campaign as the Greasus Goldtooth, co-op buddy playing Karl Franz. It's been pretty interesting as I've had an easy campaign, I'm the bully of the mountains, whereas he's been getting attacked on every side all the time. He's snowballing now but he had to manually fight a lot of battles the AI would resolve as a defeat. I constantly remind him of the fact he had my Leadbelchers to back up him in the early battles. He enjoys hearing that.

Glad I picked this up. I never cared for Warhammer itself, but it's a blast in the Total War format and they sure know how to make a good hype trailer. Why do I feel like they're going to do an Age of Sigmar next?

I have WH3 but I won't play it until they add a Chaos invasion back into the campaign.
What really sucks is Eshin's new position is just as much of a thunderdome as anywhere else. At least from my experience if you don't stamp out the Cathayans (and there's a fuckload of them) they'll churn out assloads of troops. Skaven at least can match them in terms of spam. If you're playing Lokhir you gotta snipe them fast.I recently played as vampire coast and skaven. (clan eshin) i enjoyed coast alot more then i thought i would. Just setting up musket and gunners and see them mull units to bits before they can reach your lines felt so good.
Clan eshin is less fun. Sure, having a buch of ninja rats kit melee units was fun for awhile but gets boring fast. If a army is still alive when you run out of ammo, you pretty much fucked.
Still playing WH2 and the vortex mode. Still, good too know. What really sucks is Eshin's new position is just as much of a thunderdome as anywhere else. I'm trying to break my cycle of going between the same 3 or 4 races over and over (Empire, Tomb Kings, Skaven and Greenskins). So who's your favorite Legendary Lord and why?
I'm split between Grom and Settra. Grom's cauldron mechanic is a lot of fun and appeals to the part of me that likes to put as many buffs as possible on the crappiest units to see how far above their weight class they can hit. Settra is less about gameplay for me and more about the Tomb Kings being a really cool race and him just being a cool character.
I didn't spend much time with the Dark Elves in Warhammer 2 but all I've really heard about them in 3 is that the slave system has been ruined. How true is that and how much does it impact your enjoyment?Lokhir Fellheart is the GOAT. Starting with the Black Ark means that you can use that for recruitment while focusing on economics/ defense for your actual settlements. Build right and you can be pumping out late game armies quick. He's also a satisfying character on the battlefield too, and his items are impactful. It's fun to send him into an infantry melee and watch him answer the question "will it blend?"
Vampire Coast is one I really want to like because gunpowder focused armies are a thing of beauty when they work (which they rarely do in warhammer 3) but I think their unique campaign mechanics leave a little bit to be desired for me.I recently played as vampire coast and skaven. (clan eshin) i enjoyed coast alot more then i thought i would. Just setting up musket and gunners and see them mull units to bits before they can reach your lines felt so good.

Volkmar is great for all of these reasons and the fact he heavily boosts gunpowder units as much as he does. Being able to give all your gunpowder units magic and flaming ammo is incredibly fun.Had a really fun playthrough as Volkmar the Grim. Same Empire stuff you can enjoy but in a very different setting with a far more interesting overarching goal. Compared to trying to grapple with the elector system its a refreshing change. You beat down your enemies, make allies with those you think aren't heretical enough to deserve a cleansing. Seal books. Praise Sigmar, simple as.
I actually shelled out the money for the Chorf DLC and they're fantastic. A lot of fun, actually finished a full on campaign with them which I don't do all that often as it grinds to a halt. Their economic system is an interesting one. Gordoz Backstabba should've been an LL though. Don't give a shit what they say.
Tried to do a Grimgor run and goddamn the Chorfs used his bits as a speedbag. You will lose in a duel every time to Astragoth because the robo-cripple hits like a fucking train, is extremely tough, and has magic to boot. I've always leaned more towards Grom for a greenskin lord because his Goblin focus is fun. He does it far better than Skarsnik.
Slave system always felt mehish to me in 2 and as far as I know its just a really shallow system. You need slaves for just about anything, largely you just spend them on small buffs. Its nothing compared to the Chaos Dwarf system which actually has useful interaction. Despite the Delves lore saying they use their slaves to extract resources in the same fashion as the Chorfs they are just a slight economic boost and a currency.I didn't spend much time with the Dark Elves in Warhammer 2 but all I've really heard about them in 3 is that the slave system has been ruined. I think a lot of this is trying to reconcile the fluff with the tabletop armies: in the lore both the Delves and the Chorfs have slave economies so brutal and degrading they'd make Tariq Nasheed harder than diamond, but only the Chorfs actually field slave units.Slave system always felt mehish to me in 2 and as far as I know its just a really shallow system. Maybe they could make slaves produce something like fervor or magical power from keeping the blood cauldrons full and pleasing Khaine. Instead I mostly just spend them to give small settlement buffs.
Really the Delves and Lizardmen are both in dire need of reworks and a few unit buffs. Delf cold one units are still high cost for mediocre outcome. Rakarth's start in 3 is meh. Malus' is okay but surprise you don't get chaos immunity on any army but his so eat shit if you're still expanding in the wastes. Seconding Lokhir Felheart being great. Its tough and surrounded by enemies but you can make real bank by smash-and-grabbing Cathayan land. All you need is the ability to get them addicted to an opium equivalent to really master the experience.
