You forgot to mention they are still at least ten years behind on actually making the ships they sell into actual in-game vehicles yet.

People bought ships in 2010 that still don't exist as anything but JPEG files.

Don't worry the ship is now flight-ready but you can't fly it yet because it just went in for a detail pass and a revision.

The game packages are around $45, sometimes cheaper if you wait for certain yearly events.


Is it worth $45? I dunno. It's an OK time waster with friends in its current state, and I have a small friend group that I do enjoy fucking around in the game with, but there are so many better games on steam at that price point so I cannot recommend it to anyone else.


Whatever you do do not buy in based on things that they've "promised" are coming to the game. If a gameplay loop or feature isn't already here, it likely never will be. That's the mindset you have to have when dealing with a company like CIG that lies and moves goal posts as easily as most people breathe.

You forgot to mention there is basically no gameplay loop in the game yet, or that even getting to your ship to do anything is often impossible due to the bugs and glitches.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah I have not given them a dime. Paying for prerelease games or early access one have to be aware that it is like buying stocks.

Will buy game when it is finished and if Steam reviews say it is good.
 
Holy shit. I bought into the KS, I wonder if I ever got anything?

What can you actually do in the game? Can you fly around to millions of procedurally generated planets? Meeting interesting alien races? Nearly infinite quests to busy yourself with?

You can try to get to your ship and fuck around in space.

Emphasis on "try", as the engine is so beyond fucked that even getting out of your bunk to walk to the hangar is a crapshoot. And yes, you have to manually walk from your quarters to your ship before you can fly anywhere, and there are a hundred or so points of failure in that process.

Of the promised 100 star systems, there are three whole planets now, after 15 years. Of the alien races promised, none currently exist in the game, not even the ones they hired a linguist to create a language for. Of the 100+ ships they have sold to suckers, around 10 actually exist, because rather than finish what they haven't yet, they keep re-doing work on things they have finished.



The best way to be entertained by Star Citizen is to laugh at the morons who have paid in and somehow still believe in it. Watch the YouTube series Sunk Cost Galaxy for more background.

Actually, this is no longer true. They changed it awhile back to spawn in hangar by default if you didn't log out in a bed on one of your ships. A lot of the loading issues have been fixed or at least mitigated to where I can login, play for three or four hours, and logout with a reasonably likely chance of completing whatever task I set for myself.



I'm not defending the game or the devs, because after over a fucking decade the state of the game is inexcusable, but there are actual things to do these days. Recently they also added a bunch of different ground combat content and cargo mission gameplay is (mostly) working as of the latest patch. It's very much in a state where the only real fun to be had is made by you and whoever you're playing with though. Setting your own goals, etc.



My personal fun has been hunting players who fly the $2000 capital ships and killing them in my starter ship that I got free with a hard drive almost 8 years ago lol. Because there is nothing in this mess that should be remotely worth $2000.

Ah yes, ground combat, the most important element in any space sim, and clearly not the result of getting into a contract requiring the use of a shitty FPS engine to make a game it is not at all suited to!

The most innovative feature they have added to the game in the past 3 years is making you spawn in the hanger room the first time you load in your character... Unfortunately the hanger is not OSHA compliant and I died when the floor suddenly opened beneath me then the game impounded my ship for some reason fascinating indian engineering.

Anyways they finally added my medical ship and it sucks ass. There is no space for patients to sit, only two seats, and it could really do with a hanger to hold the ground ambulances. It's pretty much completely fucking useless in everyway imaginable and the designers put 0 thought into what it'd be used for. I would say that concludes my interest in the game for the next 5 years.
 
I've been playing SC on and off since April of 2023 during a free fly event going on, was curious and wanted to give it a shot despite its mountain of issues and controversies, and overall I enjoy it for what it is despite it's glaring issues and extreme mismanagement. Generally if the update is bad I'll lay off it and play Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky.
 
Reminder that No Man's Sky exists. it was a mess on release but after 9 years of FREE updates it is in a very good spot and with the last update, players are now able to build ships at their leisure, facsimiles of Star Citizen ones included.

Imagine spending a significant amount of your lifesavings on bullshit, then seeing others get the something much better at bargain prices.

I keep holding off on No Man's Sky because it always seems like they are going to add more and I want to buy the game when it is finished.

Can you tell me a bit more about the game? Are there plans to release more content? This ship building thing seems like a big addition.
