US musician Tom Petty has been rushed to hospital after being found unconscious following a suspected cardiac arrest.

Paramedics rushed to the singer's home in California on Sunday night after reports that he had been found unconscious and not breathing.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital in Santa Monica where he is reportedly on life support.

The 66-year-old has just finished a huge tour which wrapped at the Hollywood Bowl arena in Los Angeles last week, TMZ reported.

Better than "living" as a vegetable. I feel bad for whoever found him first and has to wonder now if they'd showed up a few minutes sooner. In reality, unless you go into cardiac arrest practically inside an ER, you're probably going to die or be brain-dead.

Cool riff, but it falls into the usual t.rap of Tom Petty's vocals absolutely sucking. Mary Jane's Last Dance is pretty much the only song that made his weak vocals sound ethereal instead of whiny. Breakdown sounds like a dude breaking down into his whiskey glass, and not in a good way.
