So I've been rewatching Season 1 of The Simpsons, and I'm amazed because its much better than I remembered it being.

The animation is very crude and there are obvious kinks that they are working out, but the genius writing and sly humor that would evolve into top form by the mid 90s was definitely there in that first season.

I remember hating some of the Season 1 episodes (Like Homer's Odyssey) but I thought much higher of them on the rewatch. Life on the Fast Lane in particular really impressed me with how funny and dramatic it was.
I'm glad you finally see the light! More people should appreciate what we had in Season One.

Season one had a reputation for being awkward, then again I got that opinion from the Nostalgia Critic and took him at his word, so I probably skipped over some gems on my rewatch.

I'm still pissed at that Tamara's Never Seen episode where she and her equally ignorant brother watched Simpsons season 1, declared that the show sucked, and then never watched it again.

I've gotta see this shit.

First thing out of the box is they criticized the animation, "I think there was only one person working on it."

They don't even know they're shittalking Klasky Csupo. Here's an example of the animation quality from season 1.

That's 100% unique frames, no animating on twos. These two internet reviewers are retards.

Yep, that video was dumb.

I mean K-C was working with AKOM, who at the time was infamous for their animation work on Marvel's shows like Transformers and Muppet Babies. And the show has had issues with them and the other Korean studios from time to time (like with When Flanders Failed being delayed to Season 3 despite feeling like a Season 2 episode because of animation issues with AKOM).

Not saying they're right (this is Channel Awesome we're talking here), but they're not entirely wrong about the animation looking sloppy and uneven.

In the end, I suppose I put myself in the perspective of someone who never saw a show like The Simpsons before, and that was something else when it first aired since we had nothing to compare it with. It blazed it's own trail.

Now imagine if they knew what Hassket looked like, would they backtrack on that remark? Or would they double down?

I doubt it. Mike Pondsmith is one of the darkest black men I've ever seen outside of Africa and that didn't stop sjws from calling him racist for working with CDPR on Cyberpunk2077.

The animation in Season 1 is, generally, pretty crude. That's true.

That one moment from The Babysitter Bandit episode was something I remembered and stood out to me because it was an exception, not the norm for season 1. That episode in particular has some of the worst animation of Season 1 (the episode was the first one produced, but the producers pushed it to the end of the season because they knew it was bad and wanted to put their best foot forward instead). Its a poorly animated episode, and then out of nowhere, we get this one moment of fluidity and expression.

Like it was said earlier in the thread, it was done by the same group that made Rugrats, so you can see the similarity. It's a thing of a world that's gone now. In an age of smartphones, "cancel culture", and terrible search engines, Western animation is all CGI now.
