Just a reminder that if for any reason Windows becomes no longer an option for you and you’re forced to consider Linux, use Linux Mint. It’s got the lowest learning curve but doesn’t hide important shit behind layers of abstraction.

Linux Mint has so much bloat was well. TempleOS is a lightweight operating system which is truly free even offering the user access to ring 0. I would recommend installing it over windows 11 today.

why did it force me to set a password to install and why does it force me to use it? where is my fucking freedom?

and you can only disable it with the CMD command prompt??? legit unusable.

Gentoo is much better for a Windows replacement as it never gets in the way with gay shit like this.

The authentication system for logging into Linux is the same authentication system as remote access such as through ssh, if gentoo lets you skip a password that can be suboptimal. I did say it was the lowest learning curve, not that there was no learning curve.

Both Mint and Gentoo come with remote access disabled by default. Windows goes even further with security and also forbids connections to accounts that have blank passwords unless you edit stuff in the registry.

"[annoyance] exists because security" is a stupid argument, the average user will fuck everything up by giving random scripts root permissions no matter how many precautions you put in place.

Mint requires open-ssh server to be installed for remote, but after that it's enabled by default for all users.

I should also mention that the way sudo works, if any script or application can guess your password (for example if it was blank) they can be written to escalate privileges without your knowledge. Everything runs through sudo; even logging in, unlocking your computer, and installing apps and updates.

That is cool and all but why can't there be a solution like this? (and equally both the yes/no prompt on an administrator marked account instead of a password AND the lack of requiring a password at all? Just default to a specific setup if no password given that's how I would have it)

Security is good but forcing it is gay and making it so that I have to read a fucking manual written by some autistic sped to find out that I have to edit this specific file using weird specific keywords just to disable it is even gayer. This is like Vista on steroids except you somehow made it even worse by forcing only the password prompt instead of yes/no. BTW If you go "uhm but learning curve" you are a faggot and should be ashamed for being a faggot.

Generally you don’t disable it, and having Windows without a password (not even those password less setups attached to your email or phone) is as equally big of a security risk. The only thing not making it a security danger is because it’s such a stupid thing to do the odds of rogue software finding a vulnerable computer is so low there’s no point in checking usually.

Although, you do realize that the point is just to have a password, right? An easy to remember 6-8 character password is more then safe, and even a four digit numerical password would likely be fine. On windows your os password usually ends up being your Microsoft account password and so you need to have a really long one so that people can’t brute force their way in (mine is 30 characters long, for example). But on Linux the only things that have access to your password hashes already have root access, and anything that makes multiple attempts at guessing your password will face restrictions- sudo adds a two second delay after multiple password attempts, and OpenSSH will lock out after 6 failed attempts.

You could literally set your password to 9999 and be reasonably safe.

This is why root is a bad idea and nobody should use POSIX-based operating systems.

ok boomer
I ask "why can't we have something that doesn't require a password" and you give me this "uhm sweetie just use the password don't you know it's more safe and actually it's completely easy so why are you even talking about it?" shit like mate I don't care I don't want your 5000 roundabout reasons on why I should have the security (or any kind of) cock shoved down my throat stop it nigga and give me choice that doesn't require me to do things in an autistic manner, why is this so hard?

For the record, you ARE allowed to just say "it could/should be like that" without having to be autistic and try to vehemently defend shit UX you know ;).

if you want to be told "it should be like that" then use Ubuntu with Gnome and pretend everything is all hunky-dory. However I'm a Mint user so I'll do my best to explain the logic and you can make an informed decision.

Are you like retarded or something?

just changed all my system sounds to windows xp sounds. took all of 5 minutes for it to feel natural again
I've been rocking those for I don't know how long, but recently I discovered that in a pre-release build of Windows XP, all the system sounds were left in their original quality. 44.1kHz, and in stereo. They sound all wrong, but at the same time so right now that they're actually stereophonic.
