I still can't figure out what Todd's benchmarks for good music are. His number two on this list is one he hated when it first came out, but he has been gaslit so hard by Reddit and Twitter that he now loves it. Sometimes he bitches that pop music is too depressing and downtempo but half his list is exactly that. His number one is by an artist literally named "sombr" (all lower-case because of course it is).

In his defense it is not easy to find ten good pop songs in current year. I had never even heard of his number one but I think it's pretty good in a mopey mid-00's emo pop kind of way. The lyrics are cringe-inducing but Todd admits that. The Olivia Dean song is nice. Everything else is shit but for a Todd Top Ten list, two out of ten ain't bad.

Doesn't surprise me one lick that sombr is #1. I personally prefer this style of alt rock with more prominent guitars and grooves like Arctic Monkeys so I'm indifferent towards his music (and The 1975's).

Kinda disappointed he caved on Manchild. I think the initial reaction to the song was dumb but I soured on it and Sabrina's 'wink-wink, I know I'm the problem, guys, it's a joke!' schtick when deep cuts on the album showed her still being pissy when a man she's been treating like shit realizes the problem and maturely asks for some space.

I'm surprised he at least didn't like that BigXThaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman song off that mess of a country-rap album. Genuinely some of the most mature rapping I've heard on a break-up song ever.

And my favorite song of the bunch would probably be that Raye song. Manic yearning is a funny, melodramatic song topic which I will always enjoy. At least two of my country's widespread karaoke staples are about this and it's always fun to go apeshit singing them.

EDIT: Forgot to mention how astounded I am that no one cared about Kehlani being practically naked in that see-through suit on the Folded MV.

Todd will always say that he is a bad critic to account for his personal shortcomings and biases. Idk maybe he started turned on by a pop star in her mid 20s saying how pathetic he is.

Probably because Kehlani idenitifies as ~~non-binary~~ so it's somehow progressive. I didn't notice the nudity because I had the video playing in the background lol.
Really wish I could like the Olivia Dean song but it does nothing to me. Granted, that was the first time I heard it, in that video, so maybe listening to the full thing will do it some justice. Or not, who knows. It seems that so far in every decade of the 21st century we get a British R&B artist that everyone unanimously likes (2000s was Amy Winehouse, 2010s was Adele) and it looks like Olivia Dean arrived right on time. Maybe she'll be a grower for me, who knows, I don't listen to pop music religiously like he does.

And here’s the actual list.

Black guy in one of my online friend groups pointed out she's dating a girl so they'll let her get away with anything so it must be a combination of those two.

For my tastes, being that tasteful doesn't work if you're also as subdued/guarded as she is in her music unless you're a damn good songwriter who's gonna use your guardedness as part of the concept. If you're gonna sound that classy, you should either go for broke emotionally (kinda like what Raye did) or you take advantage of it like writing a song where it's obvious you're unravelling inside but your guardedness makes it impossible for you to be honest with yourself in a tragic kind of way.

I'm gonna get some stone heads for this, and I probably deserve them because I'm MATI over this, but when the hell in 2025 or EVER did people like Todd or others on his side "play nice" with MAGA? If anything, you cowered in fear because it became apparent that the normies who voted disproportionately for Trump were sick of your genderspecial bullshit. This is not the same thing when we're talking about a year where leftists literally murdered Charlie Kirk.

Never lmao. They've always hated conservatives. Always.

Saw this exchange on Twitter (it's a screencap of Todd in the Shadows shitposting on Reddit 'cause Jellyroll dared to thank Jesus for his Grammy win):

Edit: wait, that might have been from his subreddit/not him. Here's his thoughts on Jelly Roll's (or is it Rolls'?) win:

It brings me comfort to know Todd is always wrong about anything that isn't music and he has a maybe 40% success rate even at that.
