Am an OSR player, can confirm. Most groups I know including my own aren't conservative or anything but its the stripped down nature of the game without all the endless nitpicking (autistic) builds that first drives them away. Another important element is that its old coded and as we know old = P r O b L e M a T i C.For some reason they think the OSR is right wing so it scares them off.
All you really need is “this game has a strong premise, your character has to fit within the genre conventions”. Character creation restrictions are their kryptonite.
But more than any of these world view coded things I actually think its the art style. They love pastel colors like the elderly and toddlers do. The OSR loved thick heavy-lined black and white art with a lot of black.
Additionally OSR games are quite lethal and you will be making replacement characters. Goes against the protagonist syndrome mindset.
