It's going to be insane if they pull an EA Battlefront 1 and just include the galactic civil war era when that was mostly guerrilla fighting and small scale operations compared to thr massive battle lines of the prequel era

I mean, the Creative Assembly of old would've had like three eras you could do, which in this case would be Prequel, OT, and Sequel most likely (it'd have to be sequel due to RatCo rights). The main issue is that there's not the most amount of factions you could choose out there necessarily unless you break apart the factions perhaps. And that runs into a lack of diverse unit rosters, which was a big issue with Pharaoh last I checked.

The biggest problem is they'd need to make something akin to Stellaris, or Galactic Civilization or some other space game to do a decent enough job at space fleet combat, and their engine isn't great at that. They'd need to make a three dimensional fighting space for those, unless they just cut that.

Empire at War gameplay with modern graphics and non shit land battles is perfectly fine

News for Slophammer 3:
  • Yapping for over half an hour about Nagash that won't even be available for 6 months during the 25TH ANNIVERSARY SHOWCASE OF YOUR FRANCHISE hosted by Fagmaster of Soytek
  • Yet another Archaon overhaul (SNCA)
  • More shitty pre-made battlemaps
Some maybe good things:
  • New game engine for future games, finally abandoning the garbage Warscape Engine that has been plaguing every Total War since Empire in 2009.
  • New battle and campaign AI for the new engine
  • MEDIEVAL 3 CONFIMRED IN EARLY PRE-PRODUCTION
Also, what the fuck:
  • Total War titles planned to also release on consoles

It's a mistake to announce M3 but at the same time people have been so apathetic about this franchise so they needed to do it. The new engine sounds good, but either the console version will suck ass or it's going to negatively impact the PC games. More WH3 DLC will only happen if Lords of the End Times sells well.

A different, new release will be shown at Dorito Pope's ballwashing game awards on December 11.

Okay so the question now is 40K or Star Wars after all ? No idea what other big media franchise could it be that would interest the normies watching the Game Awards.

Wow Med 3 and a dlc pack in the summer of next year. They really know how to get fans excited. And an announcement of an upcoming announcement thanks guys. Why did I ever get into this franchise? They showed us literally nothing in terms of gameplay it was a bunch of fat guys talking in circles and a couple token ugly women telling you to be excited. Kinda mati about this ngl

Medieval 3 will be the usual slop that we've come to expect from CA since they entered their Warhammer sell-out era.

Medieval 2 + mods can keep you occupied for a lifetime. Absolutely no need to buy this new dog muck.

Oh, also they used AI to write their announcement post: "This isn’t just a sequel; it’s the rebirth of historical Total War. " 🤢

Yeah... RTS games tend to not do well because of button mapping; this has been a problem for decades and it's a rare few that have ever made them sort of work. They are still inferior compared to the PC version. It's also pretty damn stupid to commit to this now when the consoles are going the way of the dodo.

And in any other circumstance, I'd be happy about a Medieval 3. The problem is that they've gotten lazy as fuck with how they do anything nowadays and they've cocked up other "historical" games due to being Slophammer brained.

Do they really want to go head-to-head with Dawn of War IV? Star Wars would have less competition.

TW Pharoah Dynasties was their best non-hero game yet. Though not many people played it due to non-game factors.

I would actually prefer if they never did anything historical again, the inclusion of female fighters in Rome 2 still pisses me off.

They will do the same revisionist bullshit in Medieval 2.

At the same time, I think they did rather well overall with Warhammer, and I personally adore Three Kingdoms.

A more phantastical Medieval centered around the great Knights of Arthurian, French and German Myth might be preferable and wouldn't trigger my autism.

Doing this in the three kingdoms style would probably be the best case scenario. However, I haven't looked, but I assume there will be a medieval 2 mod out there that meets some of these requirements.

On a related note, I feel that the Arthurian Legend theme is drastically under-represented in modern games. So much potential there that hasn't really been touched on in this medium for some reason.

I agree that Three Kingdoms was surprisingly good, but that got abandoned by CA really quickly. Didn't they cancel some major DLC and all updates for that game?

I doubt they will follow that sort of formula since they appeared to lose faith in it so quickly.

Ultimately, if they go with the more "realistic" style, then I see no reason not to just stick with Medieval 2.

There was a "plan" to extend the map northwards and include some of the nomadic raider from that region, probably an actual 3K start date and other stuff. Got canned because CA was doing complete bullshit with previous DLC and nobody bought it. Hence, why they stopped suddenly developing the game. Really shame since 3K was a big step forward in terms of mechanics and actually new stuff for the series.
