Agreed. She's probably one of the last choices I'd have picked for any of Russi's roles to be quite honest. And if we're being doubly honest, I can't say I'm looking forward with hearing what her Sherri and Terri will sound like.
 
I’m not gonna lie; it’s kinda disappointing to see that they recast those parts. I guess I understand why they did it, but the fact that they retired Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace’s characters makes it look like they think less of Russi Taylor’s work. It’s not like Martin and the twins have been so prevalent as of late that people would have noticed their absence.
 
I thought the Simpsons just retired characters when their voice actors die? (I know there's the exception of Mr. Burns, who was originally voiced by the late Chris "Cobra Commander" Latta, but they replaced him with Harry Shearer after the first season, around 4 years before Chris Latta died.)

I guess now that we're in the Disney Fox era, they'll just re-cast going forward and replacing Russi Taylor with Grey DeLisle is the dry run for what happens when one of the five main actors (I'm including Harry Shearer as a "main") is unable to continue with their role, which seems like something that is going to start happening within the next couple of years.

I'm surprised they have an episode with the new actress for Martin Prince and Sherri and Terri so soon after Russi Taylor's death, I generally assumed they likely still had a few episodes in some stage of production where Russi Taylor had already recorded her parts before she died. just like how Lionel Hutz and I think also Troy McClure showed up a couple of times in Simpsons season 10, the first season to air after Phil Hartman's murder.

Might be they overdubbed those parts (which would be downright insulting), but it's entirely possible Russi never got around to recording those parts or the episodes themselves weren't put into production until just before she died.

I'm probably staking my bets it was one of the latter two in play here. Also, there's 6 main actors, not 5.

People don't always cleanly drop dead one day like on TV. Sadly, it's often a slow agonizing decline. So she might have been alive, but just too sick to record.

Yeah, Marge sounds horrible. She should be recast and they can keep Kavner around to voice Patty and Selma.
 
I'm worried about how Disney is going to handle The Simpsons.

As sad as Russi Taylor's passing is, I'm not quite as upset by Grey DeLisle replacing her for Martin Prince and Sherri and Terri. It'd be kind of awkward to retire the kid characters like they did with Krappabel and Hartman's characters, and it's not like Martin Prince or the twins are major characters, especially in the newer seasons.

It's actually not the first time they replaced the voice of an actor who died instead of retiring the character altogether like they did with Mrs. Krappabel or Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure.

Doris Grau was the original voice of Lunchlady Doris and she also had a few bit roles here and there in the early seasons but died around the time of Season 7.

Lunchlady Doris was a relatively minor character and was semi-retired for a few seasons, appearing as an extra but not having lines, but was eventually brought back and voiced by Tress MacNeille.

What I'm really worried about is how they're going to handle the deaths of the core cast members (Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Harry Shearer, Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, and Tress MacNeille) since Julie Kavner is elderly and rumored to be in poor health, while Harry Shearer and and Dan Castellaneta are also close to the same age group as Kavner.

Replacing Kavner is bad enough since she's the voice of Marge, but what if Dan Castellaneta or Harry Shearer died before they ended the show? Castellaneta is the voice of Homer Simpson, ostensibly the main character of the show and also voices a lot of other major characters as well, such as Grandpa Simpson and Groundskeeper Willie.

The majority of the most famous characters outside The Simpson family are voiced by Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria, so there would be a lot of roles to fill.

I know Disney won't do it, but they really should end the series after Season 32. Maybe they can do a second movie afterwards, but that really should be it.
 
So I just watched tonight's episode, it was mostly boring. Which fits, because the episode's plot is about Marge being boring until she starts chopping wood.

I mostly just watched the episode to see how Grey fared as Russi's characters. She didn't have much material to work with, and the twins speak simultaneously so that doesn't help. Her take on Martin sounds strained and during his second line, she dips into a voice more befitting of Tress. But I chalk it up to her just starting out as the characters.
 
My concern would be that a sound alike wouldn’t necessarily be as good of an actor as Kavner or Castellenaneta. Would it be a better option to cast someone who sounds slightly off, but can actually sell the performance? Jim Cummings sounds “off” compared to Sterling Holloway and Paul Winchell, but his performance carries Pooh and Tigger.
 
I'm late and gay as fuck, but I finally watched the new episode. Cliche drivel as usual. Marge thinks her life is boring, tries a new hobby, is good at that new hobby, Homer is fine with it until said hobby conflicts with him because Marge partners with a lesbian thus he's afraid of losing Marge, status quo, ending. Retarded episode as usual. This whole thing is a shittier version of Strong Arms of Ma, the advantage in terms of ranking going to that episode because that episode was good for 2/3 acts.

Some notes:

  • Marge's voice sounded better than usual. I reckon they are finally using a pitcher for her voice.
  • Delisle's Martin Prince sounds like shit.
  • Not a single laugh was to be had out of this episode.

0/10. Probably the worst episode of the season so far. Worst than the premiere. As usual AV Club gave it a B-, so I don't give a shit about linking it. A completely skippable episode with shitty jokes and structure.
 
I'm surprised it took almost exactly 30 years (well, over 30 years if you count the Tracey Ullman shorts) for the Simpsons to go to Portland, Oregon considering Matt Groening himself was born in Portland and was raised in the Portland area.
