I feel like every fandom has this one. The older than average fan who writes countless of lenghty autistic essays about how "my otp will totally canon guys" analizing every detail,every line of dialogue,every "parallel",etc. It's not that deep, fam.

If they want to be :autism::autism::autism: so it be but they fill the heads of young,clueless fans with their bullshit and at the end they just end up heartbroken when it doesn't happen.

Homosexual representation in media isn´t that really hard to find in current year. I was watching some Netflix shows when the shitstorm happened and only one of them didn´t have homo.

Wasn't The Empty Hearse episode back when Sherlock died/came back and the bit where the one girl had a 'theory' where Sherlock and Moriarity actually made out (and promptly made fun of by in-universe conspiracy theorists for exactly what it was) specifically meant to mock this bullshit?

Legit, there were people on Tumblr back in around 2012/2013 proudly declaring they were sherlock fans and now knew how to murder people and make it look like an accident.
It was later turned into a meme, and briefly a copypasta.

But truth be told, given the people who would say it, and the shit that fandom's done, wouldn't put it past them. Mind you, there was also a LOT of overlap with the serial killer fandom at the time.
 
I'm reminded, almost 2 decades ago, of when the Pokemon cartoon show had a fucking hilarious episode where the parents of James (one of the reoccurring protagonists) fake dying in order to lure him off to marry him off to an absolute fucking psychopath. The episode is littered with comedy gold, including James vividly describing that he froze to death in the snow, resulting in everyone being sad until the second that Misty points out the obvious (which is that James is alive and telling the fucking story).

It's one of the rare examples of an episode that the makers didn't censor to hell, fuck up, etc. But there's a very specific reason this episode is a favorite: It establishes, without exception or embellishment, the fact that James and Jessie have romantic feelings for one another. The amount of Yaoi Fangirl shrieking at the time was fucking hilarious, with tons of idiots losing their shit because JAMES WAS OBVIOUSLY GAY YOU MORONS HOW DARE YOU DO THIS. There was a way to extort even more hilarity out of it, however, if you could find one of the grieving fangirls: Tell them the truth, which is that this marks pretty much the last time the pair appear in the Manga, and that it ends with the pair married. Their shipping was invalid before execution.

It's always nice seeing something like this getting shot to shit.

I've known about Grace and her crowd for a while, but I had no idea how bad it truly was... The whole thing with 221BCon was so fucking ridiculous, I couldn't make heads or tails of it, I just remember huge text walls going back and forth and all these bizarre rumors like Grace had roundhouse-kicked someone in the head and taken a shit on the convention floor.

I feel bad for ever following any of these people now. Like Jesus Christ, you're really gonna browbeat CSA survivors? I think it's a weird coping mechanism to write underage or non-con fanfic, too, but for a group of people that screech about letting people do whatever they want without being "kinkshamed", y'all sure are quick to, well, kinkshame.

Dude, I wish I'd known to screencap everything a few years ago, because this is like the fifth time I've remembered something relevant from 3-5 years back that I'd never be able to find evidence of now.

I distinctly remember a post written by someone claiming to work at a university, saying she would assign shit like that. Not saying I think it's your supervisor, it's just a weird coincidence, right? Maybe..? I just remember seeing it, thinking, "well that's probably bullshit, but if not, that's horrifying," and forgetting about it.

Sorry you're having to deal with that, though, must be tough having an actual Tumblrina for a PhD supervisor.

I always thought it could go either way, honestly. The shippers were, funnily enough, the reason I even checked out the show, because I knew it couldn't possibly be as overt as they claimed.
