According to rumors originating from Danny Elfman himself, The Simpsons is set to officially end next season.

Rating this optimistic for now simply because the Rat owns the show now, and they're rather notorious for beating dead horses.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney decides to save some money by letting the contract time out and then ending the show itself while continuing to mine the IP for movies, theme park attractions, and inevitable reboots.

All the more reason for Disney to reboot it. What I'm curious about is what happens to the Simpsons Land in Universal Studios?

I know they added a few extra things in the surrounding area, which I haven’t seen, but I know the Simpsons ride is worthless, I hate that they replaced Back To The Future with that garbage.

So nothing of value would be lost if they remove it, they need to bring back Back To the Future tbh.

To expound a bit, the ride is a simulator ride, which means you watch a movie on a screen while the vehicle tilts around.

With Back To The Future because the ride video was all models and puppets, ie things physically existing, it could kinda fool your brain into thinking you were actually moving through an environment instead of being stationary, the Simpsons on the other hand is just 3D CGI so there’s zero suspension of disbelief or immersion, you’re just sitting there watching a lame short film.

It’s similar to the older Hanna Barbera ride, which was a blend of 2D and 3D animation, I wasn’t too wild about that one either, but it was at least executed better than the Simpsons ride.

It all sounds very vague to me. A guy who isn’t involved with the show anymore saying that he thinks he heard it might be ending. I personally reckon they’ll keep it going until the main cast start to drop.

Hell, by now they’ve probably got enough audio to edit episodes together without the cast.

edit: also the main difference between family guy and post-golden age simpsons is that no matter how shitty family guy is, there's always at least one really good joke in family guy episodes

Honestly, this the biggest difference I can see between modern Family Guy and modern Simpsons(post season 10). While Family Guy isn't exactly that good and is really unoriginal, there's typically at a couple of really good jokes scattered here and there. You can't really say that about the modern day Simpsons.

It also helps that Family Guy's at least somewhat self aware.

Obviously every media deal is its own thing, but the Marvel deals for Uni (as far as I understand) allows for the park rights to remain where they are despite deals made after setting up the rides.
From what I've heard that's usually how stuff works.
There may be some eventual expiration date. Wouldn't be surprised if Theme Park Nerd circles have better grounded speculation.

I wish SNPP was still active.

I'm surprised a new group of people haven't come in and made new episode capsules. I used to love reading those as a kid back in the mid-2000's. Even after they stopped making new ones altogether, they were still popular for a little while after. I'm kind of surprised we never saw them finish the capsules for Season 13.

I think we could use a new group kind of like SNPP, now that we have the virtue of hindsight. Most of the SNPP Episode Capsules were current up to Season 12. I remember discovering Simpsons Archive in 2003-2004 and people were worried about the big hiatus. Then they came back to do capsules for Season 13, but then just stopped after a few episodes.

I'd love to see new Episode Capsules done. I'd basically make all new capsules for the first twelve seasons, now that we have the benefit of hindsight and also finish the rest of Season 13's capsules and then do Seasons 14-18 and the movie.

Anything after that would be a waste of time, unless you wanted to do capsules for "event episodes" like the Treehouse of Horror episodes or the crossovers with Family Guy and Futurama, or maybe the really egregiously bad post-movie episodes like Lisa Goes Gaga or That 90's Show.

Hell, I'm surprised the "Episode Capsule" concept didn't really take off outside of SNPP.
I remember seeing a few Futurama episode capsules back in the 2000's, but I don't think it caught on outside of that and I think a lot of those were done by some of the SNPP guys who also liked Futurama.
Rate me late if I am but looking at the Simpsons Archiveit looks there might be stuff up to Season 21? (the numbers for seasons 14 to 21 show up as working)
